So in spite of garbage time we give real credit to Mason for that but still not Fields, correct? :)

And you said I am slanted.

you are definitely slanted, I'm not sure why you are attached so tightly to a throw-a-way QB that's been here a couple months. On that play Taylor made a nice catch, I dont think that's a controversial take

How is this even still a discussion with three games worth of evidence saying one thing and none saying the other?

I was actually hopeful on Fields this offseason. I was never a hater that hangs onto my pre-draft analysis from 5 years ago in spite anyone in my way like some do. But I just have watched the Jets play this season and totally understand now why Fields had 2 other teams give up on him

when the Jets social media engine posts his stat line with "QB1 looking good" or whatever its infuriating...

Likewise, I understood why they were going with Fields. He’s not expensive, his contract was set so next season we could keep him cheap if he truly progressed and we can easily move on from him with little cap ramification. You hope that maybe after some time and a new scene the light would go on for him. If not he bridges us towards a much better QB crop than this last draft had to offer. The only alternative was keeping Rodgers but I don’t think Glenn really wanted that and took the opportunity to move on when Rodgers wasn’t clear and decisive on his response when asked if he was ready to play football this season. Whether it’s because Glenn didn’t want to wait or whether he didn’t want him at all, only Glenn really knows.

I actually agree with you, it was a great catch, That throw was not perfect but good enough, it was not a very easy throw to the opposite hash. The defense was just fine too, didn't look soft to me. The point is that just because this play came during garbage time does not mean it should be discounted, which is what people are saying about Fields' stats.

The line was actually not terrible in this game, especially in the first half given the competition. Fields just couldn't get rid of the ball. I did see Olu beat a few times though, he appears to the worst one of the bunch, which really sucks too.

Denver’s DL is one of the best…that being said, half those sacks shouldn’t have happened if we have a halfway decent QB…Fields made his OL look ass today

The line was fine today. They got beat a couple times (as expected) off the jump. They also gave him 5-6 seconds to throw a bunch of times. 5-6 seconds to throw is insane.

The tackles are taught to push the best edge rushers in the game as far outside as possible with the understanding that the QB needs to step up. Fields does the same thing Wilson does and retreats into pressure.

Absolutely. Still I am worried about Olu, he seemed to have allowed a couple of sacks where he did not even slow down slightly the opposing player. He sucked in the last game too. Others did better.

I don’t think the line played well. IMO it was their worst performance of the season but I still acknowledge many, if not most, the sacks were on Fields

Becht on the radio brought up a good point though. The Jets were too compact. All game with their TEs in and running back tight to the QB, it made it easier for Denver with Fields taking forever they were already in tight on him

the Jets should’ve spread way out and forced Denver to do so. At least that look could’ve given Fields a little more time organically and was perfect for a QB draw play

Eh fair enough. But everything you’re saying is that the game plan was terrible and put the line at a disadvantage before the play started no? So not really their fault.

Line was meh last year. Not great today but serviceable. It’s so hard to evaluate when I think you or me would’ve gotten the ball out faster than Fields today back there.

This. Fields' sacks all happen at the top of the drop. Step up in the freaking pocket!!! Give your tackles a chance to run the rusher past you.

I watched the Pats game today (because I'm masochistic that way) and there was this play where Chase Young came screaming off a wide setup against their rookie LT with no help. Two feet away from Maye, the tackle just steps in front of Young and nudges him to the left, Maye steps up in the pocket two feet, and poof! Pass rush neutralized. After this mornings carnage, I was so pissed.

Will Campbell is the real deal. But so are Fashanu and Membou.

For the first time in 15 years (since D’Brick and Woody) we have legit bookends and they’re both barely starting their careers. Both guys should anchor our offense for the next decade.

This is actually insane. We finally have a good line and we’re pissing it away on a guy that can’t play Qb at a pro level.
