We all knew this was coming because Woody knows nothing about football and can’t see the multitude of issues with this coaching staff even outside of the QB play…and honestly I can’t absolve AG of the QB play…this was HIS handpicked guy and his decision…he kicked Rodgers out the door and then chose this guy. There were other QB options. Shit, could’ve signed Darnold coming off a career year (though probably he’d have wanted no part of this team and rightfully so), could have signed Daniel Jones, could have signed Jacoby Brissett…but no, AG specifically chose Fields because he thought he could coach him up…so the abysmal QB play is 100% on AG. He doesn’t get a pass for that shit show we’ve been watching. All on him. Made your bed now you gotta lie in it.

"Could have signed" is a thing fans say. I said it in a thread a few weeks ago... when I worked at the NBA I somehow found myself in conversation with someone high in the front office of a pretty prominent organization. It was around the time that Twitter was emerging. We were talking about how they'd read it and laugh because fans were upset they didn't sign or trade for _____ when in reality there was never even a convo, they were told no or there was no interest from the other party.

No shit they could have done a million things better. That doesn't mean any of those things were possible. Why would ANYONE have wanted anything to do with this year of the Jets? There's a reason we ended up with Fields and note Jones, Brissett, Darnold, etc.

Agreed on that for sure…I’m sure if they were even to have reached out to Darnold I’m guessing he’d have said go fuck yourselves…but I also feel like you can never go wrong by making a call and sure a team like us would most likely have to overpay but sometimes you gotta try.

but it was the same when they hired AG…we didn’t even talk to any offensive coaches of note…and yes I heard how Ben Johnson wanted Chicago and he would likely have turned us down if we asked, I heard how Kingsbury said he wanted to stay in Washington, etc., but shit, at some point, you have to at least TRY. And who knows, maybe they did and got turned down so they didn’t make it public, but with the PR this team has and how bad we’ve been, I’d assume that they would have made it public that they tried.

    It’s just such a shit show…

I'm not sticking up for the organization by any means, but I fully understand going to a culture-setter when you've been the biggest joke in the league for a decade. It's not working, so hindsight is 20/20.

Yeah…my issue was the same as it’s been for multiple hires now.

No matter how Woody runs the search, whether he hires consultants or Korn Ferry or a GM whatever the mechanics are, he keeps hiring first time defensive guys, and we are in a passing league and our offenses have sucked balls for 2 decades now. And yes I know he can point to Gase as the one offensive guys but I give ZERO credit for that as EVERYONE knew he sucked ass … there was NO reason to rush and hire him as soon as the Dolphins fired him. Anyone could see he was terrible.

And it’s just so fucking frustrating that Woody keeps doing the same fucking thing over and over and over. Now we are going to have to endure yet another highly drafted QB who will need to be developed by a clueless defensive coach that has no clue how to do it…and worse still, this is the same coach who fucking HAND-PICKED Fields…a TERRIBLE QB.

Does anyone trust Mougey and AG to identify, draft, and develop the right QB?

    I know I sure don’t.

I get it and I've probably agreed most Sundays and one Thursday since the start of the season. But mid-week, I see things a lot clearer. Not that it's good, it's not by any means, but there is some logic there that I don't totally disagree with.

I said it in the Fields thread, but I have to assume that the decision was made to go with Fields and presented as "this might not work but we're gonna try because it's year one and a transition year". It failed, but I'm not convinced that anyone involved in the decision expected it to work to be quite honest. If he panned out, awesome, what a benefit that is. I dont think anyone thought he'd work out to the point of signing him to an extension beyond next year... he was always going to be a holdover guy until we drafted a QB. The contract lines up with that thinking as well.

I don't think Mougey and Glenn went oh fuck, Fields is available, we gotta go get him now, he's our guy. So in that sense, I don't NOT trust Mougey and Glenn to make the next QB pick. It definitely isn't a comfortable feeling right now but there's some reason to believe there's hope they don't blow it. For starters, Mougey had some hits in this draft. Membou, Taylor, Moore and lately Mauigoa have all been plus players. Mougey (probably with Glenn) identified Briggs as a dark horse kinda guy. Now that doesn't mean we ignore Arian Smith who could either be a disaster or a product of having a terrible QB, or Baron who by all means does not look like an NFL player. But it's not like this has been an Idzik draft.

And finally, I do actually believe in Engstrand. I think he's done some real good things and I think he's also done some baffling things that's a direct result of who is playing QB. We don't know what he can do in terms of developing a QB and calling an actual NFL style offense because he hasn't done it yet. But he's clearly a smart dude and has a grasp on the modern NFL offense. I really do hope we get to see Brady Cook because if he's even halfway decent, that will tell me something.

We're going about this the complete wrong way. You change the culture by winning. You win by out-scheming your opponent, especially on offense.

We're hiring both the wrong type of coach ("leader" vs. schemer) AND on the wrong side of the ball. That's how you go 10 years without a winning record and 15 without a playoff birth.

They paid him 30m guaranteed. There’s no “this might not work” for 30m friggin dollars. Stop making excuses for this FO and regime, it is exactly what it is. Incompetency, inexperience, and lack of leadership qualities.

Do you truly think Woody Johnson gives a shit about $30 million? They weren't signing anyone else, they had no QB, they weren't going to draft one. I think he fuckin stinks and I didn't like the signing but Fields made sense in many ways. Like I said in my post above I'm not sticking up for the organization but it's not hard to see the logic. Whether or not that was the case is unknown.

So, after reading the one ESPN article, it would 100% appear Glenn is here. So, having digested that stark realization, why bother with this thread. I guess, for 2025, I'll sit back and wait for them to fuck up the 2026 draft. This season is O-V-E-R...

They weren’t signing anyone else? That had a guy here already, and we’re counting 14m against the cap this year and 35m against the cap next year for that guy. We were gaslighted into believing that we didn’t want to wait for him to decide when the truth was Glenn couldn’t handle a bigger personality in his locker room. Between Fields and Rodgers wer’e looking at 79m of wasted money. Bullshit. They had plenty of options.

30m guaranteed is not what it used to be. Kinlaw who was a rotational D-lineman for us last season got 30m from Washington this very offseason. So we swapped Kinlaw for Fields. It is not impactful

You are correct, as fans we don’t always think about whether a player wants to sign with Jets. players have a choice and coming to Jets is not high on their list of teams to play for. That being said, Glenn chose to kick Rodgers to the curb and I feel it was because Glenn has a big ego and didn’t want to be upstaged by Rodgers.

Glenn needs to be held accountable for that decision because of him Fields is our starting QB and is the primary reason we suck. I believe Glenn is not as honorable as he wants to portray himself as either, he will be throwing people under the bus sooner than later.

Unfortunately another year Jets will suck.

Listen to Woody speaking yesterday. People that stupid and ignorant attract people with predacious intent. Period. Korn Ferry, 33rd Team, Casserly…. They all see blood in the water when Woody comes calling because they know Woody is far too stupid to know better. Period. Woody is akin to a widowed old man at the bodega buying gift cards because some guy with an indian accent on the phone is telling him his accounts have been hacked. “Sir you must do the needful immediately and hire another Defensive Coordinator to be a 1st time HC or you will go to jail immediate!! Policeman is coming!”
