I no longer trust this regime to do any trading, moves, etc... I think letting this current staff pick our next QB, talent, roster.. Scary after what I've seen so far. I'd love for this EPIC Lions turn around, but this looks nothing like that to me. Meh. Can we trade the owner for, well, anything. A bag of shit would be enough?
A bag of shit? Are you kidding me? That's worth a LOT more than our putrid stain of an owner. Fuck, you couldn't give that asshole away, let alone trade him!
Yesterday helped a ton, but I'm realizing I strongly feel that I want Breece here this year and into next season. What a difference to give a rookie QB a legitimate backfield stable like this would be with a dynamic player like Breece, Isaiah Davis and even Braelon Allen. Let's put the next rookie QB into as good a situation as possible. If you lose Breece, who is not a dime a dozen RB, you also need to replace him. The OL is actually ok. I want the only focus to be QB and then WR2 and WR3. I've seen enough of this team giving rookie QBs being given lousy skill players and OL
The problem with Breece is that you either lose him or have to overpay him. He is absolutely not the kinda guy that's gonna take a hometown discount on the biggest contract he'll ever sign and we aren't in a position to be paying an RB right now. I guess you keep him and hope you can iron something out, and if not you still end up with a 5th round pick but 2027 instead of 2026? I dunno, tricky situation and I get both sides.
I'll be furious if they trade breece hall especially for a garbage offer the guy can do it all, lets use him like they did yesterday for once
I’m fine if they want to overpay Breece but I wonder if he doesn’t even negotiate with the Jets and heads straight to free agency. That would be the reason you trade him, not because you don’t want to overpay.
I guess it depends on the structure. And honestly now that I'm looking at RB salaries, he's absolutely going to think he belongs in the $15 mil a year range. He doesn't but someone will give it to him. I dunno I just can't see this front office in the early stages of a rebuild paying an RB top 5 money. Now if we use him the way we did yesterday, obviously he's gonna be worth that kinda money but how much of that was a terrible opponent? The ole DJ Reed. I could see it.
Considering he did the same thing against Pittsburgh and Dallas already this year, and Buffalo, Indy and Tennesee last year, and Buffalo, Denver and NE the year before... yada yada I think he's just a very good running back who should be given the ball 25 or more times a game
Transition tag for a RB is projected 11 mil next year. He is worth at least that much. Instead of taking a lousy 5th round pick for a star player, just tag him for 11 mil. We can then match ANY offer and he has to say here. That's all there is to it. There is also franchise tag, which is 14 mil. Then no one else effectively can even negotiate with him. The point is: we do not have to give up a star player for next to nothing because we are afraid to lose him for nothing at all. We have control over him as long as we think he is worth 11-14 mil, which I think he does. There is no need to get pennies on the dollar now. Keep good players you can control. Breece is one of them. https://overthecap.com/franchise-transition-and-rfa-tenders
Exactly. Finally Tanner remembered that Breece can actually play. We don't win this game with Allen and Davis, we just don't. This year may be gone, but this team needs to win next year - and we need more guys like Breece, not less. We have control over Breece via tags. There is a good chance we can keep him. There is just no need to get some crappy pick then use it to get someone worse. I would be a seller on guys whom we are going to lose next year. Maybe MC2, Lazard - if anyone is willing to give 7th round pick or a 6/7 swap. Quincy maybe, since though he is a good player, but older and we just paid Sherwood, so chances are he is gone. But not for anyone we can keep next year, like Hall, Jermaine, and Q. At least not for what we will likely be offered for them.
And why should he? He's taken nothing but abuse from the team, the coaches and, ESPECIALLY, the fans. Hell, the fans have been total shit to this guy. Every time his name comes up it's always about some trade, or he isn't doing enough, or he doesn't have the right attitude. On and on and on... So why in the flying ass would you expect him to take a "hometown discount?" Personally, seeing as he's, what, 65% of the offense, maybe he should be making 65% of the $ allotted to the offense. I don't care what people say, he IS a top 5 running back. Period. It's not what he's compared to around the league. It's what he IS to the NY Jets. And, what that "is" equals a crap ton of the offense. Pay the man.
Pay him, that's what. Just blows my mind. It's not like the guy is on year 8 or 9. He's on year FOUR!! I'd give him closer to $20 if he asked.
Breece tells the franchise he’ll never play for them again, holds out and no team will “match” because they know the Jets are just going to rescind the tag and make him a UFA. What then? You really love the transition tag lol. We’ve had this debate a hundred times so I’m not going to have it again. But teams clearly don’t like using it.
I don’t know about Quincy…he was pretty active this game you could tell he was back after missing a few games…I think he’s still a pretty good player that should be kept let’s worry about filling holes like QB, WR, DE and CB (probably in that order) before we get so eager to create more holes
Teams don't like transition tag because it allows the guys to negotiate with everyone, which can drive up the price. It is still used but rarely, but this last offseason Patriots actually used it. But it's fine, we can use franchise tag on him too. The point is that it is FAR from certain that Breece will be gone next year. More likely than not we can keep him if we want. That is worth not getting a lowly 5th round pick now. 5th rounder is not a big enough bird at hand to completely take a likely scenario of keeping Breece off the table. That trade would only make sense if he was DEFINITILY leaving, and as I showed we do not have to lose him at all and still have control of him via tags.
I am OK not trading him too. Just that for me, it is all about next season, and unlike Breece I do not see a way to keep Quincy. He is not worth a tag, and after we just paid Sherwood, are we going to pay him too? He is also turning 30 next year. So, the way I see it, the hole will still be there next year, might as well get something to try to fill it. But if Mooge thinks there is a chance he can be back on a smaller deal, sure I don't mind keeping him. As far as holes, we will probably need to spend 1st round pick on a QB and #2 on a WR, and maybe trade up at some point to get a DE plus look in FA market. As far as CB though, I like the way Stephens looked after 1st couple of games, I do not see much difference from Reed, who btw has been on IR since week 4. AZ Thomas also looks decent. Yes he gave up that TD, but overall played pretty well. Plus we got Brownlee too, who looks to be a steal for what we paid for him. So, CB may not be a big issue, we could bring back the same guys for the next season.
Michael Carter could be traded(teams might not want his contract though) due to the rise of Jarvis Brownlee.
