Yeah, people may think he’s only worth 2 firsts, but there’s no reality where CIN trades him for that.
I've heard this for years about the Jets being just a QB off. While I'm not going to say that they are one player away from great, they are actually not in bad shape to bring in a young guy. - The offensive line is young and decent, although there is potential to improve - Garret Wilson keeps defenders on their heals - Breece Hall is a multi threat running back - Mason Taylor is developing into a good security blanket, could evolve into that critical 3rd down threat. - The depth isn't bad The offense very much reminds me of what Mark Sanchez inherited in 2009, and they basically carried him that year. They did have a much better oline and didn't have a Wilson caliber WR, however.
I want Mason Taylor to be the next Kelce or Gates or Winslow. I want a guy that is basically a #1 WR in a TE body.
Pretty tough to watch Burrow absolutely dealing tonight against an elite defense (over the past two months) and say you don’t want him on the Jets..
Come on, man. We all know the script, 3 x #1s maybe more, huge contract and 3 plays into his Jets career, his Achilles pops, we've seen this film before.
We could have drafted Ty Warren and filled the OT spot with Ersery in the 2nd round, who has been the starting LT for HOU all year. It’s hard to evaluate Taylor with Fields and Tyrod at QB, but I think it’s fair to say Warren is a markedly better TE than Taylor. The question is whether Membou is that much better than Ersery. I don’t criticize Mougey too much because he’s done a very good job, but I think he made a mistake taking Membou over Tyler Warren.
I would trade 3 1sts for him in a heartbeat, but there’s no chance CIN is trading him. They’d be nuts. That said, I think we need to look at a guy like Mac Jones and draft a QB next year. Mac can start while the rookie develops.
It’s another case of fans inventing a scenario then getting mad when it doesn’t happen. Theres no indication whatsoever that this is a possibility.
Of course I want him on the Jets. I don’t want to give up three first round picks, two of them probably being in the top 10, to have him on the Jets and then pay him a massive amount to be here and then pray he can stay healthy which he never does. Feels like a recipe for a SOJ disaster
Give me the All Pro caliber tackle every time. Mason Taylor is going to be a monster, our QB situation is holding him back. Be patient.
I was beating the Warren over Membou drum HARD through all of draft season and even I have to admit we did it correctly. Membou is already playing at an all-pro level and Taylor has shown a lot in all facets of playing TE. Will he be Warren? Probably not. But I wouldn’t be shocked if he becomes something close with an actual QB in an actual offense. If we ever have either of those things.
Something we agree on lol, Membou has been a monster this year and having book end tackles just gives me the warm and fuzzies over an upgrade at TE.
It's been two months since the season has been effectively over for the Jets and we are now officially into fantasy territory. And since we are there... CJ Stroud is due for a contract, and Houston dealt Watson before, maybe we get him? Mahomes lost yesterday and may not make play-offs, perhaps KC can move on, what do you say we kick the tires on that one? It's tough when the season ends 3 weeks after it begins, but I think our best bet is still to draft one. None is trading a star QB to us I am afraid.
Taylor is 2 years younger than Warren and got no ops in the passing game. I would say it is way too early to judge. Now, of course at this stage Warren is better, but Taylor so far is catching pretty much everything thrown his way, a lot of contested catches too. And he has become a good blocker. If we get a good QB next year the gap between the two may not be as big. As far Membou vs Ersery, Membou has been great and he is 2 years younger than Ersery. I haven't studied Ersery play specifically, but Houston offense is not that good, they are winning with defense. Yes, he is starting, but is he playing well? According to PFF he sucks, but again I haven't focused on him myself. Think of it this way though, if WE had Warren/Ersery, I think Warren does not get the ops, and he is not known to be a good run blocker. Ersery also does not help running game as much as Membou. We allowed 4th most sacks in the NFL in spite of Membou being a very good pass protector, better than Ersery. I think for sure things would look a lot worse for us this season had we gone with Warren/Ersery combo. Membou/Taylor are definitely better picks short term, and I think chances are we will see in the next year or two that they are also better long term.
I don’t disagree necessarily, just offering counterpoint. Warren was a huge weapon in the Wildcat at PSU. I think we would have used him alot in that regard. Ersery is struggling as I’d expect for a 2nd round starting LT. I think he’d be better off on the right side though I fully admit he’s no Membou. I watch alot of Ersery because I was very vocal leading up to the draft regarding taking Warren and targeting an OT like Ersery in the 2nd round. Ersery is gonna be one of those guys you never really hear much about, but suddenly realize he’s been a starter in the league for 10+ years. Taylor doesn’t strike me as an imposing TE. He’s nice, he reminds me Dustin Keller, but I like TE’s with attitude, guys that punish the defender trying to take him down.
Fair points. We will have to see how it works out going forward. Left or right tackle now days does not matter much. But ... We are conceding so many sacks in spite of stellar Membou play. And we are mostly a running team. I just don't see how having a downgrade in protection and opening up running lanes (frankly from both OT and TE since Taylor blocked well) would have helped us, even with a better pass catching TE or with a few wildcat plays. We are not even utilizing the best weapons we have already. Breece hasn't received a single screen pass in the 1st half last week, even though he was the only offense in the game before and his screen pass then was ALL the passing offense we had. Right now I am happy with the package we ended up with, and there is more potential to improve since each of our guys is two years younger than in the alternative scenario.
I respect the overall viewpoint but the reasoning doesn’t make sense to me. If you’re running that much wild cat or reliant on it as anything more than a short yardage package, your offense probably sucks and the player isn’t helping. Warren has been very good though and is very aggressive at initiating contact in the open field. He brings an attitude to the Colts and has very much proven me wrong.
