Thinking about this some more, would a good DC even want to come here knowing this could be one and done? Glenn is already on a hot seat. We will probably have slim pickings after all good candidates go elsewhere. Does Glenn even have connections to bring in someone good? And we need more than just a DC. The defense was so bad relative to explication, we need most of the new staff. I sure hope LB coach is not coming back for example. And even on offense, QB coach is a joke. Does Glenn have the pull to bring someone good? If Woody bothers to think about these things, there is only one right answer: fire Glenn now. But as you know thinking is overrated.
This is the crux of the issue, who the hell is Glenn getting to come here when it seems very likely the entire regime is out after next year. Going into a year with Glenn and all the uncertainty regarding his future will make it extremely difficult to bring coaches and players here, not to mention the desperation will lead to desperate measures in the draft and FA to try and save his ass.
In Detroit Campbell couldn't get anyone, he promoted Ben Johnson who turned out to be a star. Plus it looks like Campbell could call the plays himself. Glenn can do that too, but again, he was not that good as a DC in Detroit. 1 out of 4 years was good. And even in that one year they lost in the 1st round because of defense - gave up 45 to the Commanders. I have my doubts whether the current interim DC is like Ben Johnson on defense. And even offense needs turnover too. It's just a mess, and I think we are fucked for 2026 to be honest if we keep Glenn.
We see good coaches turn teams around in one year every year and yet we always do this excuses thing with our own coaches. Just baffling.
The sad thing is Woody is probably being fed optimism from the 33rd team. I hear Tannenbaum has been optimistic and pushing hopium this whole year on the radio. I don't blame them trying to protect their recommendation but they would be better off just admitting they got it wrong and tell Woody to move on.
Them admitting something like that to Woody would just add more gasoline to the fire. Their hand picked FO/CS just threw away $40M of his cash on a failed QB proposition. Now you want to tell the guy who signs the checks that you also fckd up the FO/CS hire too?
Glenn is delusional if he really believes the BS he espouses in his pressers about how the players played hard.... Really, they can not tackle for God sake... he must think we are all fools. I thought the last few stiffs were bad but his arrogrant ass takes the cake. What is really surprising to me is that he is not humbled at all by this teams record and fertility. Like I said he is delusional...
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47390702/aaron-glenn-asks-jets-fans-patience-says-plan Latest Glenn garbage, how can you sell the fans that it's going to take a long time to rebuild when the team has gone backwards in almost every single statistical category? How can you sell a long rebuild when 3 rookie coaches have double digit wins this year. A young QB makes a difference, not a 10 win difference, that's coaching.
Are we sure that Bill Parcells is really Glenns mentor and they talk or did he just say that to get the job? He sure does not act like him and spews bs. 1st thing Bill Parcells did when he came here is go get a veteran qb who can throw the ball, Aaron Glenn ran his out of town, guy simply is way over his head and just a defensive coordinator(and not a good one obviously), and Woody is to dumb to see this.
That brings up an interesting point. We basically wasted 30 mil on Fields. It's a lot, and yes an overpay, but still, starting QBs make a lot of money and we gave it a shot. What's 40 mil burned on a coach? Coach is the most critical part of the whole puzzle. 40 mil for Woody especially given QB and other salaries and how much he is making off this team, is like $400 for us, maybe even less. Sure it's not great to give up, but to drastically improve chances of getting a good coach well worth it.
To be quite frank, I'm thoroughly DONE talking about it. The ENTIRE organization has gotten SO bad that luring competent coaching is a dead stick. Chris "what's his bucket" better turn out to be a decent DC over the next 2 games because that dude is the ONLY guy they are going to get to stay, if for only reason because he's already under contract. Personally, I think any other names floated are the result of smokin' too much skunk weed. ALL of you know they aren't bringing in some whiz bang DC to turn that shit show around. Hell, I don't care if they DID fire Glenn, TODAY, they are not, let me repeat that for the cheap seats, NOT going to be luring anyone here who is ASCENDING! The only people who are willing to come to this complete and utter shit show are 1st timers with questionable skills (Glenn) and has beens who are trying to reclaim some of their former glory but have been fired multiple times (McCarthy). A dude like Kingsbury would need $30 million a year + the enticement of all this draft capital. Why? Because once he comes to this team and fails colossally, as would be expected because it's exactly what happens every single time, he can sit back with his $30mill per year and spend the necessary time for the stench of the NY Jets to dissipate from his person so that, maybe, he might coach once again...one day. Folks, it's that bad. Of course, I don't need to tell any of you that. We're all living it. However, I'd like that to sink in to some of our more delusional/positive posters who haven't resigned themselves to the current state of the Woody Johnson owned NY Jets.
It's not hyperbole to say this could be the worst Jets team ever. We're tied with the 2020 Gase team for 2nd worst simple rating system (margin of victory + strength of schedule) in our history, and that team had a less talented roster. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/#all_team_index
Statistically this is the worst Jets team in history. Worst start to a season by a coach in Jets history, tied for most ever losses in a season with Kotite and Gase. This team is epically bad. We are breaking records and setting new levels of ineptitude across the board, we are more of a laughing stock then we have ever been, that's our new culture? That's the foundation (built on marshmallow fluff) for our future? Disgusting
Yeah, add to that we're now breaking NFL records you want no part of either. By the end of this season the defense, headed by a defensive minded head coach, will have generated the fewest turnovers in history. NO team has ever gone an entire season without 1 interception but that's what it looks like is going to happen. Two teams have gone winless in NFL history and haven't had the statistical ineptitude of this team. THAT is saying something.
In the 7 years after Manning retired the Broncos had one winning season (and even that was 9-7) and had 6 consecutive losing seasons before going 5-12 in 2022 - they then bring in Payton and they go 8-9; 10-7 and are now 12-3 and they managed to do that without a good QB - why can we never bring in someone like that?
