This is speculation but we there have been rumors of us and the lions looking at trades and Vilmas name coming up. My question is, what would you think about this trade?

MLB Jonathon Vilma for DT Shaun Rodgers

Rodgers could man the NT spot for years to come with DROB at DE and subbing at NT when Coleman comes in or subs for Ellis. Move Hobson over and bring in an OLB that fits better there (bowens? 1st rounder? - perhaps a Jarvis Moss, etc you) There are a plethora of athletic tweeners in this years draft.

IMO that would be a great trade for both teams. Rodgers isnt he kind of penetrating DT that marinelli wants and Vilma fits the cover 2 perfectly. It would really be less about "getting rid" of Vilma than being fair to him and letting him go to a team where he can excel in his career. (which a player of his caliber deserves).

On our end, our front 7 becomes beastly. Ellis/Coleman - Rodgers - DRob is a HUGE front 3 to compliment our stout ILB's (barton and hobson are both around 250 lbs) and two athletic passrushing LB's on the outside (provided we invest in a OLB on the other side of BT).

I'm not saying it would be easy to trade a player like vilma but we have to recognize that it may be a possibility and may have to be done to get us to that next level if we are committed to this system.

Through in Marc Columbo, a CB and OG with our 2nd round picks and I'd call that a pretty nice offseason.

wasnt he suspended for drugs last season? if so, wouldnt that bring down his trade value(because he could be supended for half the season)

either way, calm down with the vilma talk, he will be allright. and then when ne is a frre agent and leaves, because the fans in ny dont want him, we will all be pissed. Anyone who has played football knows, Once a player always a player. He's gonna come back next year with a passion with a chip on his shpi;der.

Why stop at the 2nd pick? Why not get the next infant born to a Lion, and Prima Nocta with one of their future wives?

You realize how much money would be in THREE guys on the D-line then?

I actually think Vilma for Rogers would be amazing for us, but he was injured, and I'm not sure what happened to him. It is so much harder to fill the NT spot than a LB, and the D Line is CRUCIAL for a 3-4.

Vilma ain't going anywhere... Tangini's getting all kinds of help to surround Vilma watch and see when the draft comes all kinds of defensive help coming

I'd say give up one of the second rounders for Rodgers. The guy was hurt last season and trading Vilma for him would be the equivalent of trading a top 15 pick for the guy, which we couldn't get for Abe last year when he was injured but with more of a history and experience than Rodgers has.

Why would Marinelli give him up? Sure Marinelli would love a young LB...But he has an integral part of the Tampa-2 with the DT in Pro-Bowler Shaun Rogers...

His size and speed for his size is a wonderful combo...Not really smart to give him up.

im not for trading vilma at all but lets be realistic if michael turner a back up can demand a 1st and 3rd round for him then dam sure vilma can get 2 first rounders or first and second for sure.

he is the best player on our defense by far

While Vilma is my favorite player...He isn't the best player on the defense "by far."

That reward goes to Kerry Rhodes...In a 4-3, Vilma would be our best defensive player...Now a below-average season in the 3-4, while Rhodes flourished, should of been in the Pro-Bowl, to me makes Rhodes the Jets best defensive player...

But it's a good problem to have...Arguing that, and it's cool that both watch hours of film together...Vilma really lured Rhodes in on film watching and Rhodes made the right decision there...

Did Vilma do something for you guys to want to trade him? Does he run over your pets or shit on your lawns? Why do you want to trade our defensive leader for anything at all especially Shaun Rodgers who is old? Explain this to me

as i originally posted, it isnt about feelings for vilma. I dont think anyone would argue he is a great player, a true leader and hard worker who is extremely talented. The question is whether he fits our system and if there would be greater long term value to the team in trading him. On the emotional side of it, its also fair to a great player like vilma to allow him to play in a system he is built for, not force him to fit our 3-4 defense.
