~ ~ Bid for Colombo The Cowboys have offered free agent right tackle Marc Colombo a two-year contract worth about $7 million. According to NFL sources, the offer is similar to the deal right tackle Jon Stinchcomb signed Friday with the Saints.Like Colombo, Stinchcomb spent his first four seasons as an observer and recovering from a serious injury. He became a regular in 2006. > http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/16851030.htm
Never get into a bidding war. Pay him what hes worth + incentives. If he really wants to play his football here , then he'll come.
but thats not what its about. its about filling a need, and thats not a mega contract so yes we have to up the ante. what the hell kind of incentives would he work on? appearing in 16 games? starting? he knows the cowboys want him. its time to show him we want him more. this is one singing cowboys fans see as a MUST to get done. and that tells me alot. not to mention ive seen a good deal of him from last yr and he is a VERY solid, good RT.
Yes , keep himself healthy , train hard and play well. If he is the be all, end all of RTs then yes let him know and go after him. Is there no one else that we are interested in at that spot?
NO theres not, this is why im saying its time to up the ante. OL do not want to work off incentives I'm telling you. otherwise theyll think theyre being rotated to not make the bonus. this is a very cheap contract and theres no need to drag incentives, his incentive to play is the bigger contract. it needs to get done.
What do you mean no there's not? There are no other tackles in free agency? How do you know what Tanginibaum is thinking?
omg, theres no other tackles worth bringing in to start, we might has well have kept clements. Colombo is a GOOD RT. not just some stop gap player. we sign colombo our run blocking improves. which in turn opens up our passing game. he would be a pretty big pickup. just cuz theres other guys doesnt mean theyre worth it.
Give him another million, wtf do you mean "no bidding wars"...how the heck else do you get a FA that another team wants? Give him what he's worth to us...like instead of upping the ante, give him a 3-year 10.5 million conatract. Those big old guys like longer contracts and then we could concentrate on OG, CB, and DL/LB in the draft.
Yeah, it is down to Columbo and Clement. WE NEED COLUMBO! Giving him another million, or sign him for a longer deal. Columbo would improve our line so much, we need to come away with a starting OT before the draft, and I am hoping it is not Clement.
i dont know who shit in your coffee this morning but things will get better and maybe if you havent noticed but we have no RT. and im not interested in the jets plugging in journeyman after journeyman while we make excuses for our passing game and blame our backs for a lack of running game. colombo is good, that conract isnt absurd. so theres no reason not to make a move for him.
When you see what these mediocre guards have been getting on the open market, giving Colombo a good deal more than that is a no brainer. This guy had an excellent year in pass protection and is precisely the type of guy we need. -X-

I'm all for upgrading the OL but Colombo has had only one good season. Before that he was a fringe player at best. I think the Jets will address this need in the draft.
but he was known as a player before the injuries. hence the 1st rd pick status. He is 100% healthy now. and his talent is starting to show.
