I really don't pretend to know what is going on inside Bill Belichick's head, but I do know that most Patriots fans are terrified of Jets fans, because they are so fiercely loyal to their team, and so knowledgable.
I love when people sign up and in 2 days they are experts into the type of poster I would say is a troll. Thanks, when a Pats fan comes here to offer some real Football discusion I would be the last one to say he was a troll. Thanks for offering nothing to this thread other to refute something which you know absolutely nothing about. I suggest you pull up some of that trolls posts and find something with a repsonse other then.............. "You are a homer", "That response was a$$inine" "You are a moron". Chances are you will not. Sorry that is not difference of opinion that is being an agitator at the very least or at most he is so stupid he can not formulate a good counter point in an argument so he has to attack. I am being very kind in wording the former. Whatever......................., I hope you offer something to this forum in the way of dissenting opinions, lets hear it.
I don't think he fears him but I think he was upset that Mangini had such a good insight into the defense for one year at least.
Is this a serious post or an april fools joke? Wasn?t Mangini the water boy or towell boy for the Patriots 3 or 4 seasons ago? Are you that used to having sh!tty coaches that you?re going to compare him to perhaps the greatest coach in the history of the NFL? BB is pissed at Mangini for 1 reason?he broke the unwritten code of coaches by trying to snatch players away on the plane ride home after the Denver playoff loss. In a somewhat unethical way Mangini went behind his back like a mole. Not one person in Patriot Nation gives a sh!t that Mangini left?and that?s a fact. The Jet?s had a somewhat easy schedule last season, they beat the Patriots in what could be classified as a fluke, but congrats on that (I think if the teams play 10 straight the odds are the Jets will win 1 or 2). Every week the Patriots take the other teams best shot due to their recent history of a championship caliber seasons. The Jets may see the affect of this next season as they were a playoff team. Don?t be surprised if they go 8-8. BB did not take any money from the Jets. Parcells and BB started in NE and if anything was stolen by the Jets.
1) So how did it feel to get beat by your former towel boy? 2) Wow, where did you get the list of unwritten codes? I've been looking all over for that. Can you share your whole list with us to put us in the 'know' as you are? 3) We played the 2 superbowl teams and the Pats twice. All three losses we very close. 4) Read up son. BB was give a 1M bonus to stay as DC with the Jets with the understanding he would become the HC. He took the money and then bolted. 5) BP & BB were both in NY before they were ever in NE.
I'm pretty sure Belichick took 1 million semolians from Hess......and from reading your post it would seem we're in a time warp and in the midst of a Patriots dynasty. When teams named Pittsburgh and Indianapolis are winning Super Bowls, we're not in Patriots dynasty mode anymore. Belichick took players and coaches when he left for NE too. They all do it. Every team takes the other teams "best shot" every game in the NFL. No team plays harder because they are playing NE. You gotta take of the Clam Chowda colored glasses.
If Belichik didn't feel like he was taking the money and running he would have found a better way to leave. Unfortunately he couldn't just come out and say in private meetings that he was leaving because everybody in the room knew he had been paid to stay. So he did that amateur hour routine in front of the cameras at the press conference called to announce his accession to the HC job of the Jets. It was a smooth move. He looked so nutty at the press conference and embarrassed himself and the organization so much that the Jets couldn't keep him even if they were contractually entitled. They did ream New England for appropriate compensation afterwards though.
My understanding, from what I read (unfortunately don't remember exactly what or where), was that Mangini actually stole property from the Patriots (now that I think about this, something about Mangini showing Pennington the Patriots scouting report on him). I always wondered why the Patriots didn't at least sue Mangini, if not report this theft to the police. I think if the Jets were more successful, there would be more outrage about Mangini's crimes, but as it is, no one really cares all that much.
1. It felt terrible, thanks. How did it feel to lose to us in the playoffs? 2. N/A 3. Real Close. That and a nickel will get you a hot cup of Jack Squat. 4. Stop acting like like the money was yours. A million dollars. Wow. 5. Nice way of twisting things. Sure, they were with the Giants in NY, but not the Jets. Kind of like playing in Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
The Pats haven't been that successful in the Mangini era themselves. Maybe the Pats should put a tail on Mangini and send the scouting report to the crime lab to check for DNA. Jeez....these Pats fans lately!
I've heard a lot of insinuations that Mangini did "something" to the Patriots when he left however no hard evidence has come forward that anything actually occurred. We did see a bunch of insinuations before the fact that Belichik really did not want Mangini to leave and was working very hard to convince him to stay. I've seen sour grapes before and that's what Belichik's actions subsequent to the departure really look like. And I agree with you that if the Patriots actually had hard evidence of any type of misappropriation of Patriot's property at the time of the departure they would have informed the authorities, although more likely the NFL than the police. Belichik really hates the Jets. He always has. If you think about it the only times that Belichik has seemed discombobulated was when he was dealing with a Jets related issue (or Bill Parcells which is another story entirely.) The likely reason that he has had such a raging hardon for Mangini the last season plus is that Mangini defected to the enemy. That's the most plausible explanation of events.
> I've heard a lot of insinuations that Mangini did "something" to the Patriots when he left however no hard evidence has come forward that anything actually occurred. Now that I think about it, I think it was Phil Sims doing commentary during the playoff game who mentioned how Mangini had shown Pennington the Patriots' scouting report on him. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, since it was kind of like Sims was talking about how Pennington had helped Mangini fence the office supplies he had taken from the Patriots. Needless to say, considering that it was Phil Sims relating the story, we don't really know if it's true, but if it is, I would be very surprised if the Patriots scouting reports were not confidential and proprietary property of the Patriots, and if Mangini took them then he had them illegally. Without going into details, I once had to return property to a former employer on the advice of a lawyer because of a pending legal dispute. I think I sent them a box with all kinds of junk although decided to keep the t-shirt they had given me.
I watched that game also and I don't recall Simms saying anything about Pennington having seen his scouting report. That would have sent up red flags for me and for anybody else watching. I'm pretty sure I did hear at numerous points last season that Mangini had prepared the Jets for the Pats by telling them how the Pats prepared for them. That of course would not be illegal in any way, since memory is not a property that can be withheld. I also recall that the Pats locked Mangini out of their facility immediately after learning he was in serious discussion with the Jets. That of course would have forestalled his ability, even assuming he wanted to, to take team materials with him. The accusations from the Patriots side have been so consistent and so across the board (Mangini tampered with people before he left, Mangini tampered with people after he left, Mangini took proprietary materials, Mangini hired Belichik players, Mangini hired Belichik coaches, etc) that it has all the appearances of a franchise that is determined not to let a guy get away clean. You have to admit that they've accused Mangini of everything but taking the petty cash jar with him. The NFL actually investigated the post-departure tampering charges related to Deion Branch and came to the conclusion that no tampering had occurred. In that light I hold all of the other charges to be of dubious value until some hard evidence is produced. Jet's-Patriots has been a grudge match since at least the 1996 offseason. In my opinion far moreso from the Patriots side since Bill Parcells departure from the Jets.
"Belichick is angry that Mangini left for one reason and one reason only. He fears him. Why else would BB get so wraped up in his hissy fit mind games like locking him out of his office and not talking/acknowleding him etc." Answer: Belichick hates the Jets! He's never made any secret of that. That's why the animosity. It's the equivalent of one of your closest friends eventually banging an ex-girlfirend who you've broken up with. Right or wrong. It doesn't exactly sit well.
I think I just used my tape of that game only a few weeks ago to tape something like Desperate Housewives or Grey's Anatomy for my wife. Figures. The story Simms told was specifically about the SIZE of the scouting report that Mangini took from the Patriots. It was a physical object. That's why I thought it was such a remarkable story, and I was surprised that it wasn't a bigger story. I think I may have commented on the anecdote right after I heard it, on patriotsplanet... I will go see if I can find that post...
I can't post links, but if you go to PatriotsPlanet and search for "Mangini AND Playbook" you should find my post on this subject on January 8th, I think. I guess that was the day after the Patriots/Jets playoff game.
