If Mangini had taken significant materials from the Patriots and that was common knowledge enough that Simms could say it on national TV then there WOULD have been a complaint lodged with the NFL and it would have been acted upon.

Lemme see who did Phil Simms play for again? Oh yeah it was the Giants. Who was the defensive coordinator on those Giants teams? Oh yeah it was Bill Belichik. Who told Simms that Mangini had taken a scouting report from the Patriots? Oh, I don't know, probably a little birdy...

The story was the Pennington was amazed at how big the scouting report was. Simms told the story as though he had heard it directly from Pennington.

I find it hard to believe that a film wonk like Pennington would be amazed at anything relating to the analytical side of the game. Again I'm gonna call bullshit until I see something more than innuendo and rumor associated with this.

    1. Honestly, not so bad. We were not expected to win. You had a seasoned team with better talent. Based on what he had, I felt pretty good about it.

    2.

    3. That and an extra season under the system, will get us some extra wins.

    4. Doesn't matter who's money it is BB is still a stiff.

    5. Truth is the truth. You imported NY talent first. The stadium crack is what non Jet fans use when they are all out of other ammo. It is a weak insult. I could give a crap if they played at the Rutgers stadium.

Not a bad answer, but let me clarify one thing:

It is kinda like your closest friend banging your ex girlfriend and knowing in the back of your mind he is better than you.

Whether he had the actual physical report/books is immaterial really. Unless they chopped his head off, he was comming here with all his expereince. I am sure he had Penny's scouting report memorized. He faced the guy twice a year for several years. Don't you think BB did the same when he left the Jets and when back to NE?

Yeah, I think that's probably right. The insinuation that Mangini did anything unethical or illegal with Patriot's materials is really a red herring in my opinion.

If half of the stuff he's accused of doing had actually happened he'd have been disciplined by now, as would the Jets franchise. That fact that that has not happened suggests to me that Belichik, like Al Davis, just can't stop trying to play mind games even when his team is the one that eventually suffers as a result.

The scouting report conspiracy is pretty amazing. Chad really looked like Johnny Unitas in three games against the Pats this year. All the supporting info can be found at a Patriots fansite? Dag.

You hear the one about the US gov't being behind 9/11?

No, no, no, no, no. If you listen to Belichik or his stooges it becomes apparent very quickly that Eric Mangini was the true genius behind 9/11...

It was so funny and telling watching them celebrate when they beat us, like they won the superbowl or something.

I think it?s a bit too early to crown EM. :drunk: I do like what he?s done thus far. Prior to the 05 season everyone was predicting that the Jets would be a playoff contender. Then the injury bug plagued the team. So EM came to the Jets with some material. Last season was not a total surprise considering the strength of schedule.

Don?t let old age fool you. BB still has something left in his tank. Old wise men still know a thing or two. In several years we might be able to call the young buck, EM, ?King?. :gpc: Let?s see what they do in the draft in a few weeks. If they fill several needs (WR-a real burner; G-a big road grader and DT- a big nasty hole-stuffer) then we might call him Prince EM. We still need an accurate QB with some velocity on the ball.

    BRING BACK FOLEY!!!!!!!!!!:jets:

Prior to 05 we had Curtis Martin, Wayne Chrebet and Kevin Mawae. And if your memory serves you correctly, the consensus was that we would be happy to win 5 or 6 games and exstatic to win 8. We won 10. But that is ok. Funny things start happening inside your dome as you get old. Being old is like driving an old deisel. Sometimes it needs an extended visit to the shop while you romp around in a newer model.

I agree we lost a few good players from the 05 season.

The fact remains that the nucleus of the team was still intact. The Tangene team had a nice draft. But one draft and a good season does not put ?PRINCE? EM in the same league as BB. Only time will tell if BB can match the success of BB. I hope you?re right. I would love to see the organization with a few championship trophies.

BB is like an old diesel which will be running for many more years with some LTC. Don?t be so quick to count BB out. :shit:

You are essentially comparing the 2004 team to the 2006 team. In addition to the players I already mentioned, I did not mention guys like Jordan, McKenzie, and Abraham. Not to mention CP comming off cuff surgery. So exactly what nucleus did we retain from the 2004 team? He did not get coach of the year recognition for nothing.

Yes, BB has the illustrious past. But this thread is about this point forward. My prediction is the EM will be "a" or even "the" premier coach in the league. I think he has special talent. Which in my opinion, is why BB got his panties in such a wad when he left to come here.

It was the Jets that got Belichik's goat. Mangini could have gone just about anywhere else and there would have been no problem. Going over to the enemy just absolutely did Belichik in.

As to where Mangini will rank in a dozen years, who knows. Odds on his career outranking Belichik's at that point are very slim. Odds on Jets fan being very happy with him anyway are pretty good though. There have only been 3 coaches in my history as a Jet's fan that I thought might win a Super Bowl: Walt Michaels, Bill Parcells and now Eric Mangini. 3rd time is the charm.

Wait, Thomas, you seem like an intelligent guy here, but you're going on a comment by Phil Simms during a game...

The Pasts filed tampering charges on the Jets for the dealings with Branch, why would they not raise holy hell in the press and with the league about Mangini thieving scouting reports from his old team, a division rival? Why was there no peep in the press about it?

I read the thread you started on it on PP.com at the time that you started it and it still makes no sense why a side comment from Simms would raise such red flags. Simms is not exactly the guy I am going to listen to as far as a league insider source. Signs point more to him talking out of his ass in this situation than to anything else, IMO.

    1) So how did it feel to get beat by your former towel boy?
    2) Wow, where did you get the list of unwritten codes? I've been looking all over for that. Can you share your whole list with us to put us in the 'know' as you are?
    3) We played the 2 superbowl teams and the Pats twice. All three losses we very close.
    4) Read up son. BB was give a 1M bonus to stay as DC with the Jets with the understanding he would become the HC. He took the money and then bolted.5) BP & BB were both in NY before they were ever in NE.

    Supersonic...
1 - fluke regular season game. The Jets have to win a game against the Pats once every 8 games or so. It's the law of averages (but not in the playoffs!)
3 - Only a Jet fan would consider "close" a possitive. That's like me saying the Patriots came close to another SB last season. The Pats lost in the AFC-CG and I'm pissed.
4 - The million dollars was his salary. So he took his paycheck, and then got the hell away from Parcells. And then even Parcells bolted.
5 - Parcells was an assistant coach for the Patriots in 1980 before he went to the Giants.........son. Read up (whatever that means).

This post is really is an April fools joke.....right?? You should have made it more realistic....maybe try to compair BB and Shannahan (or something). He seems like the only coach that comes close.

I thought Joe Walton had the best shot of anyone before Parcells came onboard.

    1. Law of averages says that Mangini is 1-2 against you. Don't factor Herms failures into the equation bc they dont apply. We will be sure to watch that law improve dramatically over the next couple years.

    2. It shows progress and if things continue to move as they are we will convert those kind of games in the future.

    3. The million was beyond his previous salary specifically designed to keep him from taking a HC job with the understanding he would coach here.

    4. We can take this a step further if you want, Parcells is from NJ.
