Mussina vs Kennedy: 7:05 Igawa vs Gaudin: 1:05 Pettite vs Haren: 1:05 Gotta win tomorrow because the other 2 will be hard.
Whenever I go to a Yankee game, I always go in through the left field spirals so I can get a look at the new stadium. It's a long walk because my seats are tier behind home plate, so I have to go all the way around and back, but it's really interesting to watch the progress. Nice picture
what's weird is that the yankees are HEAVY favorites tonight, even though mussina hasn't been that good this season. I would favor them to win slightly, but they're -220! -220!
How many plays like that does he have to make in his career to get credit for his range and arm strength? I think the fact that he makes it look so effortless it what works against him. No other SS can make that play look that easy... D.J. the Cap't, aka the Best SS in the ML :breakdance:
he's not a very good fielder. that "effortless argument" is so wrong. people judging jeter as below-average in the field are using mostly facts. there's no doubt that the best shortstop on the team is not playing shortstop.
What Facts? That it's effortless and he throws people out while he's in the air moving away from 1st base? these "Facts" you talk about are BS Facts from the haters.
Finally! Still not a "great" game, but good all the same. Moose was adequate, and got help in the field. The bats are still leaving FAR too many runners on base. (Yes, I couldn't help myself, and I watched the game.) Jeter's play was fantastic. He is underrated, but Yis did put out one truth, the best SS on the team is not playing SS. Jeter is EASILY the second best SS in the ML who is playing short though. (Reyes is more naturally talented, but probably more just because of his raw speed.) --------------- Did anyone see when Farnsworth was coming off the mound? He clearly was pissed off when he saw Joe coming to pull him, and justifiably so IMO. He pitched well. The two hits he did give up were just lucky spots to hit to. One right back up the middle, and the other Cairo was out of position. Walking off the mound though, the camera was right on Farnsworth, and he clearly said "Fu*k you Joe." Torre has lost this team. How he's still managing is beyond me. ---------------- I'm just happy to see we finally won a game. Now we need to string these together consistently.
F'n Joe just said on the postgame that Mo "bailed out Farnsy." WTF?!?! Farnsworth was pitching just fine! At what point is Joe going to let his relivers prove one way or another that they can get the job done? I am absolutely disgusted with Torre. He has to be fired. I can't take this anymore.
Range Factor, Zone Rating, etc. Statistics, real numbers, that prove that he's annually one of the worst shortstops when it comes to covering his ground. You know one of the reasons that better defensive shortstops like Orlando Cabrera or Reyes don't make that leaping throw from back in the hole? They don't need too. They get better jumps, move to the ball faster, and have stronger arms so they can plant and throw. That is what I'd call making it look effortless.
Yanks were less than 220 tonight. But the Yankees are always at least 20 higher than they should be for every game. At least 20, often more.
Wow Moose pitched well...I'm stunned. But how can you only score that little off of Joe Kennedy? Jeez. Today Special-Kei goes today...I'm hoping he can pitch good.
Wait to see what happens at the break. If they don't win at least 6 or 7 of these games going in it'm my guess he will be replaced then. As for Jeter, he is probably the best at moving to his right but he's terrible moving to his left and that is where all the complaints come from about him.
Igawa might be better off as a lefty specialist, short reliever. He can't adjust on the fly at all, and well, when Jason Kendall is smoking the ball of you, that says a lot about how you pitch against righties. Also, outstanding sequence for Gaudin after going down 3-0 to A-Rod with men on base. Three consecutive fastballs, low and on the black outside. Perfect.
I know Kendall is a slugger and all (3 homers in last 1300+ at bats) but it would have been nice if Igawa kept it in the ballpark today. The tightatar is getting it done for Abreu either. If A-Rod doesn't score runs, they're just not scored.
