http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm JETS ACTIVATE CURTIS MARTIN by Michael David Smith Thanks to the Jets Blog for pointing out that the NFL's official transactions page now lists running back Curtis Martin as activated from the team's physically unable to perform list. Much like the Colts' activation of defensive tackle Corey Simon, which happened on Thursday, it could be the first step toward officially ending Martin's career with the Jets. Unlike Simon, of course, Martin has been a tremendous player for the Jets whose tenure with the team will be celebrated when his departure becomes official. Martin played eight seasons with the Jets, which followed three with the Patriots, who drafted him in 1995. With 14,101 career rushing yards, he has a good chance of being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Martin re-worked his contract with the Jets last month, which freed up some salary cap space for the team. Few people seriously expected him to return in 2007, as he turned 34 in May, had his least productive season in 2005 and missed all of 2006 with a knee injury.
He has hung them up. Activating him now probably does nothing more then give him another year's eligibility in the pension plan.
Ok, I read "Jets Activate Martin" and my heart leaped into my throat. For a nano-second I thought he was coming back. I don't know about anyone else, but I would really like to get the retirement service over with.
Curtis sued the company that has his insurance pollicy for his legs ,thats a clear indication that its over!
Maybe, but I find it hard to believe that someone who has been paid 10's of millions of dollars over the past 10 years or so is overly concerned about a pension plan.
I can't help but have the feeling that any move concerning Curtis Martin at this point has more to do with his lawsuit against his insurance company than it does with the team.
The Pats signed Troy Brown again. Rumor is they are going to sign Testaverde again. Maybe the Jets are just gearing up for the "Geezer Wars"!
I believe there was a link to this on G.G. Message board. or in the side pnl of espn. a couple of months ago!
Can anyone pls explain me, what this means? I mean, y would they reactivate him? Does this help him with his Insurance Battle? Why? Does this point to a retirement soon? Why?
Old News. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2007/05/19/2007-05-19_martin_sues_insurer.html The insurance company refused to pay Martin 5 million dollars for his injury which has prevented him from paying. I think it is Lloyds of London. After all the paycuts hes given himself/taken that money is deserved, especially since he paid for the policy all these years. I hope he wins. The prepaid premium cost him $178,250. I guess insurance companies does not like to pay anyone. Activating him most likely allows him to retire an active Jet.
Why are you guys dogging Martin? we have no idea why the move was made. You guys are reading into it. Give C Mart a break.
