This may be a dumb question but I'm from Chicago and get most of my news from you guys. But where is Houston...hurt? if so how? or contract disputes? If anyone can fill me in thanks.
Shit happens sometimes and as dumb as it looks on the outside, maybe he had a good reason to leave it behind. I hope everything works out for him down the road.
You play football all your life, you finally get the unlikely chance of making it to the big leagues, and you quit! WTF?
Yeah, I agree with that. He wasn't going to go anywhere big, but to walk away from 435k for 4 months when you're in your mid twenties is absolutely insane... there aren't really any good reasons that I can think of other than a family member is dying, I have a drug problem, or something like that. So, my guess is it probably is something like that but it's personal and no one wants to say anything about it.
Well, I do recall reading that his health isn't exactly perfect, some sort of thyroid problem, maybe it was something constantly nagging him while playing that he just didn't want to deal with it anymore...at least it's not as bad as Tiki doing it mid-season in the prime of his career.
Playing in the NFL is a once in a lifetime opportunity. How many people actually have that chance? It wasn't like he was injury prone or had a lot of concussions. I think, if he sticks to his guns and doesn't come back soon, one day he's gonna be kicking himself in regret. And I don't think it's drugs, because it looks like it was his decision entirely and had nothing to do with the team. As far as we know, the Jets wanted him to play. And that's another thing, right now, this team needs him. That shows that he's not only young and naive, but he's also selfish. If it's something horrible and he really needed to leave, I understand and I regret saying this, but at face value, he just looks stupid and selfish.
He wasn't a very good running back. He wasn't even an average running back. He left with his health intact and his savings to live on until he figured out what was next. Damn good move on his part I think. Lots of guys have left the NFL crippled with not enough to live on.
of course it is all glory to outsiders, but it takes a real dedicated individual to go through the grinds of being an NFL player, and it is quite possible he simply burned out on playing and walked away. nothing unusual or selfish about that. it happens to alot of people in a lot of high-paying professions. you need to step away from your own awe of the glory of being a pro-athlete and look at it from the position of someone who has had the glory, and who possibly posseses the intelligence to analyze his current life and determine whether being a pro football player is what he wantes to do. haven't you ever strived for something that when you got it it wasn't what you hoped for. same thing here. just because you would love to be an nfl player doesn't mean Cedric Houston should just because he has the opportunity.
i hope he didn?t leave football, cuz he had to. i hope he decided, that he?s happier doing something different!!! @RedWhiteBlue&Green: nice ava:breakdance:
"His health was also an issue when the Jets drafted him after it was discovered during the NFL combine in 2005 that he had a previously undiagnosed thyroid condition that sapped his energy and strength at times during his college career at Tennessee. The condition didn't scare off the Jets, who made sure he was treated with proper medication."
