Guys, I know its early but I think its becoming clear we screwed up this draft big time and I am sure most of you guys are going to agree with me. I think most people on this board agree that he most important thing on any football team is winning in the trenches. Our pass rush, run D, and run blocking were awful last year. So what do we do? We trade all our picks and draft a corner and a linebacker. Revis may be good, but it wont really matter to the jets if he even turns into champ bailey. If the jets had bailey and clements as their corners it wouldnt make that much of a difference. The Jets FO needs to realize that it doesnt matter who are your LB's and defensive backs are if you have no D-line. I am starting to think at 5'7 150 pounds I could do a better job at creating a pass rush and stopping the run. Then the same goes for the O-line. Does the FO not realize it doesnt matter who ur backs, qb,and receivers are if you have no-oline? If manning or brady had that o-line they woudnt fare too well either. They would probably be out of football by now. All I am saying is look at all the top teams. They all have great O lines and D lines. For this team to get better, we need to build in the trenches, and not every other position whose sucess depends largely on those 2 elements of the team.
Sorry Jetglass, but this is one of the least informed posts I've ever read on the GG! The Jets picked up the best cover corner in the draft, and a future Pro Bowler in Reavis - along with a starting ILB who can also be a Pro Bowler! You can't get everything you need in the draft - if you had 10 picks in the 1st two rounds maybe? OG should have been a FA priority, and the Dline can do better - the game plan was wrong...
I agree with Green Guy. Revis looked good. Its not a reach to say he's already our best corner and if not will be very soon. I think where the Jet were caught off guard was the price given to the FA offensive linemen. This was less about the draft and more about not being fully aware of the adjusting free agent market. They brought in Coleman to help the D line. He did OK yesterday. The LB created no mismatches when they did Blitz, and we were unable to disrupt the pocket with our front 3 when we did not blitz. That in itself caused most of our defensive problems. To Jetglass, who would you have drafted instead to fix the O line instantly? Did our spending 2 high picks on the line help as much as they should? Do we just keep drafting O line in rounds 1, 2, and 3 untill we find 5 decent guys? Whats the answer?
Actually We F*d up the 06 draft, 07 will turn out to be a banner year. If we had traded OUT of the 4 spot, and not taken DBust, we could have taken Mangold, Maroney (which also would have left the pats without a RB, and RB WAS a need last year....), Eric Winston (T-Mia, taken by Texans) and picked up another choice or two...
I think they could have goen with a LG in round 2, but he wouldn't be a pro bowler at thsi point even if we did so whatever.
My problem with the 07 draft was trading away all the picks to get Revis and Harris...a team with this many holes needs many players. Any chimpanzee can trade away all your draft picks to move into the top15 and get more of a sure thing...a talented evaluator finds the best players along the way and keeps more picks. On top of all this, with only 4 players to sign, Tann couldn't even get Revis into camp on time.
Did anyone mention that we acquired TJ, too. I think we did pretty good on the draft, but we did lousy in FA. That is where we could have maybe done a bit better on the O-line and D-line.
Why? He picked up 5 players that will be significant contributors this year. Revis, Harris, Jones,.... (obvious), Bender and Stuckey thats taking this years draft, and getting 5 guys that produce, 3 of whom are probable starters at some point, 4 if Bender makes it (probably), and Stuckey is almost definitely your slot receiver for the next several years. \ Would you rather have has some 5&6 round choices to cut at the end of Camp?
I am truly sorry about the your brain injury and becoming brain dead. I wish you a speedy recovery Yep, everyone was able to tell yesterday from one game that Revis and Harris are both pro bowlers. They shoudnt even have to play ever again, they are pro bowlers already. Game plan was wrong? Put down the crackpipe, our pas rush and run D were this awful last year as welll. I dont fault you though since yesterday was the first NFL game you ever watched. We will talk later and I will explain to you how the game of football works, and how important winning in the trenches is. I hope you enjoyed watching you first jet game yesterday!
Come on, you know urself everyone has 20/20 hindsight. Its not like we were the only team that wanted D'brick that early in the draft. So are you saying that if the jets picked every right player on the draft since their inception they would be really good? Wow, talk about going out on a limb.
when did all 5 of these guys become sure things. bender wasn't even active, thats how much they think of him. stuckey??? what has he done. ohhh, you THINK he's a sure thing. got it!!! and now harris. he looked good against second stringers but this defense is complicated for a rookie or 2nd year guy to learn. maybe here... i like what i've seen with revis so far but i'm not putting him in the pro bowl just yet. and jones isn't going to be happy very long if the blocking doesn't get better, quickly. by the time the jets oline has the players it needs, jones may be on his last leg.....
This is one of the worst posts ever. The Jets got two studs in this draft and Stuckey looks good also and the OG has potential.
The 06 draft was where the mistakes were made, as someone else mentioned. As far as 07, i think it was a good draft, but the bigger mistakes were in not getting better FAs to help shore up the multiple weaknesses. Being 10M under the cap means absolute dogcrap to me.
Calling you out- and don't try to pretend that you don't see this post: 1) Point to my "awful posts." 2) Point to my "lack of Jets knowledge." 3) Give me some stats as to who else, besides yourself, considers my avatar to be "ridiculous." Do so quickly, as I am anxious to learn of your findings.
1) The one above 2) Oh please. I mean where do I start, no? 3) I really haven't discussed this with anyone, therefore, I wouldn't know. But thank you for the unprovoked attack.
