ive stumbled upon while i was doing some reading, i found it to be pretty interesting, thought u guys will too........The Jets have converted 51.5 percent of their third-down chances, second-best in the NFL, and are 11 of 13 -- including nine touchdowns -- in the red zone, third-best in the league. now with those numbers we should not be 1-4, it just reinforces how pennington's int's have just killed this team, if he can start to cut down on those awful int's we might not see kellen for a while, which, personally, is a bit of a pickle bc i root for the jets to win week in week out, but i also want to see the kid play, maybe if chad picks it up we can get good value for him next offseason
You're surprised? Any team in the league would KILL to have just one option with hands like Coles and Cotchery do when it comes time to convert a tough 3rd down... We've got two EDIT: Looks like I joined this discussion a little late :shit:
Chad's INts the last 2 weeks have been killers but it also shows we are playing from behind and that we can't get a running game going and we don't have a D that can stop anybody. Chad didn't throw an INt in each of his first 2 games and we still got crushed by NE and had to hold on against an awful Miami team.
Maybe 7th. These are all better (in no particular order) Wayne-Harrison Johnson - Housmandazie Holt-Bruce or Bennett Moss - Stallworth Boldin - Fitzgerald Johnson-Williams
We have a high 3rd down converssion rate because we are a low risk O which can't convert long 3rd down plays. Because of that we throw a lot of safe 5 yards and under passes to set up 3rds and short. Becuase we take such low risk on 1st and 2nd down it takes us a huge amount of plays to score points. When you run a lot of plays to score you can get 3 or 4 first downs and still not score, you can get an INT or 1 blown 3rd down play and still have a high converssion % of third downs. Teams that make big plays convert a lower % of third downs but they may be scoring at a much higher %.
Here's another interesting stat: 99% of stats that are referenced on this site are thin excuses for more Chad bashing.
Fraid I disagree on a few of them.... Holt-Bruce or Bennett, tells me that isnt a duo, but a trio, and Holt just isnt destroying people like he used to. He is however having a solid year, 28 grabs for 351 and 3 tds. Comparable to LC, however, Bruce and bennet have a COMBINED total of 23 catches 293 yards and a single TD. While they're TD numbers are better than Cotch's they are not better overall. Moss- Stallworth um no. Moss does all the work what does Stallworth have 10 grabs and a TD, Moss himself doesnt create a tandem. Johnson-Williams I assume we are talking Lions, Johnson is a Rookie and Williams, while he's playing great doesn't alone make this a top 10 tandem for the NFL. Talk to me in 3 years, Johnson at this point has 11 grabs, all be it 2 tds. But a shade under 200 yards, for a stellar 17. YPC so when they involve him more it will be good, now though, he has less grabs and yards than Mike Furrey, Shaun Macdonald, and Macdonald has more tds as well. Coles Cotch are damn solid. Coles has 32 grabs, 300 yards and 4 TDs. Cotch has 30 grabs 414 yards, no tds. So coles grabs the scores, while Cotch racks up the yards.
We did convert a very high percentage of 3rd and long last week. It was one of the bright spots. I think the stat is more indicative of how good we are with QB sneaks, I swear I have not seen a NFL team run more QB sneaks, it is unbelievalbe.
That stat is actually horrible because of what type of QB chad is. We probably on average have to get 6 first downs just to get into field goal range because Chad cant throw for more than 10 yards. Other teams don't have to convert as many first downs as we do in order to score.
As support, the Jets have the second most 3rd down attempts in the NFL with 52. The Colts are first with 56. However, the colts being first is a result of getting more possessions due to their offense. As you can imagine, the Jets are near the bottom in yards per play at 4.6, for a ranking of 27th out of 32 teams. (Being ahead of two winless teams, and the bears [QB change], bills [QB change] and 49ers [QB change] isn't great company.)
And the worst part about that, is that we pass A LOT more than we run.... You'd expect teams that try to grind it out on the ground to have a lower yards per play... But we've been throwing A LOT, and we're not moving the ball very well... It's kind of embarrassing... Albeit, not as embarrassing as the Bears...
13 trips to the red zone in 5 games and you want to imply that the interceptions are the problem? 13 trips to the red zone in 5 games!!!!
