Anyone hear his spot? Pretty crazy how combative Joe was getting with him... What do you guys think is really going on w/ Vilma? I mean when does a player on IR not say what is wrong with them? I can understand if he is questionable for next week of something, but no one is schemeing for a guy on IR...
The entire situation stinks to high heaven. I think Vilma is definitely injured due to his crappy play, because he is far more talented than he has shown of late. But, Mangini might have him in the doghouse for "hiding" the true extent of his injuries from trainers and staff.
Joe and Evan kept asking Vilma what the actual injury was, and he wouldn't say... wouldn't even say what knee it was... Then Joe kind of accused John of sounding too "happy" for someone who was on IR, kind on insinuating that he wasn't really badly injured but was just glad the season was over for him, and is already resigned to playing somewhere else next year in a different system...
Please tell me Vilma went all Jim Everett on his ass. They would make this season all worht it.
Joe is saying it was "stupid" for Mangini to call Belichick on the spying issue and "ticking him off." Joe hopes it will be a "learning experience" this year, that the Jets will go up to Foxboro and lose 75-0 as payback. Evan is calling him out on it and saying Mangini's playcalling is the problem, not calling out Belichick.
I'm glad Joe is calling him out. I'm convinced us real Jets fans take the games more seriously than some of the players. Of course, when you bring home a fat paycheck no matter what, it's easy to go home and smile.
Joe is saying Harris gave us a "better game than Vilma has given us in 3 years." Holy shit, he's really unloading on Vilma.
I suspected an uneasiness in Vilma the last time Joe brought up Harris during the an interview. Seems to me Vilma knows Harris is a more formidable 3-4 player than himself, and knew the coaching staff was equally impressed.
as a fan - what the F does it matter to you, which knee of Vilma's is hurt? Any fan that cares about that more than the bottom line - of the Jets winning games - is a moron. I hope it's really only media people who get pissed off by those things... I really do.
You're missing the point. By a lot. The point is, if Vilma isn't even willing to say which knee is hurt, it lends credence to the suspicion that he's not actually hurt after all. If that's the case, and Mangini gets busted, he's out of a job. You can't IR a guy just because you don't like him.
So anyway, how did Vilma respond to this verbal assault? Did he at least stand up for himself in terms of his desire?
I have to agree with this. It's the media that gets more pissed than I do over stuff like this. In fact, there's a need for insulation from the press, otherwise, if they get too much detail, they give out information we don't need given out. If we have to err on the side of too little information, so be it.
I highly doubt Mangini would do that, the extent of the injury may be up for debate but he is hurt, no doubt about it. If Vilma is not hurt and is taking this IR without a fight, then he is not the warrior many of us thought he was.
Better than having Herm the Germ around, who loved to give out all the information anyone could want.
People love a good conspiracy theory. This is a mole hill that much is being made of where nothing exists. The guy is hurt - they put him on IR. It isn't about liking him as a person. It is about him being able to perform and do the job, which if he is hurt he most likely cannot be as effective. Mangini doesn't strike me as the sort of person that would falsely put someone on IR. And he has always been supportive of Vilma and his hard work ethic.
what has Mangini done that you think he would risk his team draft picks / his job / and any potential job he'd have as a head coach - just to sit Vilma for the rest of the season? I'm not interested in Jets related conspiracy theories - only ones about 9/11
I don't really see Vilma as being that kind of player tho... I think he got repremanded by Mangini for what he said in the spot last week... Maybe the IR placement is even a punishment from Mangini? Who knows with this coach...
I think he's hurt and was hurt much earlier on then we suspect, as his decline in play indicated. Seems to me he was unable to plant his knee and was easily pushed aside. He got eaten up alot the last few games. His movement toward the sideline seemed slower as well.
Of course Mangini would do that! He's no good. We hired some random Patriots guy hoping to catch the magic. But he wasn't really doing any work over there. Bellichick runs that defense. Next thing you know we're going to make a run at Dean Pees. I bet half the Pats fans don't even know that's their defensive coordinator. Mangini's only genius is that he collected a fat paycheck for nothing in NE. He knows it so he tried to knock off the Pats by drumming up spygate hoping to gain an advantage in the AFC East. Only problem is the team is so bad the only advantage would be pulling some kids out of high school to play with us.
