In NFL Transactions in the NY Times: Giants- " Signed RB Danny Ware off the N.Y Jets practice squad."
Not much we can do about it. We have 2 solid guys at RB and there top 2 guys are hurting right now. Still, If I see Danny Ware running for 125 yards next week it will be unnerving that the Giants got a good rb from us again.
SHIT! He is a good prospect. I would love to have seen more from him, thats one that got away for sure.
No. Ward has not been with the Jets since October 13, 2004 when the Giants signed him off the Jets practice squad.
What was Tannenbaum supposed to do exactly? Ware was a PS player. It took the Giants to go through ALL of their RBs before they signed him. Was Tannenbaum supposed to sign Ware to the active roster in spite of Jones or Washington?
First, it would have been a nice reward for his PS efforts all year if they gave him the OPPORTUNITY to play in a real game to see how he did. Second, he showed some good potential in pre-season, but they just didnt seem to give a crap about that (he had 15 for 57 vs the gnats in the PS game). Also, they are now very short on RBs- who is going to be Jamal Lewis on the scout team in practice this week?
So you would have started Ware over Jones? Over Washington? Potential is great, but in order for him to be able to play you have to put him on the active roster. That means you are taking a roster space from someone else. Maybe Ware wasn't that good of a ST player (which you have to be to warrant activating 3 RBs a game) to warrant deactivating someone else. And this CS has shown, if nothing else, that they are willing to let young players, or players that perform during practice, play. Obviously there was something keeping him on the PS, most likely he sucks at STs. The Giants needed a RB, the Jets didn't, simple as that.
I would have activated him over some other guys like Chris Davis and Manny Collins. They could have taken a look at him in a game where Devito was deactivated.
Jetcane is just probably remembering, as I am doing, that Danny Ware had a pretty decent camp this summer. As I recall, he exhibited toughness, a good sense for the hole and a decent-enough north-south guy. Unfortuanately, that describes Thomas Jones to a "T," and there are only so many spots on the active roster...
I have noticed Davis making some plays, especially on STs. They might have saw something in Collins in practice and they wanted to see him in a regular game. Maybe they didn't with Ware. More than likely Ware just wasn't that good of a ST player to warrant activating 3 RBs. There are 52 players on the active roster, I believe only 45 (or is it 47?) maximum are activated each game. So if DeVito was deactivated, he becomes irrelevant to the gameday roster (so Ware couldn't take is spot because there was no spot to begin with).
I'm not so sure about that. My main man Manny showed a lot in the short time he was practicing. I think the Jets see something there and also, what do we do for depth if a corner goes down? Poteat and Barrett are always getting nicked and Miller is already out for the season.
I am sorry to see the kid go too, he showed potential. But there was nothing to be done about it really, that is why the league has PS. Players are signed off practice squads all the time.
Collins was never on the active roster -_- Also, we currently have 0 FBs and 2 RBs on our roster, isn't that a few too little? We could have had a spot for him.
