Does anyone remember that United Way commercial with John Abraham? Well in that commercial John was at a school and he asked a kid a bunch of history dates, and the kid knew all of them. Then John asks when will the Jets win their next superbowl and the kid says 2008. Now I know that the 2008 Superbowl won't have the Jets, but whether the Pats of G-Men win they are considered the 2007 version. I just thought I would post this just because I am probably as depressed as everyone here right now and I think it would be really weird if it happened. Hey you never know, if you told me this time last year the Giants would be in the Superbowl I would have thought you were high or something. Hey its something to hold on to.
It'll be the 40th anniversary of our only Super Bowl, perfect time to do it. The perfect year next season would be to win the Wild Card (let NE take the division) then beat the Chiefs in round 1, beat the Patriots in the divisional playoff, beat the Colts in the AFC Championship, and beat the Giants in the Super Bowl. That would make the last 7 years all worth it.
If someone could give me a bit of history here please, so I can put this dream in perspective. What is the lowest position a team has come from to win a SB in the following year?
Thanks Cakes. So it has been done. Maybe here is not the place but it would be interesting if someone was to evaluate that remarkable turn around and compare it to our current situation.
In addition to the acquisition of Faulk, the Rams drafted Torry Holt in the 1st round. Grant Wistrom (1st rd pick in '98) came into his own and was inserted into the starting lineup for the first time in his career in Week 1 of 1999 and was the regular starter there for the next half decade. Kurt Warner didn't fall on his face, but rather he played exceptional football. I had them pegged as a 10-6 playoff team that summer. When Rodney Harrison injured Trent Green in a preseason game, I changed my prediction and figured they'd be back in the NFC West basement.
The Rams had future greats who put it together all at once. Marshall Faulk-Hall of famer Tory Holt-Hall of Famer Isacc Bruce-Boarder line Hall Of Famer Kurt Warner-Boarderline Hall Of Famer The Jets Have ?????????????????????????????????????? We Play in an Afc with the Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Jaguars and Steelers! Jets 2008 = 8-8 at best Sad but true.
Don't underestimate some of the players we have... a horrible offensive line can make a team look a lot worse than it really is, and a very good offensive line can make a team look a lot better than it really is... right now we are in the horrible offensive line category, but with two smart FA signings at LG and RT, the Jets should have the ability to fill their other holes with people who will be effective and allow us to be competitive again next year.
I think Mangold, Revis, Harris, Cotchery and Rhodes can be pretty good football players but I doubt very seriously that we have Five future to boarder line Hall of fame players on our team. The schedule that we have for next year does not look as bad as it was this year (ON PAPER) and if we follow the script of 06 we can be decent but at the end of the day we are as close to the super bowl as the Dolphins. My hope is for us to fix both lines this year and worry about the rest next offseason.
