The truth is, these "preseason" games are nothing more than meaningless scrimmages and increasingly so. It gets to the point where the final two preseason games don't even include most starters. I don't mind watching them still, because I always like to see our new guys competing for a position on the team, but most "fans" don't see them that way. They want their kid to go to the game and see Chad Pennington "win" the Jets game, so the interest in these games drops off dramatically. This is why it's unconscionable for the jets to charge me full price for the tickets to these games. Fair market value is more like $10-$25, not the exhorbitant price I have to pay when my bill arrives.
I don't think that Shea could host a football game anymore. Didn't they renovate the stadium after the jets moved out so that the seating became perminant, and not movable?
kodak, xerox, bausch and lomb all come from here. so does paychex, and wegmans. you must be thinking of the state welfare queen, 90 miles west of here, crapalo. home to the only non-championship team in the afc east.
They should've, than the jets would be the only real NYC team. I would imagine if this were to have taken place, many Giant fans would have hopped the bandwagon to the jets do to it's location in the NYC area.
I don't know about Giants fans jumping ship but it would have probably put the Jets over the Giants in New York in general, instead the race will remain close which is still good for the Jets considering the Giants have been around so much longer. Woody took the cheap way out, it's that simple, if he really wanted the Jets back in NY he could have made it happen, if not for Manhatten then there was Queens, there was Long Island, there were other options other then Manhatten or bust, which is what Woodys mindset was, and it busted, now we are still seeing our team play in Jeresey, still sharing with the Giants, and now they'll be having training camp in Jersey as well, whatever, as long as they win I don't really care anymore, I'm tired of bitching about this Jets Stadium issue, been doing it since 1990, by the time there is a Jets only stadium I'll be long dead.:shit:
Count me in, too, and in very much the same way. I remembered it being a night game, and nyjunc corrected me a long time ago on it. I'm rarely wrong on visual recall if it has an emotional imprint, and I distinctly remembered the flood lights at Shea being on. In retrospect it makes sense: it got dark during the game. I should get in the habit of looking stuff up, but I'm too lazy on that. Always will be. Anyway, it was snowing like hell and I started complaining that I was cold and my feet hurt. My Daddy was teed off because the Jets were getting killed, and shot me daggers because he thought I was whining. Well, technically I was, and he HATED that. So I'd go to the bathroom to warm up, come back to the seat, and after a time, I couldn't feel my feet at all. Well, the main reason that game and being run over by O.J. always stuck in my mind is because I had reason to whine, alright. I had frost-bite on some of my toes. I'll never forget my Daddy's face when we got home and I took my boots off. He felt terrible. That's OK. I milked that guilt for years.
Going to Jets games at Shea you were sitting in a haze of marijuana smoke. I remember going there as a kid and seeing what seemed like half the stadium smoking and passing around joints. Ahhh I miss those daze.
Hey, Sean Salsibury said the other day on ESPN radio that the Jets should play a game at Shea! They were talking about that outdoor hockey game a few weeks ago up in buffalo and he said it's great to see old school things in sports, and then said he'd love to see a Jets game at Shea! Maybe he read this thread???It's funny how he said that out of no place.
I'm a Yankee fan but would love to see one more game at Shea. Would be great to see an NFL game in NYC again and beats driving to freakin Jersey.
I believe the majority of Jets fans would love to see a Jets game at Shea, and the fact the team plays in another state also bothers most jet fans. Woody should have built the stadium in Queens, what a fool.
The irony of this idea is that the Jets have never even played a pre-season game at Shea. They used to play them all on the road until Giants Stadium was built in 1976, then they played their home pre-season games there all the way up until they finally moved there for good in 1984.
Exactly....The Met's wouldn't allow them to screw up the field. In fact, we very rarely had an opening Game at Shea , due to BaseBall. I believe the Jets went from 1964(Broncos) till 1978(Dolphins) to have another opening day at Shea
