I can't say how much I love this. Because to me their title this year isn't really tainted given the fact they got caught in the first game, which they would have won anyway even had the Jets been the ones stealing their signals. But I've always felt they were doing this during their other title years, that it wasn't something they just invented last season - and this does taint their other three. Even if I don't see the logic of filming a walkthrough - what's really going to be gained from that? But if they were filming a walkthrough odds were they were filming other stuff too. And the NFL hierarchy can rot too for trying to cover it up the way they did, even if they did slap the Pats on the wrist that's all they did. Some have said they wouldn't have even docked a first-round pick if the Pats didn't have another (better) one anyway. And yeah stealing signs is part of any sport but using technology to do it is over the line.
This story is based on one anonymous source telling a Herald writer about this. By no means am I saying with certainty that this did or didn't happen but I really don't think that one anonymous source "proves" with any authority if the report is true or not. Also, and again this isn't me saying that the Pats didn't necessarily break the rules, can anybody cite a rule that says this was illegal? I've also heard that these practices are open to the media but I haven't been able to find anything to confirm or deny that either.
Martz: Patriots knew what was coming in 2002 Super Bowl Sunday, Feb 3, 2008 8:29 am EST Getty Images New York Daily News columnist Mike Lupica noted in his Sunday Super Bowl column that Mike Martz told ESPN Saturday that in Super Bowl XXXVI, A the St. Louis Rams finally started drawing up red zone plays on the sideline because the New England Patriots kept acting like they knew what was coming. B And while they have denied it, the Patriots may have taped a Rams walkthrough before that Super Bowl game. There is a reason why the Giants moved their training site around this week, and it wasn't because they wanted to see more sites in the desert. Source: New York Daily News Related: New England Patriots, St. Louis Rams Point A If that was the case, why didn't Martz report it if thet were suspicious , its only the superbowl??!!! Or does the old boy network go alot deeper than anyone thought? Point B If found guilty should they lose that title and it be awarded to the Rams? I think it should....ooops down to 2 rings
Check this out from the Daily News: We now have a story from Mike Martz on ESPN Saturday, saying that in Super Bowl XXXVI, the Rams finally started drawing up red zone plays on the sideline because the Patriots kept acting like they knew what was coming. And that the Patriots may have taped a Rams walkthrough before that Super Bowl game. There is a reason why the Giants moved their training site around this week, and it wasn't because they wanted to see more sites in the desert.
I would bet the Pats didn't film the Giants and didn't have their signals. Did the Giants provide proof that cheating mattered in the Pats 3 SB wins? The Pats had the better personal and were thouroughly out coached in yesterdays game. That's something that just never happened before. Coincidence?
