Check one ex-Patriot defensive back off of the list. Will there be another? Hopefully this means no more Abram Elam.
*Insert sarcastic remark about how this signing turns the Jets into Super Bowl contenders here. 'Cause, you know, that didn't get old years ago or anything.*
I don't understand the reasoning behind this. The guy hasn't played since 2006. We have other things to attend to. This is Eric Mangini reaching out to an old player he was familiar with.
He'll make the team. He's familiar with the system. Erik Coleman is leaving...so Hawkins should fill that BACK-UP safety spot nicely. Sadly, I can see Mangini bringing in Eugene Wilson and Asante Samuel as well.
I know Coleman is on his way out, but there is no way you can say Hawkins is making the team, the guy hasn't played football in over a year. His chance is making the team is very slim.
Why? He played REALLY well once he got in the lineup. Our secondary was top notch after he was in the lineup.
Andre Wadsworth part two This is a guy who didn't play a snap last year. I pray this guy doesn't make the team. Then again, let's just trust our excellent coaching staff with personnel decisions. Matt Chatham was key to the 2006 playoff run
Top notch? That's because no one had to throw the ball against the Jets. We rarely had a lead. When a team gives up 134.something yards on the ground a game, their secondary usually looks pretty good.
Having extra players on the roster before training camp isn't always a bad thing. likely he won't make the team, but it doesn't hurt the Jets by signing him.
So what? It's a very minor acquisition that will barely make the slightest difference on the cap. It's not a big deal. Maybe he will pan out and make the team or maybe he'll get cut. Either way, it won't make a big difference. And what's wrong with Abram Elam? He wasn't the savior of the defense, but minus a few bad plays he was a very solid player for us. I hope he gets resigned.
I will agree at Elam does have some potential. If nothing else he could be very effective on Special Teams
