Since Vilma has been given permission to seek a trade this would seem like an ideal trade for both sides. The jets get the big run stuffing NT that they have been searching for, and the lions get a dominant 4-3 middle linebacker.

This would also allow us to move d-rob to DE. Any thoughts?

Look what Gary Grund of JetsCentral had to say:

Lions Would Prefer Rogers Out Of NFC
Saturday, February 23rd 2008, 7:07 pm by Gary Grund

Tom Kowalski of MLive.com reports that four teams have contacted the Detroit Lions regarding a trade for DT Shaun Rogers. Two of them are AFC teams within the same division and they appear to be the front runners. Based on prior speculation, the Broncos and Raiders appear to be those two teams. The article doesn’t state which teams they are however. The source did state that the team would prefer to to trade Rogers to an AFC team.

This is purely my opinion and nothing has linked the Jets to Shaun Rogers in any way, but as rare as player-for-player trades are, a Jonathan Vilma and Shaun Rogers swap would fill holes for both teams. Obviously, it isn’t equal value, but if the Lions were to throw in a mid-round pick in the mix, they would probably have something

If we didn't need him I'd say no way, because Vilma's the man. But in this case I'd say yes, because this is one of our main needs we need to address.

i would actually say this is pretty equal value, both were dominant at one point but for change of scheme, injury or plain lack of intrest both have fallen out of favor with their respective team. I think this would be a good way the jets could save face with this vilma ordeal.

If Vilma is traded for a 3rd round pick like he is rumored to be, There would be a public outcry for manginis head, and this would also be a way to save face for the lions, they would be in the same predicament if they traded shaun rogers for a 3rd round pick.

So i think that this although unlikely might be a decent option to trade shaun rogers for vilma straight up. A move that saves face on both sides, the jets can cliam that they got there answer at NT (which they may have) and the Lions can say that they got someone to build there d around (which we all know they would be getting.)

Peter King thought Rogers could be had for a 4th round pick. However, given his ability, I think a bidding war will definitely drive that price up.

Peter King is a moron. Rogers has plenty of value, and I think Vilma for Rogers straight up is a fair trade for both sides.

I would rather the jets just keep vilma, but obviously since their trying to trade him now, this is the ideal trade for the jets.

I know most of you will disagree, but I would offer Leon for him. Lions need a speed back to complement Kevin Jones, and with Miller coming back next year we don't absolutely NEED Leon's KR skills. In addition, Thomas Jones most likely isn't going to be a dependable starter for more than 2-3 seasons, so I think that THIS is the draft to get the future RB because guys like Mendenhall, Stewart, & Felix Jones, who could fall to our 2nd rounder, could easily be top-10 picks in some RB-weak drafts. With this deal, we'd be able to take McFadden if he fell to 6, and if not, we could take one of the aforementioned 3 guys with our 2nd rounder. I would hate to lose Leon, but I'd rather trade him than Vilma right now.

    Thoughts?

If Stewart falls to our pick, I don't care if your runningbacks are Gale Sayers and Barry Sanders, you take him for pure value.

Thats the most important part of that article. I wouldn't mind seeing this happen, especially if we got a late round pick to sweeten the pot.
