It was a big coup when the Patriots signed Rosevelt Colvin, but that era has come to a close. New England released the linebacker on Tuesday. Drafted by the Bears out of Purdue in 1999, Colvin spent his first four seasons in Chicago and established himself as a pass-rushing threat from his outside linebacker position. He registered 10? sacks in both 2001 and 2002. The Patriots signed the 6-foot-3, 250-pound Colvin as an unrestricted free agent in 2003. He had two sacks in his first two games that season before suffering a hip injury. While he never returned to his original form, Colvin did bounce back to lead the Patriots with seven sacks in 2005 and 8? sacks in 2006. His 52? career sacks rank fifth among active NFL linebackers. Last season, Colvin started 10 of his first 11 games before being shut down with a foot injury. The Patriots also released linebacker Oscar Lua on Tuesday. He missed last season, his first, with a knee injury. Source: ESPN.com Would he be a good pick up??? He is like 31 years old and I think he played inside for the pats for a while went they were thin at the position.
The guy seems like he hasn't played 16 games combined since he signed with the Pats. Screw his oft injured old ass.
He's turing 31 in september. I think he woud be a good pick up. Put him inside and let him cover the Tightends/runningbacks.
He played every single game for the Pats in 2004, 2005, and 2006. I think they should show interest in both Colvin AND Eugene Wilson. I don't care that they're former Patriots, they'd improve the team without question.
Huh? Since when do you: 1. Have enough LB depth if you're running a 3-4 Defense. 2. Not need veteran presence in an increasingly younger locker that's devoid of anyone with Super Bowl experience. 3. Not consider a serviceable veteran who comes from a division rival. 4. Think that the Jets have all of a sudden turned into a team like the Giants with an abundunce of pass rushers in the roster.
Well said Even if they draft Gholston, I don't think anybody can trust Bryan Thomas to be an effective pass-rusher after last year. I think I heard Dyson's name more last season than Bryan "The Ghost" Thomas's.
Gonna have to disagree with the board here. I think Colvin is a good example of a player who has been chewed up through hard-hitting football. He's been very injured this past season. While I agree Bryan Thomas could use as much backup (read: time off the field) as possible, but we need to stop trying to turn the patriot's garbage into gold. After the general mood on the patriots over the past year, I can't imagine their players working very hard for the Jets.
Pats release Colvin Rosey Colvin is available. Do we pick him up? He's got over 50 career sacks, he knows the Patriots playbook, but he's 30 and injury prone. Whaddaya think? ECHO THREAD. My bad.
I disagree. He hasn't really done much in the last couple of years, he's suffered some debilitating injuries and is more like a 35 year old at this point, and there are similar players available in the draft. He'll probably get a fluff deal with no real money. -X-
I would look at this guy, if he comes cheap he could be a real solid complement player to this defense. I just wouldn't splash any kind of big deal on him though since he IS injured so often.
But I don't think we need him to turn into "gold". We need players that are better playing certain roles than what is currently on the roster. In Colvin's case, we need a guy who can come in and put pressure on the passer. He can provide depth on other downs. He can play inside or outside. In other words, he'd play the role that Matt Chatham does right now only Colvin is better.
