disclaimer: this is pure speculation, but he talked about it today on NFL Total Access. Schefter said, in response to a question about the possibility of Favre coming back and being traded, that the Jets could be interested because we wanted him when he first came into the league but went to Atlanta before our pick. he said we poured a lot of money into FA, signing vets and that Favre would fit well with the team's current makeup. and he said that, obviously, the Packers wouldn't want to trade him in the Division or the Conference. so that means the Bears and Vikings - perhaps the two teams in most dire need of a QB - are not an option. thoughts?
I think his reasoning for thinking we'd pick him up is ridiculous I would love to see us pick him up though.
Honestly, I would love to see what Burt the player could do for this team. I am going to say pass, however, because I don't think this young team needs the distraction of Burt the media circus while they all jell and learn the system.
i'd think if they could get him, Pennington would be traded almost instantaneously for something like a 4th and 5th. i doubt the Packers would want him because he probably couldnt handle the adverse weather conditions and downfield throwing the Packers Offense uses, but some other teams would be interested. Schefter didn't say what the Packers would want for Favre, so I'm not sure what the asking-price is.
haha yeah, i think he just threw that in there to make it seem like he had more points to support his claim.
It won't happen. Schefter was giving an example of a team that would need a QB. I can see the Cheifs going after him. Maybe the 49ers? I just couldn't see him in another uniform. It'll be way too wierd. Worse the Emmit Smith in a Cardinals jersey.
How does it work when a player retires - do the packers still own "rights" on him? I remember when Junior Seau retired, he came out of retirement and went to the Pats, but I don't remember any compensation to the Chargers?
I think it depends on the contract length and so forth. Jake Plummer's rights were given to Tampa Bay from the Broncos, but I don't remember any compensation.
The article I read yesterday says he is still under contract with the Packers. If he chooses to unretire, he is still property of the Packers, who hold his rights. The Packers have indicated that they want to move forward with Rodgers, so they don't want him back (according to the article). In order for Farve to get his rights back, he has to write a letter to the Packers asking for his re-instatement. They can either re-instate him as a Packer, or he automatically is released from his contract. This would, however, seriously tarnish his legacy and make both sides look bad.
Here's what I found on rotoworld re: this comment. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pl...news.asp?sport=NFL&id=1744&line=117827&spln=1
Seau actually went to the Dolphins first. I think...if my memory serves me correctly he was either released or signed a one year contract with the Phins that was up. He retired but then the Pats came calling.
nice info. but i don't get why it would tarnish his legacy. it's not like that would take away from anything he accomplished.
He had been released by the SDC & then signed by the blowholes. The blowholes then cut him after a season or 2 & Belly picked him up
thought i smelled you. figures you would say something like this. you complain about the QB's, then if we hypothetically land a top-tier QB, you find something esle to complain about -- before it even happens.
His reasoning behind the speculation is just too ridiculous for me to take seriously. Definitely provided a nice laugh.
Because he would basically be forcing the Packers hand. Not pretty for them if they release him (imagine the backlash in Green Bay). And it makes Burt look like the prevaricating mook that he is.
