I did not say HOF I just OUR WRs are not good enough for us to employ a QB of BF level since we would not max out his abilities.
I am not really sure this would be a good pick up or not. Favre would either be the one year wonder or the one year flop. He would also be costly as in money and a trade, too. I just don't think this is good for us right now. The idea of Favre here is intriguing, but I think it woul be his 18th season or something like that. I think I would hang tight and see if Kellen can take command or we go with Chad and look to get a QB fairly high in the draft next year.
haha...it was the article abyzmul posted yesterday: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=33544
Favre is not going to ruin the end of his career by going to a would-be contender with a poor track record in a major media market and watching things disintegrate around him. The only thing that would make this happen would be if Favre had real money troubles and actually needed one more huge payday and a team like the Jets was the only way to get that at his advanced age. I just don't see it. Joe Namath went to the Rams because he couldn't accept that it was all over and he hated the lousy last 5 years that the injuries caused for him. He was also hoping to get involved in the movie business and getting to LA helped in that regard also.
Well, with our front end rookies not even signed yet and given what we spent in the off-seaason for vets, there is no way we can afford this.
I disagree with you, we may lack game-breaking speed at wideout, but I think both Coles and Cotch have the quickness to exploit d-backs well enough for Favre to squeeze the ball through seams like he does all the time. I think your comment is actually kind of ludicrous. Great QBs make their receivers better. That said, I don't want his media nightmare in NY.
I see your point, but I just wanted to pipe in and say Favre did have some very very good receivers Sterling Sharpe Antonio Freeman Donald Driver Javon Walker Robert Brooks Bill Schroeder Although all of them but only one (Sharpe) in that group was made better because of Favre. Although Favre would have no issues with Coles and Cotchery and I think would love Keller's ability to stretch the field.
I don't buy into Walker, Brooks, Driver or Schroeder as being that far above average; they all have excellent hands and speed, but I think with a less dynamic QB they would suffer a lot. Favre's bullet passes get there in such a hurry that most times a receiver doesn't need to get much separation. I am not saying that they aren't good, but I also don't think they are 'very very good'.
We potentially have a chance (speculated) at a top 10 QB and people are saying they wouldn't want to get him? I'm completely shocked. He'd easily be far better than any QB currently on our roster.
I would love to have Favre IF it looks like Clemens isn't going to be the starter/future. As much of a big Pennington fan I am, I'd rather have Favre, but I'd rather have Clemens if it looks like he has improved and will indeed be our starting QB for the future.
Sorrry we agree to disagree. To me Coles is one hit away from retirement. Cotch maybe a OK possession WR nothing more nothing less. The rest are 2nd tier or lower. Not what I would called a sterling group for a QB of BF abilities
The general consensus over the past few months is that our offense is actually pretty decent but was missing one key cog to take us to the next level..a Quarterback that can make the throws. If you insert Favre into our starting QB position, he instantly makes our offense better and more complete. Granted, he's 200 years old and still needs to learn a new system....but even then, he's still a better option than Chad Pennington..by a longshot. albeit, I wouldn't care for the media circus it creates either, like Abyzmul stated....but i think it would be small price to pay to transform the Jets into instant playoff contenders.
I really hope this is nothing but speculation, honestly. I like Favre a lot, but if we are shopping for a vet QB this far into the offseason, we are in more trouble than I thought.
I don't disagree with you. Very very was a bit of an over statement. I do agree Favre made his receivers better..no doubt about that.
You would be happier than a pig in slop if he came here wouldn't you. I think the WR's would have trouble adjusting to his rocket short passes. Brett doesn't care who he's throwing to. He's gonna gun it no matter what your talent level. But while you might have reason for concern I think Coles and Cotch could do it.
Brett Favre 2007 stats Passing Yards: 4155 Comp %: 66.5 QB Rating: 95.7 TD: 28 Ints: 15 Games Played: 16 Ummm...this should be a no-brainer...despite his age. I bolded the last stat...because his durability is a huge asset and would be a welcomed change-of-pace for the Jets.
While they "may" do it as you posted that would still leave BF at the end of his career throwing to Coles who could be medically retired after the next bang on his head & Cotch who is at best a "possession" WR. If we had the WRs that fitted BF talents I would take him in a flash since who are we looking at noodle arm or KC?
