Actually, both of those guys had much stronger throwing arms than Pennington. Dilfer's arm makes Chad's look like a JV arm, but Dilfer made so many bad decisions that they considered him a bust. The Ravens reined him in and made him play safe.
All of this is your opinion, which along with an EZ Pass will get you through the Lincoln Tunnel. Lashing out at and insulting fans who root for our own players is completely assinine, but that's par for the course for you. None of us are under the impression that Chad is Tom Brady, but he's won here and as long as he's lining up for the Jets at QB I'm a fan. Same with Vinny, O'Brien, Todd, Namath, whoever. If Clemens gets the job, great, as long as we win. But that won't stop you guys from rambling on with your hateful bullshit, thankfully you don't run the team. All of you scholars were convinced Chad wouldn't even be on the roster by now, but he's coming to another camp and still making $7 million or whatever it is. That must really piss you off, huh?
Did you just call yourself assinine? I love the blanket statements like 'he won here' when in defense of the games he lost he is mainly in your eyes completely blameless. And, when you say 'you guys rambling on with your hateful bullshit', are you talking about 'fans who root for our own players'? I will root for Chad as our QB if he is starting, I just don't think he is an option for the future of the team. He has played himself into being a stopgap.
I'm talking about people who hate him so much they won't root for the Jets if he's playing, or would rather lose just to have anyone else in there. To ridicule people as "player-fans" or "Chad Fans", as you and others are doing here, is just stupid. We're Jet fans. I rooted for fucking Bubby Brister when he was here, doesn't mean I'm waiting for him to go into the Hall of Fame. If he's the best guy we have on game day, put him in and I'll root for him. Some of you guys struggle to make that distinction. Nobody is excusing Chad from blame when he plays badly, but if he were the one holding the team back we'd have never won with him. Fact is we've made the playoffs three times in six seasons with him and three times in sixteen seasons before him. By Jets standards that is winning. The QB usually gets too much credit and blame, but you guys go overboard with the Chad stuff. If he couldn't throw the ball he wouldn't still be on an NFL roster making the money he's making. The future is the next game, that's up to the coaches and management. Obviously they thought there wasn't anybody out there better than the two guys we have, so they kept those two guys. Again, I want to win whoever plays. The only reason Chad is divisive to fans is that there's a segment of you guys who hate him so much you want him gone and you have to pick fights with anyone who doesn't agree with you. Take it up with Tannenbaum and Mangini. The day he goes to the Dolphins I'll hate him too.
Right, so it's okay to blanket-label people who don't think Chad has a future with the team as hate-mongers, but it's stupid to do the opposite. More hypocrisy. Nice. All we see when Chad makes bad decisions is deflection of blame from you and others. I want to see what Kellen can do, because I don't think Chad can do it anymore, at least to the level that we need him to. And you're right, that is my opinion, just like whatever you post is your opinion. Just like every other person on this board. You can bring up his record for QBing when the team has made the playoffs, but I can do that with Kurt Warner and his Super Bowl ring, and it doesn't make him any more suited to lead a team to the Super Bowl. At some point players lose what they had, whether it be mental or physical, whether it be discipline or skill. I think the reason why Chad is so divisive to fans (my opinion, just like you posted your opinion above) is because we are tired of waiting for him to become 2002 Chad, or better. For that entire time, while I was happy with how he did in '02, I thought he had a long way to go to be a QB that could handle his duties well enough to challenge for a championship. Instead of improving upon 2002, he has regressed since then. We are never going to get 2002 Chad Pennington back. I don't hate him, I think he is a great guy who brings a lot to the table of an NFL team, but he is not the guy I want under center when we are playing for our playoff lives and we are down 6 points with 1:48 left in the 4th quarter. His pressure play is what has suffered the most over the years. I don't think he can improve upon 2002. By the way, you have picked more fights on this argument that anyone on this board, it makes me wonder if you even think about this stuff before you click 'Submit'.
I doubt that, I avoid the whole topic most of the time because that 8-month gap between games makes this kind of thing awful repetitive. If you made more cohesive arguments like this one above I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's when you start with the homo man-love remarks and saying he can't throw the ball 10 yards that shit comes back your way, because that stuff is just stupid. Whether Pennington can still play remains to be seen, he was never a big armed physical QB in 2002. His game is running the offense with accuarcy and smarts, but you still need blocking and a running game. Last time he had one or the other was 2006 and we went 10-6 with him. Maybe Clemens makes it a moot point, if he's ever going to be a star QB this is as good a time as any to prove it.
every QB needs to run an Offense with accuracy and smarts. but everyone keeps saying the team lacks this or that, which prevents Chad from leading the team. many teams have deficiencies that the QB's must overcome, and many times they don't. but you can still see those QB's have what it takes, unlike Chad. the Bengals - as a team -always lack something, yet Carson Palmer is a top-teir QB. the Eagles need to improve, but McNabb clearly has enough skills that i'd want him as my starter. the Seahawks don't have a complete team that's a sureshot contender, but Hassleback has the tools. chances are, you're not going to have a complete team for the QB to work with. so that means the QB has to put the team on his shoulders and overcome the deficiencies. it's obvious Chad can't do that, otherwise the supporters wouldn't be saying, "he needs a running game, he needs more weapons, he needs this and that." i want a QB who has the skillset and toughness that allows him to play at a high level when all of the components aren't there; clearly, that's not Pennington.
Listen, Chad is a great guy, and I appreciate his hunger to play the game. But lets be realistic. We talk about 2002 like he was playing in god mode. We were so sick of Vinny we hailed this guy as a savior. 2002? Let's talk about that. Let's talk about his performance in the playoff loss... Loss - 30 to 10. Mr. Accuracy has a 45% completion rate, 183 yards, no touchdowns, 1 interception, and 2 fumbles. He had Coles, Moss, and Chrebet to throw to, not to mention Anderson and Martin. 2003 - 4 wins and 6 losses after coming back from injury. 2004 - Lose to Steelers on another 0 TD 1 INT performance throwing for 182 yards. 2005 - 1 win and 2 losses before he's out for the season. 2006 - Honestly the best season of his career. He even played well in the playoff loss to the Pats. With that said he still threw for barely over 200 yards a game and had a 1-1 TD to INT ratio. The horrendous games he had in Chicago and Buffalo late in the season cost us home field advantage against the Pats. When that's the best season of your career, you really shouldn't be a starter in the NFL. 2007 - 1 win and 8 losses. The win against a team that won 1 game all season. 1-1 TD to INT ratio again. 2-3 pick 6 beauties. Less than 200 yards a game. Yeah, the team stunk, but that doesn't just give him a pass. I was a huge supporter of his until I really took a look at reality.
In 2002 I was on cloud 9, just like every other Jets fan 8-3 after taking over for Vinny, betting the colts 41-0 in the Meadowlands. My hopes were sky high. Then came the debacle in Oakland. He looked like a lost little boy out there. Yeah, his stats were bad, but if he showed some fire, if he showed some heart, I could have said, oh well, we'll get em next year, after he gains some experience. Instead I saw a scared little boy in a QB's body. He actually looked lost and afraid, not knowing where to turn. Then I knew he was not "the guy". I've seen enough special players to recognize one. You can't tell when everything is going great. You can tell a mans heart only when the chips are down. Chad, we found out about you in Oakland. Now i know i will get plenty of people delaring how Chad plays hurt and that displays heart. I conceed he does play hurt and if that is what defines heart for you then he has loads. For me, heart is the attitude that "hey, this is my field, you only play on it. I am going to take what I want, so kiss my ass". Chad does not have the balls to do that against the good teams. When it's easy, he is a start. When it takes balls, heart, whatever you want to call it, he can't get it done. Add that to his deminished physical skills and... why is he still on this team again. And yes, this is only my opinion.
If that is what you want to call it. More the it than the wow factor. Maybe it is just confidence and swagger. The balls to challenge the best and the talent and heart to back it up. I just don't see that in Chad. Even before he was hurt. Has he won some big games fir us? Yes, of course. But I can't recall any where it wasn't wire to wire. Where he had to fight and bring back our team from behind against a good aggressive D in a big spot. The world famous San Diego Wild Card game in 2004 I suppose. the one signature game of his career.
