How do you teach passion (I think Chad has that anyway...that may be all he has left)? How do you teach physical necessities? How do you teach playoff experience? Those just seem like things that you either have, or don't.
you teach by example....you watch the demeanor of Favre, how he anticipates the game, how he conducts himself on and off the field....those are just a few examples i could think of off the top of my head. Not everything is X's and O's. you're right about Physical necessities....that can't be taught...unless Favre has a training regimen/discipline that he could pass on to Clemens...there must be something he does to keep himself in great physical shape to be able to play at a high level this late in his career.
To hell with Favre. The ass gave away a Jet record to his good golfing buddy. I never ever want to see Favre as a Jet.
I can't believe people actually think it is a good idea for a 4-12 rebuilding team that needs to find a long-term answer at QB and needs to find out if its young QB can playto rent a 40 year old QB for 1 year. How does this advance the Jets rebuilding plan? Please have some foresight and look beyond 2008 just a little bit. And for those who think Favre will be a mentor, ask Aaron Rodgers how much Favre has prepared him to take over. Let's build a team here and not go for quick, meaningless fixes to satisfy some people's need for instant gratification. We will be sitting here one year from now with Favre retired and still not knowing if the Jets have a QB on the roster or not, nor whether they need to draft a QB. Snap out of it!!!
Didn't Favre refuse to be a mentor to Aaron Rodgers? I have never been a huge fan of Favre (although I recognize why he is great) and have come to be disgusted with his annual "will he or won't he" charades. What makes anyone think that he will go to any team and put any effort into helping another QB become better. Favre seems to be all about Favre, and I'd rather we stick with what we have.
I think this is the essence of it. The only way the Jets would ever consider something like this would be if they are convinced that Clemens is not the answer. If they have already made that decision, then sure, bring in Favre, since they will be drafting or trading for a young QB after 2008 anyway, and it would certainly be more fun to watch Favre behind center than to watch Pennington. If they still think that Clemens could possibly be the long-term answer for the team this is a terrible idea, since it sets the team back one year and leaves them in QB limbo (which is why playing Pennington is also a bad idea if they think Clemens has any shot).
If Favre was on this team, we would have a shot at the superbowl assuming all the FA pickups work out and there are no major injuries. So I don't think it would be a meaningless quick fix. Your point about Clemens is a good one however; if Pennington wins the QB competition we're left in the same boat (not knowing about our QB) but with no shot at the title this season IMO.
Signing a HOF QB who is just coming off a conference championship game is not a quick fix. You snap out of it.
This has been my feeling all along. That and the media circus will seriously hamper young player development and team chemistry. The only way I'd be for it is if he was the final piece in the puzzle...kind of like the 2007 Bears.
Brett apparently prefers to see himself as a doer not a teacher. When he's been asked about Aaron Rodgers in the past, he's been characteristically succinct: "He sees me, what I do." Brett appears to be somebody who doesn't like to over-analyze or over-verbalize stuff. While he may agonize about his own "will I or won't I?" issues, that's not his strong suit when it comes to emulators, if you listen to what he means by his mono-syllabic avoidance. This guy's a wild mustang who has a lot of gray in his mane. If he goes to work again it will be to break his own stone, not some "student". If you look at the increasing, inevitable limitations of Brett -- as magnificent as he is -- the Green Bay Packers have built a great running game and a pretty damned good defense to make their accommodation to Brett's vertical down-the-field strengths positive contributions to their ability to perform. Take a look at their receivers -- they are down-the-field speedsters, deep threats, Jennings and Driver are inside-slant demons -- maybe actually better than Marvin Harrison used to be before his balky knee finally blew up for keeps (God, I hope not). I know ya'll would love for Brett to work his magic on our behalf, and it's a helluva pipe dream, I sure grant you that. But, it just takes too much opium to believe in it, Boys and Girls....! We are just so much better off with our Kellen and Chad plus grab bag, and a team of up-and-comers working hard to integrate into a winning machine. We don't need no fucking stars, man! We need team.
You know, Mr. Abyzmul, my football coach in high school warned me about peanuts. He seriously believed that eating peanuts shortened your breath and inhibited your athletic ability. Now, I don't know where the hell he got that. Obviously, you don't believe in his prejudices and I say that's just as well. But I will say that he was responsible for my winning a full grant-in-aid. So, I don't know. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I would watch those boiled ones, if I was you...
No sir, Mr. Abyzmul, I have, to this day, a problem with boiled peanuts. They be too damned salty for my tastes. However, those dry, over-cooked roasted ones, now there's an exception. Yes Sir.
I can't for the life of me remember your username before you got banned. I remember your schtick, though.
