Memo to Can'O'Lardo... it's called GASTRIC BYPASS. What a moron this guy is.

TIME FOR JETS TO GIVE JONES THE BALL

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/10152008/sports/jets/time_for_jets_to_give_jones_the_ball_133649.htm

MEMO to Jets New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer: Feed Thomas Jones the ball.

Jones is hungry for more carries, though he'll never say that publicly, and he's the type of running back who gets better with more carries. The more carries Jones gets the better rhythm he gets into and the more his punishing running style wears down opposing defenses.

This is not a knee-jerk reaction to his career-high three-touchdown game in the Jets' win over the Bengals on Sunday. This is a problem that has been brewing for a while and it's more a product of the variety of choices Schottenheimer has to dial up as he calls plays each week.

In fairness, he has a lot from which to choose and he's constantly trying to find the right combinations.

For example, Leon Washington, one of the Jets' few game-breakers, needs to get his touches, otherwise the chance he might break one for a touchdown is wasted.

The Jets have some strong receivers who can make big plays, such as Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles. They, too, like to get receiver Brad Smith, another potential game-breaker, into the mix.

And they have to let Brett be Brett, so Brett Favre needs to be able to air it out, otherwise they're wasting a Hall of Fame quarterback with a rocket arm.

Where has that left Jones, the Jets' feature back? Lost in space at times.

The Jets had a good opportunity to pound the Bengals' defense, which entered the game ranked 29th in the league in stopping the run, into submission Sunday.

Instead, they opted for a lot of misdirection plays and other trickery to take advantage of the aggressively pursuing Cincinnati defensive backs. It worked to a degree - mostly thanks to some terrific yards-after-catch by Cotchery.

The Jets find themselves in a bit of a quandary in that they geared so much of their offseason plans toward building a better offensive line to become a more smash-mouth running team with Jones the star of the show.

Then Favre fell into the Jets' lap in the middle of training camp and sent the entire program into a major reprogramming.

Wasn't he one of the ones crying to throw the ball with Favre 4 weeks ago?

No, it's time to give CHATMAN the ball. He looked great in pre season...strong and tough. Jones has weaknesses. Poor vision for one. It's time for Chatman!

We'll eventually need a running game, particularly in the winter months where you need more smash mouth football. Favre had no issues with handing the ball off to Ahman Green or Ryan Grant. You just have to find the right mixture. Except for a couple nice goal line runs, our RBs still struggled to pick up yardage against a very weak Bengals Run D.

Yea Chapman looked great against 3rd string defenses and defensive players that could not even make it on an NFL team. No thanks.

    TJ all the way!!

Hate to give a guy a chance who looked great in preseason. That would be terrible!

    It's Chatman btw.

Give him a chance? Sure give him a chance, 4-5 touches a game, maybe. We have two solid running backs with TJ and LW, why are we trying to find carries for our 3rd string running back? Thats only going to take away from our passing game, and theres no way our coaching staff takes carries away from Leon and TJ and gives them to Chatman. No chance.

I watched Jessie Chatman last year down here in South Florida many times, he's nothing more then a solid backup. Was I happy when we signed him? Heck yea I was, he's a solid backup to Leon and TJ. Nothing more, give him maybe 3-5 touches a game, I'll leave it at that.

JetsfanWaiting I'm sorry but it's time for Chatman and Leon to split the carries. Both are much better RB's than Big biceps Jones

This irrational love for Chatman on this board has to be checked. Enough with Chatman already. Can we see him get some carries against 1st string defenses before we make him out to be Earl Campbell?

The Jets need to stop attacking the sidelines on offense and tune up the volume of play calls that go straight down the field, with both runs and passes. With all the "cute" plays they run they always put themselves in a position where they need to throw to get out of a bind. This won't work against the better teams.

Thomas Jones should be getting more touches, and they should be straight up the gut, right in the face of our opponents.

Chatman doesn't need to see the carries, because when Jones is put in the right position he does extremely well.

You say Jones needs to be put in the right position to succeed, right after you say he should be sent up the gut???? That's his main weakness, the majority of times they send him between the tackles he makes practically nothing out of it. He excels to the outside, if we're going to put him in the right position, it's East-West runs.

    Nope I don't think that's true.

If it were true, then you would know that Chatman had his best game when he touched the ball 32 times and amassed 149 yards. You'd also know that in a four game stretch against the Giants, Patriots, Bills and Eagles, he picked up 397 yards. PLAYING FOR THE 2007 MIAMI DOLPHINS.

Those are not back up numbers. But they are just numbers. They don't describe what Chatman looked like in those games, which was a fierce, bruising, between-the-tackles workhorse.

So I get to say "Pass the damn ball, morons!" one week, then say "Run the ball, idiots!" the next week with impunity if I become a beat writer? What a great job it is! I can never get wrong with this, really.

This is the wrong week to stop sniffi^H^H^H^H^H^H passing the ball. We should be able to light up Oakland's secondary. Lets get a three score lead, then hand the ball to TJ, or Leon, or Brad Smith, or Mangini, whatever.

I don't often agree with Cannizzaro but I have not seen the Jets give TJ the ball 20 times consistently. I would like to see a nice mix of deep passing and running. It would be nice know we could play ball control if we needed it. TJ should be able to do this.

RBBCs don't often have one runningback getting over 20 touches. The fact that they aren't giving Jones 20+ touches tells me they don't think he is a feature back.

I happen to agree with them.

Why not, it seems like David Clowney is seen here as the next Jerry Rice.

hahaha. Another prime example of fan idiocy on this board. People are so bad at looking individual pieces of information WITHIN THE CONTEXT of all the other pieces of information. So, for example, someone sees that Clowney catches two bombs in a preseason game against a secondary comprised of 2nd and 3rd string players, and only focuses on the two touchdowns ignoring the CONTEXT in which the touchdowns were scored. It's so irrational, it's actually pathetic. Yes, Clowney and Chatman look like they may be promising players, however, FAR too little is known to be able to suggest that either should be starting or even receiving playing time during the games that count against 1st string defenses. I'll trust Mangini and the rest of the coaching staff to properly evaluate the players they spend an inordinate amount of time with.

Yeah, because we're excited to see someone with game breaking speed who showed promise in training camp and preseason on the field we think he's Jerry Rice.

What is so ludicrous about thinking someone who did well in training camp and preseason may do well in a real game? There is no way to know what they will do in a real game against 1st string defenses without seeing them play against #1's. The guy showed a lot of potential that fans are excited about and hope can translate to game day. I guess that makes us a bunch of irrational idiots. If Clowney comes out in his first game and burns the defense for a deep TD, will we still be a bunch of irrational idiots? Obviously the CS saw something to keep these guys on the active roster given there circumstances preventing them from playing for at least 1/4 of the season.

What seems more irrational to me is people reading someone expressing excitement about seeing someone get a chance on the field and projecting that into a completely false exaggeration.

I say give it a shot, you've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain. Problem is, my grandma can run on KC, so i would'nt judge him against them.
