Pretty nasty hit he took when he was driven head-first into the turf. He seemed a little wobbly getting up and I wonder if that silly offsides penalty was due in no small part to the fact that he wasn't really with it for the rest of the game. I'll say it again- he's one good blow to the head away from never suiting up for an NFL game.
I thought his career was over when I saw that. He had to have been concussed again. It looked like Chrebet but not quite as bad.
He did look pretty banged up...Whats interesting is that if you watched on TV, coles was signaling Mangini when he walked off the field, saying it was a good catch. Of course, the Genius never threw a flag. I wouldn't be surprised to see Coles out of the game Sunday against the Chiefs.
No, you're right...but I was saying that more as to the state of mind Coles was in...He actually thought he caught it.
The real criminal here is that rocket armed QB who's going to get our WR's killed!!! Just look at him throwing that ball into those tight coverages at the last second and causing Coles to have his head buried in the sand... He's going to die and the blood will be on Favre's hands!!! :breakdance: Hopefully Coles will be able to wipe the cobwebs out of his head with no long term issues. He doesn't have many more of those kind of hits left in him.
There's no way he should have been back in the game yesterday after that hit. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the end for him. Why does this always happen to Jets receivers?
I agree, he should have sat the rest of that one out, but I guess he really wanted to win. We had little hope of anything going right at that point, much less without him in there. I appreciate the extra effort, but I do wish these guys would look after their own welfare where the head injuries are concerned.

Thought same thing...... Anyone hear the announcer not sure of the game that (it might have been Fouts douring our game) mention that when a team signs a player to a 3rd contract that is usaully winds up biting the team in the ass in the end. This is Coles 3rd contract......
The truth is either QB, strong or weak armed is likely to put their fair share of receivers in the dirt. That was always my argument then. Not that Penny wasn't guilty of it, just that he wasn't any more or less guilty than any other QB. It sucks to see our guys get pounded like that, but its always been a part of the game as well.
We have too many posession receivers. Coles, Cotchery, Stuckey. We need more of the downfield threat receivers. When they get hit, its more of a cb and safety hitting them as opposed to some linebackers over the middle. randy moss, chad johnson, to, fitzgerald...theyre all healthier bc they have the speed and height to help them not got punished. boldin gets blugeoned bc hes that posession type receiver. I beleive a 1st-3rd pick should be used on that type of reciever in the draft next yr. our biggest need is a good NT for when jenkins is out, a wideout, a DE and a RB. Once we get those things, our team will be in that top 10 discussion
Well, if Coles is a scratch for Sunday, maybe we can see Clowney come back and play in a real game? See if the preseason was just luck, or maybe he is better than most think? Also maybe we can get Stuckey more involved in the slot. And perhaps our "burner" of a tight end Keller (who can cause mismatches all over the field when being covered by a linebacker, or safety, but I have yet to see this????) can get involved in the game plan a bit more??
I'm not so sure it was Chad's arm that put our possession WR in harm's way, in so much as the types of routes our WR's run. Under this offense our WR's run lots of 1 zone routes. Meaning their routes are quick curls, slants or hitches...How many times can we say that we have seen a WR run underneath the coverage or a crossing route? These are routes that ask for a WR to run away from the defender and ask for the QB to hit them on the run. Not much.... These were a staple of the Packers offense and we have not intergrated that into our play book with a stroing armed QB. Don't believe me go check out the Packers, Colts game yesterday...The Packers WR's were running crossing patterns that allowed them to run and use their speed all day.
Funny you mention our WR's routes...Everytime I go from watching the Jets game, to another game on CBS or FOX, it seems as if we're playing on a field that is 40yds shorter, and 20yds narrower than any other team in the NFL. We rarely have plays with WR's streaking downfield, or inbetween a cover 2 blanket. So I'm not sure if its our personnel, or our OC's playbook?
It happens to a lot of WRs, it's the nature of the position, regardless of who the QB or the team is. Also, how many games in a row does Dick Enberg have to do before he can tell Coles from Stuckey?
