Yes, I think I feel more confident about Jay Feely than I did with Nugent. The kick offs are actually reaching the endzones now. Anyhow, so what happens once Nugent is healthy? These damn kickers are all head case. When they get hot, they can kick the snot out of the ball, but once they start losing their confidence their career goes down the drain. I feel Nugent has lost a lot of the confidence that he had during his college career.
idk why he doesnt just fuckin put nug on IR, carrying two kickers is the most redic shit ever. Put the guy on IR and carry an extra OL, DB, or WR. WTF is the point of keeping him on the active roster, its a waiste IMO.
I like both...I'll take whichever one is hot and healthy at that moment in time. Right now it's Feely.
I don't think either is really that impressive to be honest. Feely has made some nice field goals but also missed some bad ones. I wish we could find a kicker with equivalent accuracy to both of these guys, and a leg that can consistency reach the back of the endzone on kickoffs to boot.
I'd go with Feely. It's nice to see kicks booted out of the endzone, and it's also nice to see big kicks from further out. I pretty much expect Feely to nail big kicks now.
I definitely don't think the coach can switch back to Nugent until Feely really screws up. He did really well the last game, but I just feel like if he starts missing 30 yarders again then Nugent is going to be switched in real fast. There's no way Nugent is still injured, Mangini has just chosen to go with Feely at the moment.
Feely is the hot hand(leg) at the moment. Stick with the hot hand until it is no longer hot. He seems to be feeling the heat from Nugents imminent return and is responding.
I just looked up a random 2005 mock draft and Nugent was actually projected to go in the 2nd to the Minnesota Vikings by these guys: http://www.footballsfuture.com/2005/mock2nd2005.html
Kickers are golfers with weird hats that obstruct their vision. Of course half their game is mental, thats what golf is all about. You heard it here first, several times a game the football is interupted for golf.
I agree, don't fix if it ain't broke. Feely actually gives me a bit more confidence then Nugent right now. Plus his kickoffs have been great. Kickers are strange, I have a bad feeling if Nuge comes back he will feel a bit too much pressure seeing how successful Feely was and notbe right. They should IR him and use the roster spot on a RB or another safety. Feely hit the big kick on Oakland on the road, which proved a lot to me (even though it was after the boneheaded Cable time out) On a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH smaller scale, this is like Brady-Bledsoe. If a guy is getting it done, don't change it bacsed on how much he makes or where he was drafted. Let the beter guy continue and right now, the better guy is Feely.
I trust Feely more. He's solid, yeah he got his feet wet now in NY and seems more comfortable. I mean last season in Miami he only missed 2 FGs for Miami, one of them in that slush game at Pittsburgh? The ONLY issue I think is when he goes on like First Take and comments on a lot of different things and issues as a kicker...
This makes no sense. You got your own scenario (which premises the kicker's mental approach to the game), backwards, it should be golf (thinking about making a kick) is interrupted by football (actually executing the kick in the game)...
Just because somebody else was going to make a ridiculous maneuver, doesn't make it right. Plus, don't forget that draft we traded our number 1 for Doug Jolley. It was and still is a terrible move by the organization...
I've never been a Nugent fan, so it's easy to predict what my answer would be. Feely has been good. Not great, but very good. His kick offs are making a difference on special teams, and his FGs are significant as well. Let's remember, he's sent us to overtime already, and yesterday, his record-tying kick was the effective nail-in-the-coffin against the Rams. He's no Janikowski, but I'll take Feely over Nugent any day.
I hate kickers. I fear that our season will come down to a missed FG by one of the two non-football players on the roster.
