i have recently seen/heard some theories about how the jets can get the #1 seed if they beat the titans but lets be realistic here folks. - oops i might get flamed for being realistic here, huh?? the better shot is at the #2 seed, even if we somehow win in TN. IMO the teams to watch are the steelers and colts with a lazy eye on the broncs and ravens. looking at conference records the steelers are 6-1 which will likely be 7-1 after tonite. thats gonna be a tough mark for the jets to overtake but the steelers do have NE, TN, and the ravens on their schedule so they may reach 4 losses. the colts, though not getting first place still have a 5-2 record in the AFC but with an easier conference schedule that includes cleveland and cincy. if they get clipped at SD on sunday nite that would be good. the broncs have a 3-4 AFC record which will likely be 4-4 after sunday. the game with the jets will have a direct impact on playoff standings and it would be nice if we came out on top. i have a feeling TN will be ripe for a divisional round upset so seed #2 obviously would benefit from that. gotta watch the steelers and hope the jets continue to win. i do not think 11-5 gets the#2. 12-4 likely will. intelligent thoughts always appreciated. do not bother posting crap or non-sense or insults cause my response will likely get us all banned. jil
The key with Pittsburgh is they have a difficult schedule down the stretch. If the Jets can play strong they can finish a game ahead and secure the #2 seed.
The difference between a shot at the one seed and the two seed is the game against the Titans. If we need to go 12-4 to get the two seed but losing to the Titans is acceptable then beating the Titans and getting to 13-3 gives us a decent shot at the first seed, doesn't it? Unless the belief is that somehow winning one game directly leads to losing other another game(s).
Do you see the JETS going 5-1 over the next 6? I can see them going 4-2 realistically, unfortunately their hardest matchups are conference games, but their "easy" games are on the west coast. Hopefully they take care of business the next 2 weeks (and then Miami to finish)
I agree that the #2 is realistically all we can hope for but that would be fine. A bye in the playoffs is huge and I could care less if we had to play the Titans in Tennessee. For us to get the #2 means we already beat them there once this year.
The Jets don't have to worry about the Colts. They can do no better than the 5 seed, unless the miraculously catch the Titans, which is not happening. 12-4 would definitely get the Jets the #2 seed, and 11-5 is an outside shot, but Pittsburgh would need to go 1-3 in their upcoming difficult stretch (@NE, Dal, @Bal, @TN). I think they go 2-2, which means the Jets would need to get to 12 wins for the bye.
thanks for this post. i was pretty sure we didnt have to worry about the colts for #2 seed because theyd be a wild card unless something happens to TN but this helped confirm that... im really really hoping for a bye for selfish reasons. ill be traveling during the first round of the playoffs, and while finding a sports bar may be possible where i'll be, i know it wont make the people im traveling with happy!!
Getting the #1 would mean that a) We beat the Titans - possibile. b) The Titans go 3-2 or worse over there last 5 games. Possible but highly unlikely considering they haven't lost yet. If we beat the Titans we have a real good shot at the #2. If we lose to the titans, as someone else pointed out we'd probably have to win out the rest of the season to get to 12-4. I'd be very happy with either scenario. If we can beat the Titans on Sunday I'll be more stoked than I was when Brady had his knee broken in half.
The Titans have a rough road ahead...the Lions suck ass but the Browns have played contenders tough (Giants, Broncos, Bills)...and then division game against the Texans...then the Steelers...then the Colts... If we beat them, we have a legit shot at the #1 seed...I know I'm shooting for the stars but thats mostly cause I wouldn't be devastated if we only got the #2 seed. I can see the Titans possibly losing 2 or 3 of those last few games...dude can hope I guess.
Hey, this is the optimistic viewpoint. After today, we'll be favored in every one of our last five games. I even saw an early line of Jets -6 against Denver for next week. I think we can slay the Titans. If we can do that, there is no reason we can't get the #2 seed unless Pittsburgh keeps rolling.
We have a trip to Disney with the kids set up (by my wife) for the weekend of the second round. So if we do get the bye and the home game that week I'll probably miss going to it. I'll need a win and a home game for the AFC Championship to make a playoff game. That or a #3 or #4 seed so we're home in the first round, but I'd rather get the #2 and see it on TV. They have TVs and bars at Disney, don't they?
appreciate the civil discussion..... whats wrong with a little speculating at this point? whether or not we have the division, it doesn't matter. i think we go 4-2 down the stretch for 11-5; losses against the titans and ?????? hopefully its not a division game cause that would give us the AFC title. if its a non-division game that would mean either the hawks, broncs, or 49ers. of course the broncos game has major seed implications. if we lose to the hawks or 49ers, the reaction around here will dwarf the soap opera after the raider game, and rightfully so. just imagine if we had beaten the raiders.........aarrgghh - same ole jets jil
of course she booked this vacation immediately after the raider game...... my annual disney trip is not until April, way before the draft. jil
This seems like the early "We lost to the titans, how do our playoff chances look now?" thread. It is too early for that.
She books things completely unaware of the NFL schedule, even though she likes to go to the games with me. That's just her, she'll plan three things for the same day and then have to cancel two of them. I knew the conflict but at the time figured a home game in the second round isn't something I really needed to plan around, considering we've only had one in the history of the franchise.
