This poor, frustrated franchise is about to step right into our wheelhouse. Seriously, I can't think of a winning team we match up with better. One-on-one match-up between Revis and Marshall. Ty Law jamming Eddie Royal at the line every play. Kris Jenkins mauling that offensive line. If they get twenty yards rushing it'll be because Jay Cutler was running for his life. On offense? Shit, we can do just about anything we want. The match-up I most look forward to? DeWayne Robertson vs. Alan Faneca. I like that in a three week span we've played/will play the team that took Clement and Hobson, the team that took Justin McCareins and the team that took Dewayne Robertson. On another note, I miss the look-alike threads. Then again, why add insult to injury?
This game scares me. This is a CLASSIC Jets trap game. 5 straight wins...2 straight big time road wins in a row. Now we play an inconsistent 6-5 team..w/ a passing game that can hurt you if you dont stay focused. I keep telling people that I wont proclaim this team for real until the Denver game is over and we have won. It scares me more than both New England and tennesee. BTW, D rob has owned Faneca throughout his career.
The Matchup they have is a potentially very good passer VS our defense that can get beat up by a team that can pass a lot and has a GREAT TE and a bunch of good WR's... If they get on a roll and run the Hurry Up offense they can roll up points and yards as easy as Matt Cassel did... The defense isn't that good but, make a few mistakes and a turnover or two and it could be a rout. Again, our offense needs to control the clock.
This seems like a game we will dominate but thats just not the case with us. Definately a "Trap Game" Denver has a average defense at best , An there running game isn't nothing great. They can throw with the best of them and thats what scary. If we can get pressure on Cutler and kill the Pass game then where in great shape. As i think our Run D will overpower then running game and our Offense does match up great with there's but this cant be looked at with ease.
200+ yards rushing should be the Jets goal. Pound the ball, then pound the ball some more. Control the clock.
This is going to be a special game for me. My wife and father-in-law are Broncos diehards. My wife and I will be in NY for Thanksgiving and then my father-in-law is flying in to go to the game with us and my dad on Sunday. Needless-to-say, I really, really, hoping for a complete ass-kicking.
Yes, i feel the same way. It could possibly end up like the chargers game. same type of quaterback as rivers.
My only two concerns going into this game is : Has Kris Jenkins ankle healed? Has shanahan learned from Belichick ( pass defense issues we have)? Our defense has been torched when the no huddle shot gun has been used. It seems we don't know where to put our guy's and Calvin pace in an coverage ....Scary!
The Broncos match up with us better than the Titans do! That passing attack can be nasty. This will not be an easy game, but if we control the clock and keep the pressure on Cutler it should be a win. The Jets can put a strangle hold on the division with a win this week and a Pats loss vs. Pitt.
A couple of things... When Denver went spread / no huddle against Cleveland they looked awesome. But, Shanahan (perhaps b/c he know they'll need to be able to run in the playoffs) doesn't seem to want to go to that too frequently. Let's hope he doesn't change his mind this week. Also, not sure who was watching Broncos-Raiders, but Cutler took a pretty good shot in the first quarter (roughing the passer was called) that he was slow to get up from and didn't seem right the rest of the game. Nothing on any injury, but he may be a little "dinged up."
No reason why the Jets should not win this game. My only fear is that Denver will be fired up after choking at home to the Raiders but, still, they just don't have the talent. We can run all over them - that much is for sure. They just can't stop the run. The friggin Raiders just ran all over them. Favre will do the things he does to keep the offense on the field. We will shut down their mediocre running game. Our special teams will dominate as always. The only thing they'll be able to do against us is pass, pass, pass. That's fine by me - bring it on. As long as they don't break a big play, I hope Cutler keeps airing it out. He better stay accurate or we'll capitalize.
Agreed. This is NOT a game where we should just walk in and whoop ass. Cutler, that offense, and Shanahan will be prepped to play us...especially after losing to fucking OAKLAND. We can beat them, but this team better not slack because of two big wins.
I think they are hesitant b/c of a few factors... A. Shanahan has always been a "run first" kinda coach B.Cutler has a habit of throwing interceptions in bunches C. They have some young O-linemen....the last thing you wanna do is hang them out to dry w/ constant pass protection Last week may have been the week we turned the corner w/ our pass coverage. Sure the Titans dropped a few...but for the most part coverage was pretty good. I've been saying for awhile now that if you have a shutdown corner(Revis), a good pass rush(statistically we are top 5) a good run D(enough said) you will EVENTUALLY figure out a way to have quality pass coverage. Looks like that is happening. Still this IS the jets...and I still feel like this is a trap game.
I would caution against overconfidence. We lost to Oakland, remember? Key matchup: Denver's passing attack, their strength, specifically with the intermediate to deep balls to Royal / Marshall / Stokely / Scheffler vs. our pass D, which has been our Achilles heel all year, especially late in games and when opposing offenses go 5-wide / empty backfield. That being said, I think the only way we lose this game is if we beat ourselves.
A few fun facts about Denver: 7th worst in the league in time of possession 5th worst in the league in total points given up 5th worst in the league in yards given up per game 4th worst in the league in yards given up per play
I'm shocked at how many people are afraid of the Denver game next week. First of all, Denver's defense is AWFUL. They can't get off the field on third down and their run defense is among the worst in football. (Their D-line is terribly undersized) As the Jets lead the league in drives lasting over five minutes and are also at the top of the league in average Time of possession per game, I expect the Jets to have a lot of long scoring drives and I expect Denver's defense to be dead by the middle of the 4th quarter. Yes, Denver has a very potent passing attack, and yes, I think Cutler will probably have his moments against the Jets secondary. However, the Broncos also turn the ball over a lot and the Jets defense forces a lot of turnovers. Also, look at the record of the West Coast teams who have had to travel to the east coast to play day games, it is utterly pitiful.
