He'd want to stick it to Denver like he stuck it to Oakland all these years A competitive, intelligent, workaholic coach with 2 super bowls...I'll take that
All he does is WIN! I don't care how...just WIN! Wish Mangini would've used the same strategy if it helped the team.
Just because he runs a west coast offense doesn't mean that Favre is going to be good in it. We've already seen diminished skills from Favre and now we have to try and get him into his 2nd new offense in 2 years. King's point that Shanny would be good for Favre are looking mostly at Favre's best intrests, not the Jets'. And what the hell does sticking it to Denver have to do with next season? Denver's in first in its division and we're in third. We're not playing them next year unless we both make the playoffs.
I get the feeling that bringing in Shanahan would be like bringing in the coaching version of Brett Favre. Another old guy who's best years are behind him.
Shanahan collapse was even worst than Jets. Besides, he has not accomplished anything since Elway left. I feel Mangini is a much better choice than Shanahan now.
Please. Shanahan should be the frontrunner for this job under the conditions that he doesn't have total personnel control and the 3-4 is kept. He's worked with Mike Nolan in Denver before, although Nolan is a Reeves guy and Reeves and Shanahan hate each other.
shanny failed the past 2 1/2 years in Denver because his defense was autrocious... he is an offensive coach...if he can find a coordinator he would be great when elway won them 2...and even through some of the plummer years...they had a great D Shanny is also a great game manager(on offense)...and up until this year(and one loss with Danny Kennel starting)...dominates the patriots
Shanahan seems to be the best choice right now because of his experience. While Spagnuolo is a good strategist, I think the Jets need a lot more than an Xs and Os guy. Some of the Jets need a kick in the pants to execute plays. I think Shanahan will provide that. He also has experience dealing with big name QBs. Bring him on board.
I just finished listening to Shanahan's press conference, and i've come away with this: 1- He will be rejuvinated in a change of scenery, and be successful. He still has that fire in his eyes, and i think moreso now. 2- He would not demand total control. He said it straight out. He wants the best people in place, at thier respective positions, and wants to let them do thier jobs. 3- I WANT THIS GUY. I just feel his fire, and competitiveness, when he speaks. I like his philosophy. I'm going on record as supporting Shanahan as our next Head Coach.
That's the same as saying Parcells never won anything without LT. And Shula never won anything with arguably the greatest passer ever. Shanahan since he's been there has always had competitive teams that are always considered playoff calibre. I'd take him in a heart beat...
What I actually like about Shanahan is his record against Belicheat: even after this year's 41-7 drubbing, he's still 5-3 vs the cheater. Shanahan is the only active coach the cheater is losing against. Even without Brady, Cheats still came up with 11-5, meaning the road to SB still goes through New England for the foreseeable future. Shanahan might be the first step into the right direction.
I completely agree. It's interesting because I've been saying this for the past five weeks and, day by day, I see more and more posters questioning whether Getting rid of Mangini was really as much of a "no-brainer" as 90 percent of this board has been saying.
