Just heard former NFL DE and current Ravens broadcaster, Rob Burnett talking with M.Kay on ESPN Radio this afternoon and he had quite a lot of very exciting things to say about Ryan and his future as a HC of the Jets. Much has already been said but perhaps other things have not: 1. He is a highly charismatic, intelligent and passionate leader who inspires tremendous devotion, loyalty and commitment from his players. 2. His specialty is getting players to maximize their performance potential on the field. He's an exceptional teacher and motivator who specializes in identifying the specific strengths (and weaknesses) of his defensive players and then teaching techniques and devising schemes in order for those players to most effectively utilize their strengths to maximum effect (and mitigate their weaknesses). 3. He said that he knows of no other DC that creates confusing schemes that allow defenders to reach the backfield (and the QB) unblocked with anywhere near the frequency of Ryan. 4. He said that the combination of the major improvement to the Jets defensive performance that Ryan will help author as well as the force of his charisma will make him loved by his players, the fans and the media. 5. This refers back to item one above wherein the intensity of the loyalty Ryan has from his players will very likely lead to the defection of at least one or more Ravens defensive FAs to New York this off season. Ray Ray (Lewis) is one player he named whom he thought could very possibly end up finishing his career with the Jets and fill a leadership void on our D not seen since Bryan Cox played for us. (Apparently numerous Ravens FAs are making noise about following Ryan to the Jets. I'll take Bart Scott over Eric Barton anytime.) 6. He is extremely effective at delegating authority and responsibility to his staff and thus will not fall into the trap of becoming a micro-manager that befalls many a first time HC. I was already very excited about Ryan becoming our new HC but the more I hear about Ryan, the more I am finding to be positive about.
he's a football coach. plain and simple. No outsmarting, no preaching, no over exaggerated bullshit.... just football. Hit you in the mouth, hit you when you are down, hit you before you get up football. Thats how its supposed to be played.
we have players to cut like David Barrett. That frees up cap space, and then we have the $$ to sign... the Cap # also goes up this year to 123 or 126 million. We'll be under.
Of course, nearly all of us we equally optimistic about Mangini. Let's all hope we've got it right this time with Rexy.
we never heard him say anything about him being a great motivator or his players loving him... We kinda knew him as a mini belichick but not how or why. I think there was a lot more speculation about who Mangini was going to be rather than who he is.
I can see bryan thomas, david barrett, coles, favre, baker, ellis and kenyon coleman gone...the cap space will be there..eboland has said he has heard ellis especially isn't safe...
if they get rid of Coleman and Ellis there is no DL anymore.. I know Jenkins is important, but getting rid of Ellis doesn't make sense... he was a pro bowl alternate, he had his best season in 5 years last year. The rest I don't mind.
Tanny always moves things around and makes plenty of cap room. I don't know why people act like the Jets will have no space. As for Ryan, I am getting more and more excited about him. Can't wait to hear what he has to say tomorrow.
I don't want Ray Lewis. Any of the other F/A's I would more then happy with. Trevor Pryce? Bart Scott? Sign me up.
It amazed me how little attention people paid to the DE's all season. Coleman is average and Ellis was a very good player, but he is not a top of the line DE. And how excited can we get over Mike DeVito? That spot has to be addressed, and I'd like that to be one of our draft targets.
Why wouldn't you want Ray Lewis? Is it his hard hitting smash mouth style of football? Or is it his unmatched leadership? Or... is it a criminal charge that he was never convicted of?
