Again Peter King tries to blow up the jets, and the jets say King needs to get his facts straight (rotoworld) The Jets deny an SI.com report that they plan to give Brett Favre "months" if necessary to decide whether to play or retire. SI.com's Peter King reported that Favre spoke to GM Mike Tannenbaum last week and told him to not rush a decision. The Jets say they're hoping to hear "an indication" about Favre's plans before the Combine begins on Feb. 18.
Far be it for me to be called a Favre fanboy, but it really should be pointed out that he has said absolutely nothing about any of this, so blaming the drama on him seems a little unfair. On the other hand, I will absolutely change that opinion if he doesn't either (a) retire or (b) say he's coming back and agree to participate in off-season programs by February 18.
Feb 27 th the start of free agency up until that point it is a none issue if he cant tell us by than we need to move on.
Lookie here Favre fanboy ... just kidding.... I would just like the guy to commit one way or the other... as quickly as possible. I mean, does it really take that long to make up your mind? We have all gotten job offers before--- and I know this is simplistic--- but I KNOW I KNEW whether or not I was going to take the job within an hour of getting the offer.
And how about WANTING A QB who is GUNGHO and PUMPED TO BE HERE playing for us.... instead of sitting in Mississippi mulling it over.....
You are (as usual) one of the most reasonable voices on this board. Needless to say, I concur. Players play here because Woody pays them to. Grow up and accept that none of our players (not just Favre) are part of the Jets because being here was their #1 (or even top 5) goal in the NFL.
I have no problem with him taking his time until the combine. It's unfair if this team doesn't have an indication as to where he is going by then especially when they might be in a position to either trade up for Sanchez or properly evaluate Freeman. I'm really not a fan of Freeman though.
The fact that he hasn't said anything, IS the drama. I mean, you still don't know weather you are going to play or not? come on. Shit or get off the pot!
I honestly don't hate the guy--- i believe he is our best current option. But ya know what? Show me that you WANT TO BE A JET---- I can't believe I actually typed that. But I mean it....
Sanchez will probably be there at 17. Stafford may be too. That is the latest thinking. Neither of them have played enough to be top NFL picks. I'm not sure the Jets would want either of them anyway, for the same reason they would still be there. Would you want to pay one of them 50 million or more with 30 guaranteed?
Kurt Warner stated prior to the game that he is 50/50 on returning next season whether he won or not. Impose a deadline on Favre's decision. Like some say, it has to come prior to the free agent period. Anytime after that puts the team at a disadvantage. The media makes more out of these stories so they can sell papers, magazines, ets. I'm sure Mike T has a plan mapped out either way. It would be silly and irresponsible not to.
its not his fault that the media has latched onto him as their #1 offseason story. i find it funny when he comes up on all these shows how the writers or analysts say they are tired of the favre drama. if they just didn't talk about it no one would give a shit until he said something about it. but they will pretend to not like the drama even though they love it because it makes their job easy. they don't need to look for real stories to fill shows they can just spend an hour ripping favre for not making a decision yet. Brilliant!
I'm unsettled that I stepped in a nest of Peter King threads on the front page. Someone make it stop. King: I'm not saying that Arizona can't win the game. What I'm really saying is that Pittsburgh will find it very hard to lose. Aye-eesh.
Doesn't the spin surrounding Favre feel a bit like what Green Bay went through for the two seasons before they finally called Favre's bluff? I agree that Favre isn't on the record at all at this point but that doesn't mean his agent isn't talking up a storm backstage to try to get Favre his offseason drama fix and full paycheck next season.
Oh, the parallels with last year are there, alright. And while I have no trouble believing that an agent could be stirring the pot, if Favre really has an agent out there working to stir up this drama he's more of a tool than I can imagine. I guess at this point I'm willing to give this the two weeks until the combine and not think about it. As I said in my earlier post, I don't feel the Jets owe him any more time than that, and I also think that the condition of him coming back is that they should insist that he participate in offseason workouts whether he likes it or not. If he's not willing to do that, they should cut him and make a public statement saying that it was his unwillingness to do this that is the reason.
His silence speaks volumes for the shelfish individual he his. He would go up my estimation if he just plain out says he's done. He knows he can't compete at this level anymore. I want our new HC make the decision for him. BYE
