San Jose State DL Jarron Gilbert ran an unofficial forty time of 4.81 at the Scouting Combine Monday.Gilbert, of YouTube/swimming pool fame, is 6'6/287. The forty time is insanely good. Gilbert entered the offseason as a projected third-round pick, but his stock is soaring. He's a legitimate first-round prospect now. 26 teams were on hand at San Jose State as they started the workout bright and early on a cold and breezy morning. The star of the day, Jarron Gilbert, delivered as expected. Gilbert measured 6051/284-pounds, four less than his combine weight. His jumps were fantastic as Gilbert posted a 37-inch vertical jump and 10-foot 7-inch broad. His forty's averaged 4.76 seconds, significantly faster than his performance at the combine. Gilbert's 10yd split was 1.67-seconds and his 20yd-split was 2.75 seconds. He ran into a slight breeze. Later Gilbert ran in the low 4.4's in the short shuttle and posted a 3-cone time of 7.57 seconds. The almost three dozen scouts on hand watched as New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan put Gilbert through a series if defensive line drills. Even as the defensive backs started their workout the scouts paid little attention, watching every detail of Gilbert's session work. By all accounts it was a terrific performance and Gilbert is very much knocking on the door of round one. > i " borrowed " this from another fan site
not with more teams switching to the 3-4 let alone this guy played 4-3 DT in college and has the athleticism to do ALOT at the pro level. this guy is a good coach's dream. if he slips into the late 1st round someone will grab him or trade up to not let him fall to a new 3-4 team in the 2nd rd like the packers or a team with defensive trouble like the lions. who with 3 picks in the 1st rd, might go offense with two picks and nab this kid with the other. long story short, I personally doubt it, but he MIGHT be available in the second, and if so, as unlikely as it is, he WILL NOT be available when we pick in the 2nd.
Gilbert jumping out of a pool: I wonder if he can do back flips?
check out all the talk on him in the draft forum. Common belief there is that he is a first rounder, and that he is by no means a workout warrior. I personally agree, btu I do fear Gholston Version 2.0. (though I ALSO think Mount Vernon makes whoopie on NFL QBs this year and for years to come)
At this point he may not be available at 17, let alone round two. Several have him rated as thier top 3-4 DE. If he makes it past our pick he will be gone in the later first/early second Area. I doubt any of Gilbert, Jackson, or Hood makes it to our pick in round two.
I have to say that was some clip in the pool. HMMM San Jose State DL Jarron Gilbert I will have to google this guy and learn some more. Thanx.
Do you think Parcells or Belichick are gonna try to screw us over and jump ahead to the ~15 and draft him?
I think we could and should find a 3-4 DE in the 3rd or 4th rounds of the draft because we already added a MLB in Bart Scott, a Safety in Leonard and a CB in Sheppard this offseason and I cant see Rex Ryan passing up on Offensive talent in the FIRST ROUND when we have so many question marks on the offensive side of the ball... Defense Wins Championships but you gotta put points on the board to get Wins and I love great D's but it would be annoying to have O's like the Bears and Ravens...You know, O's that let the D down more often than not. I would love Sanchez in the 1st, add some new blood to the franchise on the offensive side of the ball because those two rookie QB's in ATL and BAL with Ryan and Flacco really made a splash last year as franchise QB's. I really doubt that Sanchez will be there when we pick and thats the reason why I see us going WR with the 1st pick because Cotchery has never really been a #1, now he's the #1...Stucky is a slot WR and may end up being our #2 WR because Clowney was hurt all of last year and will start off as the Slot wr...It's just not looking good. Draft a WR and have Cotchery as the #1 (He can do the job, he's a tough WR with talent) Keep Stucky in the Slot with Clowney slowly progressing And draft a WR like Harvin or someone else to man the #2 WR... Im not knocking your thread about this 3-4 Defensive end...But as of right now, our D is looking solid and our O has alot of Question marks
We'd be better off trading back to 20 with the Lions so they can grab a QB ahead of Chiago/TB and pick up an extra 3rd if we really want Gilbert in the 1st. I also really like Connor Barwin, it seems unlikely that he'll get past the Pats.
I do not see that happening, but San Deigo at 16 is a possibilty. They Just lost Igor Olshansky and could use a good 3-4 DE.
Welcome to the Baltimore Ravens of the past...well ever since they've been the ravens. Dominating defense and a power running based ball controll offense. Its our future.
