Hello fellas! This is my first post and thread on theganggreen.com if posted already I appologize. Jets consider 'Bama QB With all the Leinart-Young-Cutler talk, Jets fans will want to hear the name of a quarterback selected by their team on the first day of the draft Saturday. And they just might. But Gang Green may not choose that QB until after 5 p.m The Jets' new brain trust ? general manager Mike Tannenbaum, coach Eric Mangini, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and draft director Jesse Kaye ? has done its due diligence scouting the Big Three: Matt Leinart, Vince Young and Jay Cutler. But in between, they also have done their homework on the second-tier QBs. They feel that their 29th and 35th overall selections will present them with great value. And perhaps that No. 35, third in the second round early Saturday evening, will be spent on the Jets' next "quarterback of the future." The leading contender there is Alabama's Brodie Croyle. In fact, Croyle concluded his predraft visits Friday with a visit to Jets' officials in New York. Croyle has his supporters and detractors. The latter don't like his build, a slender 6 feet 3 and 204 pounds, nor that in the Crimson Tide's loss to archrival Auburn last season, he was sacked 11 times. But his supporters, among them Tide linebacker and first-round candidate DeMeco Ryans, love how he bounces up after those sacks and the poise and composure he displays in between. One draft analyst described Croyle as "Brady-like," as in New England's Tom Brady, whom Mangini became familiar with as a Patriots coach the past six seasons. Last week, after visiting Leinart in Los Angeles and before meeting Young in Houston, Schottenheimer worked out Oregon's Kellen Clemens, who has good size (6-2, 223) and was playing lights-out for the Ducks before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. Clemens' postseason work has elevated him into the second round on some draft boards. The Jets also stopped by Clemson to get a last look at Charlie Whitehurst. His size (6-5, 222) and bloodlines (his dad was former Green Bay QB David Whitehurst) are intriguing, but he's been marked down for a deliberate release and struggles against the blitz. Despite all this, the Jets still may do what many think they won't do and take a quarterback high in Round 1. Leinart could fall into their laps ? will they stand up? Or maybe the Raiders make a great offer to swap their seventh pick for the Jets' fourth and throw in their second-rounder. Then the Jets could begin a run of four picks in the top 37 by taking Cutler at No. 7. Maybe. http://www.northjersey.com/page.php...lRUV5eTY5MjQ3ODMmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2
Leinart would be tough to pass on, but there may be value in this draft later on. If Leinart's there though , man that would be tough. I wouldn't take Cutler at #7, I think he's a lower 1st round talent, and not worthy of a top 20 pick
I would LOVE to have the jets draft croyle. The last qb the jets got out of bama seemed to work, im not saying that croyle is the next broadway joe but croyle is a very solid p and would be a steal in the 3rd round.
Welcome aboard. I'm really high on Croyle, so I wouldn't be upset one bit if we took him. Our 2nd round pick (#35) may be a bit too high to draft him though.
I think Croyle would be a smart choice in the early third round. I don't think he has the value to take him at 35.
Well I think it is pretty obvious the Jets really like Cutler over both the QB's at the top. If we trade down to 7 Cutler could be the pick, but I think the Jets are more interested in Clemens and Croyle. I am all for Cutler at 7, I just don't think the Jets are seriously looking at QB in round one.
I think right now the only thing obvious is we have no idea who they like or dislike.. Our FO doesn't speak, so how does the media pretend to know what they are thinking. No matter what the media says, I will be shocked beyond belief if we pass on Leinart at 4 if he is sitting there..
Unlike Pennington, Croyle just played and entire season without getting hurt. I also don't think your assessment about his arm strength is correct. In fact, people have said he has a really nice deep ball.
This is true. Croyle had I think the second or third fastest throw. I know Cutler was timed at 59 MPH and Broyle was at 58 MPH. And yes he throws a great deep ball. Remember the senior bowl? He threw a 55 yrd bomb to I think it was Sinorice Moss
Croyle doesn't have a weak arm by any means, and while he has had his knee issues, he is hardly injury prone. There is a karma thing going on with Croyle. If you've seen him its down right spooky. Whether he has recreated the persona or not, the guy is the spitting image of young Joe. With that said, anything higher than #71 for the guy is a serious reach.
Not sure where everyone is getting there info on Croyle. I don't know how a torn left ACL, seperated shoulder (sound familiar) and torn right ACL over the past 3 years isn't injury prone.
First off, never use GM Jr to make any kind of opinion on draft prospects. They are unequivicollay the worst draft related site that has ever existed. Go look at their rankings. Second, the ACLs aren't recurring injuries, they are freak accidents. As for the Seperated Shoulder, it was his LEFT, NON-throwing shoulder that was seperated, so no, it most certainly does not sound familiar.
Glad to see some type of rumor about the Jets taking Croyle. I've been saying that they should make this move ever since the senior bowl. I think he's going to be a great NFL QB, so I hope the Jets don't pass up on him.
Great, we draft this guy and we have 2 of the football equivalents of "Glass Joe" from Punch out.. Glass Chad & Glass Brodie
