The Giants did very well this year in the draft: Round 1 29 (29) Hakeem Nicks (video) WR 6'1 210 North Carolina Analysis: Hakeem Nicks fills the Giants' biggest need and should be able to contribute right away. He is as polished as any receiver in this year's draft and is a bear to bring down after the catch. I expect him to become Eli Manning's go-to guy in the coming years. Round 2 13 (45) Clint Sintim (video) LB 6'3 254 Virginia Analysis: I think Sintim is a solid overall prospect; however, I don't know if he is a good fit in the Giants' 4-3 scheme. Sintim could be used in a number of ways in New York, but he has to attack the line of scrimmage because he really struggles in space. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: (from New Orleans) Round 2 28 (60) Will Beatty (video) T 6'6 300 Connecticut Analysis: A great value at the end of the second round as the Giants nab a one of the most athletic tackle prospects in the draft. Beatty is very fluid with good length and has the makings of a starting left tackle in the NFL. Round 3 21 (85) Ramses Barden WR 6'6 227 Cal Poly Analysis: The Giants traded up to get the king-sized Cal Poly product. Barden was very productive in college, but he lacks any kind of burst and will struggle separating on all levels of the field. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: (from Pittsburgh) Round 3 36 (100) Travis Beckum (video) TE 6'4 235 Wisconsin Analysis: The Giants add another receiving threat who will be able to make plays down the seam. Beckum will be a matchup nightmare for NFL defenses. He struggles blocking, but will definitely contribute in the pass game. Round 4 29 (129) Andre Brown (video) RB 6'0 228 North Carolina St. Analysis: A nice value for the Giants in getting a physical, between-the-tackles runner. He is a very powerful back who has a nice blend of vision and body control at the line of scrimmage. Round 5 15 (151) Rhett Bomar (video) QB 6'2 215 Sam Houston St.
The Giants are well improved after this weekend, not too much to say on top of that. Jerry Reese is an awesome GM
I liked those two picks as well but Beatty and Bromar were my favorite picks for the G-Men. Great value on both picks.
The Giants were the #1 seed in the NFC last year. After their solid FA and great draft, they are 5 times better. Plus they will get a healthy Osi next year. Look out.
The best pick may have been Sintim. He is just another beastly pass rusher that can get pressure. Nicks and Barden do give Eli some big targets to throw to as well.
The Giants destroyed this draft in my eyes. They got 3 guys who were projected to go in the first and some great WR help.
I think that was the idea with this draft. Nicks' hands are excellent and should bail out Eli when he misfires (which he is good for a few times every game). I also like his YAC ability and think he will help move the sticks. Sintim will be used to make opposing QBs pray for the sweet release of death on 3rd downs. I also think he will be groomed to replace Pierce. He plays faster than his 40 time and is a big hitter. If he can learn to play the center of the field in coverage I think he will be a great MLB in 2010 after Pirece is gone. Beatty is a great prospect for the future and was projected to be a late 1st round talent. He can be groomed for when McKenzie or Diehl retires/leaves/gets hurt. Barden intrigues me greatly. He did play at Cal-Poly, but he dominated his competition. I think he can develop into a great redzone target and be a solid NFL WR. Beckum has great speed and strength at the TE position. His 28 bench reps while weighing 243 are very impressive. I think he can be a mismatch for defenses and a great H-back for the Giants. Bomar is good competition for Andre Woodson and could be traded away for a higher pick in the future. The later rounds I won't comment on as I don't really know these guys. What I like the most about Nicks, Sintim, Beatty, & Barden are that they are all physical guys. I think this team is continuing to build itself into a fast and physical group and I love it! Philly did draft well too, so I am expecting some epic battles between these two clubs.
Thank you, the Giants did have a great draft and osi will be back with the rest of the d-fense. congrats to all the teams in the draft and good luck next season. (#1 team in the NFC NEW YORK GIANTS)
I have a friend who has had a player he likes (and talks about for weeks prior to the draft) taken by the Giants almost annually. It doesn't matter if the player is a 1st round talent or a late round steal. Be it busts like Sinorice Moss, or useful players like Zak DeOssie; the Giants always steal his players.
The eagles have a chip in my head. Last 10 years or so every time I talk someone up the Eagles take them. Last year was the one year they didn't. Giants had a wonderful draft for a draft that didnt have much in it.
Giants might have had a good draft, but there a win now team and probable should of went after a proven #1 wr..
Edwards would have killed the cap. Nicks can work underneath routes, Beatty is a great investment for the future, Sintim can make a fearsome passrush downright nasty on 3rd down, Beckum will be a solid checkdown option that creates matchup problems, and Barden is already going to be a great redzone option and could develop into even more than that. I think Reese drafted guys that can play now while also keeping the team in shape for the future. I am nothing short of thrilled with this draft.
