amen to above. he only started one year at usc. he's going to need time to develope to nfl level qb'ing! i'd rather see clemens start the season and have sanchez come in after the halfway point, so he has time to adjust to the speed of the nfl level...
Brand new. I started watching football this weekend. What bothers me, oh disgruntled testicle, is shoddy weblogging mascarading as journalism. Perloff opens his piece kowtowing to the New England Patriots, a team I'm told I need to hate if I ant to be a Jets fan. "New England is a great team, so that means they had a great draft." That's a bit off-putting. His opinion that Mark Sanchez will struggle is not in and of itself bothersome; it's his opinion, he's entitled to it, and it is clearly possible. However, supporting that opinion as FACT by misrepresenting the successes of previous quarterbacks and relying on inaccurate information is bothersome. The fact of the situation is that the New York Jets enter the 2009 with a strong, proven defense as well as a strong, proven running game. Perloff disputes that. He insinuates that the amazing rookie success of Matt Ryan can in part be attributed to Atlanta's stout 2008 defense; Atlanta's defense in 2008 was inadequate. Explained?
I think Sanchez is capable of handing the ball off. I'm pretty sure these skills are almost a given. That is 50% of the plays right there at least. Then you have controlled short range high-percentage passes; I think he will be fine here as well unless he telegraphs the play. I really think that practicing against our D will help Sanchez develop faster; our D will magnify his mistakes and be a very good barometer of where he is in terms of development. Sanchez's only real challenge would be the touch passes, like a fade pattern, or the longer passes. I am not concerned about long bombs becasue IMO that is not the game of football for the most part. As for Perloff; his name says all it has to.
Sanchez No one can say if Sanchez is ready or not until he gets thrown in there with the big boys. Obviously coach can tell if he is ready or not, but he doesnt know what kind of heart this kid has. I dont think he should start until the latter part of the season. Let him get his situated with his team first.....learn the ropes from the vets and hopefully take charge at becoming the teams leader.
Gah, chuck him in the fire. If he's the next great thing, with loads of poise and football intelligence, then throw him in the muthafuckin fire. What separates the men from the boys is how you handle pressure. Chuck his ass in the fire!
Absolutely. Especially if Rex Ryan throws every conceivable defense / blitz at him. It'll help him with his already incredible ability to read and pick up where the blitz is coming from.
Today on the NFL Radio Pettine said Sanchez will see defense schemes thrown at him from every angle in practice. The games will be easier than playing against the Jets defense in practice.
