Our young generals have a plan and are sticking to it. Contrary to most opinions, taking Brick was not the easy thing to do. Taking Leinart would have been the easy out. Our guys were meticulous in their player evaluations and stuck with their guns. They tried to go up for Bush but refused to overpay. They will soon have a rep as cold calculating men who will not let emotion or sentiment overrule what is best for the team. No one here has all the information that our drafters had at their disposal. The picks may not pan out but for the first time in a while I feel like our front office is conducting itself in the best long term interest of the team. Sexy picks sells tickets for the short term, winning teams fill the stadium long term.

I am not a big fan of the FO but I agree it would have been easier on them to pick Leinart or make a splash by trading up for Bush. Nice to see them not give in to the pressure and pick the player they have rated the highest on their board.

I agree. The FO shouldn't be picking on the basis of what the fans think. They're the professionals. They're the ones who devoted a good chunk of their life meticulously analyzing 400+ prospects. They shouldn't be afraid to pick their guy, just because some fan wants to play as Leinart in the next Madden.

Yeah, this was a pressure cooker and they have navigated it just fine so far. No bending, no throwing the fans a bone to stop the (non-existent) booing at 4.

    I'm very impressed.

If D'Brick was from anywhere else besides the NY metro area the pick would have been BOOed.

Trading up for Bush would have driven me insane, regardless of how successful he ends up being. In the end I think the Jets were just testing the waters for a trade-up, but standing pat was an excellent choice and I think it will benefit the team more in the long term.

He's a very good offensive line prospect, he has a memorable name, the Jet's need good offensive linemen, and he's from NY.

    What's not to like?

It's not sexy to build the line but I've never seen a team win a Super Bowl without having a damn good one. That includes the Ravens who won with their defense. And Jonathan Ogden...

I applaud the FO for doing there homework and sticking to their board. I think if they had Leinart rated higher than D'brick, they would have picked him.

Well, I'm glad they showed some class and didn't boo this year.

Agreed. But still.....I just hope this doesn't back fire. All we can HOPE for is similar success as the Pats. We are putting A LOT of faith in a FO/Coaching staff which has yet to prove anything. We all may love the moves and such but at last check we have yet to win a game under Mangini. We are just happy a change in "culture" was made and assume and hope that it couldn't be any worse than last year.

Many youngsters won't remember but I would love for our front office and staff to emulate the Cowboys of the Landry era. I hated them but respected the way they ran their organization. Very analytical and seemingly one step in front of everyone.

    I guess we don't need a QB.

Not as long as we have Duckwing and Ramsey taking snaps. With Bollywood waiting in the wings, this franchise is good at the QB spot for the next 5 minutes..

What makes you think that? Chad Pennington is a question mark due to injuries, and Ramsey hasn't really shown much in his short career in the NFL.

Just because they didn't take a QB with their #4 pick, doesn't mean it's impossible to take one in later rounds. You do realize there is more than one round in the draft, right?

We're not building for this year or even next year.

We need to create a foundation for this team, and you do that with the offensive line. I'd also love to see Nick Mangold don the green and white at 29or 35.

Build up the lines and we will have an excellent offense in the first few years.

nothing in our draft so far indicates that the FO feels that we don't need a QB. Only 3 have been selected so far. RELAX..

Statistics don't lie, only 3 out of 40 something 1st rnd QB's have won the the superbowl to date. HAVE FAITH in our new FO ( until they prove otherwise on the field )

agreed...for christ sake trent dilfer won a super bowl...you can win with an ok QB, but not without a running game or if the QB is always under pressure (read: OFFENSIVE LINE)

QB's will always be available, but if we tighten up the line, get some defensive needs, help the running game out, it will be a successful draft

The Bush scenarios were getting to me also. Giving up the picks for one premier player did not sit well. We addressed a problem area and I am sure the new regime has a plan for the remaining draft picks.

Loved the Dbrick pick. This guy is a beast and he is from the school of Parcells type player. HE played with Groh. There are going to be some good players at 29 and 35
