This is not a Jets fan bitching thread.....I just want to get everyones thoughts on the lack of Clowney today. I think he is going to be really needed over the course of the season and was a little disappointed he was nowhere to be found. I heard his name once all game.

Do you think he's going to fade into the regular season again?

It's one game, the offense played fine w/o him. When we need him we'll call his number and see wat he can do

I think he'll show up sometimes and sometimes be nonexistent....he won't be a consistent player for a while, he's still young.

I thought that Clowney played well enough in the pre-season to win the starting slot over Brad Smith. Smith is an enigma he has great athleticism & can run with the ball but can not catch it consistently.

It's not that he can't catch it consistently...he can't catch an easy pass to save his life. I've seen him make crazy acrobatic catches but when it comes to simple catches where he's pretty much wide open forget about it

Clowney is our deeeeeeeep threat... like Washington was for the Steelers if you will.

I think for the first pro-game of his life Schotty didn't want Sanchez to rely on throwing a bomb 40 yds down the field. It's a good call...

Since Sanchez looked so comfortable tonight I think in the upcoming games we'll see more of Clowney.

PS I must say I was also VERY pleased with Cotchery and, in particular, Stuckey. Very solid game for both of them.

I really think they just use him in the pre-season and forget about him all year. I like both Stuckey and Clowney, but, I think CLowney should get more time on the field.

I just think that Sanchez's hot target today was Stuckey... and Keller is always a bail out player and you couldnt help but notice Washington..

I'd bet there were more packages designed towards CLowney and the deep ball but the down/ distance didn't allow it; once we knew what type of game it was settling into, think Schotty emphasized protection and the shorter routes.

Once confidence in Sanchez's decision-making and Oline protection improve I think we'll see Clowney get more opportunities.

It's Sanchez's first game. I think they were concentrating more on shorter passes, especially since we were ahead. Clowney could be a playmaker, but he's unreliable. In a game like today, we didn't really need that.

And I guess they also think Brad Smith has more uses in the regular offense.

I still think we are one BIG reciever away from having a kick-ass passing time... ALthough i'm very happy at todays display :)

I hate Brad Smith but he's a very good blocking receiver.

I agree!! Clowney and Stuckey played very well. That being said, I'd still like to add a big time receiver for next season. We have some good weapons around Sanchez...but could use another big time player.

After watching the USC/OSU game, I'm convinced Damian Williams would be a perfect fit. Wiliams made a couple of big catches adjusting to Barkley's ball. Williams made a nice leaping, out streched catch that showed me he has what it takes to be a big time player in the NFL. I keyed on Williams all night and while his stats weren't off the charts...he made plays when he had to and did an excellent job blocking.

Pound for pound, I think he's the best blocker on the team

Not to mention plays for USC that Sanchez did as well so don't be surprised if Sanchez will be telling the Jets to go after him in the draft next year. I think he's even already hinted about it somewhere

Killeri..........I'm with ya man!! I've read somewhere a few months ago, Sanchez has hinted he would love to have DW on the Jets. Sanchez may have Rex/Tanny's ear next April!!

It's a long season and the draft is far off...but I'd say WR or DE/DT would be our best options in rd 1.

I don't mind having Wright and Smith on this team... backup WR and CB are almost always kept because of the contribution they make to special teams... I would have no problems carrying 6 CB and 6 WR as long as 2 CBs and 2 WRs are special teams aces (and so far Wright, Smith and Carroll are).

Speaking ST I think it's almost a lock one guy between Coleman and Cole gets cut for Ellis... what I wonder is when Pace comes back do we cut Trusnik or do we keep 5 CBs? I know it's off topic... just wondering!

I've been hearing this name alot relative to Sanchez. I agree we do need two more pieces. Those would be a true WR and a dangerous edge rusher. I think when we finally replace John Abraham and Wes Walker, we'll be ready to contend and possibly dominate.
