I am as pumped as anyone at the start of the season...2-0. The D shut down a strong Texans O on the road. Then they knocked the shit out of Tommy Boy and finally beat the Pats at home. I'm not a darksider but I think its way too early to start looking ahead. One week at a time. Why are some even talking about the Saints game already? I hear people on the radio calling in and predicting 12-4 and going deep in the playoffs. Is it possible? Sure...but why do people do this to themselves year after year. Be hopeful and proud but take it easy. Regardless of our start this team is not built to win this year...its a work in progress.
I disagree. Based on the only evidence shown on the field, we are built to win. If you want to hold on to preseason magazine predictions, then u r right, we are not built to win. The Defense looks excellent, and we have our best natural pass rusher coming back in 2 weeks. I am not saying we are going 12-4, because that is difficlt for even the best of teams, however, lets judge the team on what we see, not what prognosticators predicted. Also, I never agreed with the negative outlook for this year. We were 8-3 last yr before Favre fell apart and jenkins broke down, and everyone thought we were awesome. We added to the team this year, and have a superior coaching scheme. I really never understood the 6-10 predictions, they seemed very pessimistic. For God's sake, we really have a ton of talent on D.
I never understand this mentality. What difference does it make if a fan looks ahead? Does it somehow affect the performance of the team that I am unaware of? I'm not sure what you were watching the last two weeks but what I saw was a team that was ready to win. I'm sure there will be some bumps along the way but we saw what the potential is in the first two weeks. Playing to that potential gives them a chance to beat any team in the league at any time.
Some people can take hurt and disappointment like an aspirin. Others (Like myself) Are physically effected when their sports team fails. I don't watch sports all together when my teams loose. I'm also struck by how some are already talking New Orleans before we have even taken the field against the Titans. Its an avalanche effect . We have been pleasantly surprised and amazed at how well are guys have played ; it only natural for the fans to become charged with the same "we cant loose" mentality that their team displays. Here's one thing. If we beat the Titans this week , then next week becomes the statement game for the NFL. We win the next two and everyone will be twitching and the rhetoric will be off the chain. :jets:
I disagree that about not being built to win this year... however, I do think we have some issues on the offensive side of the ball. We need to control the clock better and score more points. Hopefully, Sanchez and the RBs will get better every week and we will have a high power offense to go along with our defense by midseason. I'm cautiously optomistic.
The only thing I would add to this is Mangini also made some major defensive scheme changes at the end of the season which backfired. We kept a good portion of coaches and players from last year so this is not a rebuilding year. The only issue that could hold us back would be a "rookie" qb leading the team who so far looks more like a seasoned player. 12-4? Im not sold on that yet. I am hoping for a playoff appearance though.
I think you've been listening to Mike Fatcessa for too long. Its never acceptable to get excited by anything the Jets do , unless of course they are coached by the Tuna. Rex has changed the mindset of this team and now the fans have something to be excited for , not only for this year but also for the future. So stop fearing the "inevitable" and start believing in the new Jets.
This pretty much sums up my feelings. Personally, I have three reactions to the first two games: (1) The Jets have played far better than anyone could have predicted, (2) that means that I'm excited about watching games, but (3) that doesn't mean that it will continue all season, so I am still only cautiously optimistic. Having said that, I certainly don't understand why anyone would care what some fans are thinking - for me, the only thing that matters is what the team does, and how I feel about it. I feel the same way about fans of other teams - unless they are somehow getting in my face (whether in person or by trolling message boards), I couldn't care less what they think.
Why should we take it easy exactly? If we don't reach the expectations is it going to be too hard for you to take? The outcome will be the outcome, regardless. Is there any reason not enjoy what could be? Are you afraid that in retrospect someone is going to say "haaa..guess you were not as good that you thought?" Does that moment intimidate you so much that you can enjoy the enthusiasm now?
Jesus, if the only time you got excited with the Jets was when they where a bona fide Super Bowl contender you'd have the pulse of someone who was cryogenically frozen. Enjoy it now.
After putting the ball in Sanchez' hands in the second half, we scored 13 pts, should have been 17 if Stuck didn't fall down. The first half playcalling was extremely conservative, but those two fumbles obviously hurt since we never got into an early rhythm. I think our offense is better than a lot of people are giving them credit for. Our running game is gonna take time to develop, as teams still don't fear Sanchez' arm. If Sanchez keeps playing like this, eventually things will open up for the running game and our offense can be very effective
How many people are going to take their turn to say this? "Let's keep it real", "Don't get over-excited", "Everybody just calm down". If you want to take it easy, take it easy. If you want to rant and scream about being 2-0, rant and scream. You're meant to enjoy it when your team does well, not worry about it.
The same people who make these threads are the ones who will complain about every little thing after a loss. Make up your minds.
It wasnt meant to be a debbie downer thread I just choose to wait longer than 2 games before I start jerkin' off. To do what most did and initally look at this season as an 8-8 type of year, then to be 2-0 and start talking crazy (i.e 12-4/Superbowl) is pretty fucking stupid in my opinion. Talk to me when were 10-0 and I'll hop on the Superbowl train, until then I'll keep my feet on the ground and wait to see the outcome each Sunday. People looking forward to the Saints game is just the same type of shit as last year when everyone was wondering what would happen when the Jets and Giants both had home Conference Championship games...How'd that work out?
It didn't work out all that well. Call me crazy but I think that had more to do with bad coaching and bad Qb play then it did with the fans talking about a SB in November. BTW, I don't see many posters "jerkin off" to the 2-0 start and I can't say I have seen many threads or posters predicting SB. It is what it is at this point and that is that this team is off to a great start and looking like one of the best teams in football through two games. It very well might change but I guarantee it won't have anything to do with what the fans are thinking about them if it does.
