The roughing the passer call on Suggs against Brady yesterday.... Its about time all these talking heads are finally calling out the NFL and their refs out on this bullshit. We have long known that there are two sets of rules for hitting QB's. You can blast the nobodies but you can't touch the Bradys or Mannings. Today I saw at least 5 hits on QBs that were 100X worse than Suggs fall near Bradys legs. Shit...Gerrard got fucking slammed to the ground...Cushings nailed Russell in the head...both no calls. I do feel that the QBs do need some type of protection. No one wants to see Kellen Clemens battle Jim Sorgi in December. Well...Jet fans might but you get the idea. But these calls are bullshit and I feel it takes away from the game. There is no consistancy in the calls and QBs are football players too. Where/how are these guys supposed to hit QBs???
It has been so obvious to the fans. From the rule changes to suit Brady. To the new rule this year, that came from Brady being knocked out. We didn't see a rule change when Palmer was knocked out of a playoff game. Yesterday was laughable. Guy rolls near his legs. Than he turns around pleading for the ref to throw a flag. Probably told the ref he'd give him a grand. and he throws it. Total bs. If a hit like that is 15 yards. Teams should really go after his knees than. At least make it worthwhile.
It's such a fucking joke the way the NFL has catered to Brady, Belly, and Kraft. This is just the latest example.
The fake limp made me wanna throw my remote through the TV. Just for that I wanna see him leave on a stretcher. Fucking faggot
frankly here is the way I see it, no defender is thinking about rules when they are blitzing, so frankly if you wanna slam his ass to the ground and put him in pain, do it
I'm not really sure this rule is necessary. In a lot of cases the injuries that have the biggest impact on quarterbacks are freak plays where the guy may have even fallen into the qb. Even if the rule was in place last year Brady still tears his ACL because it was just a freak play. I don't get why the NFL has seemingly decided that its better to have a blanket rule that is always absurd and always enforced regardless of context instead of letting refs use context and hopefully making the right call, while still allowing for bad calls to be made. Guys are running full speed at the quarterback and are going to try and hit him as much as possible and we've already seen too many soft calls. That said, maybe the refs figure it out and get better at this call as the season goes on and it really does reduce injuries while not detracting from the intensity of the game, and if that's the case, great. It really is too early to judge the rule and it still could turn out to be a good idea.
That's just it... Palmer was a freak accident, when Vick broke his leg a freak accident (although I don't know how a rule would have been put in place with a guy like him) You can't continue to pussify the sport, I understand wanting to protect the QB but you can't put a bubble around him and hope he doesn't get hit.
Lower the quality of your product...not so good a business move. It's a QB driven league, but you can't demean other aspects of the game to protect them. Considering as how Rex Ryan's defensive philosophy is to make you decide if completing an 8 yard hot-read is worth your QB getting smacked by an untouched blitzer, you might want to rethink your own opinion of this business move.
I thought the other one was a worse call, to be honest. Whatever you think of the rule that was definitely exactly the kind of play they want to prevent, he launched himself at the QB's lower legs, it's a new rule and a point of emphasis, they called it on wilfork against Trent edwards week 1 I know, and I think there was one in the vikings week 2 game as well.
It has always been hard to beat the patriots when they have the officials on their side. The officials cost the Ravens 14 points. That was the game. The ravens are going to submit a film of the questionable calls to the league. Check out the comments by Ray Lewis and Tom Brady. Tom Brady doesn't seem to know that he is playing football. Unreal. I think this kind of favoritism towards the patriots is hurting the game. Where is it written that an elite QB should never suffer an injury? If Tom Brady doesn't want to get injured he should retire. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_y...YF?slug=ap-ravens-officials&prov=ap&type=lgns ?It?s embarrassing to the game,? linebacker Ray Lewis(notes) said. ?Did that win or lose the game? No, but it got them 14 points. ? A personal foul and he isn?t even touched. He?s a man. They can be hit, just like us. We stop them and then you look back and see a flag or a personal foul and Tom Brady is laughing. It wasn?t no personal foul if he?s still smiling.? Suggs said, ?Maybe next year it?ll be two-hand touch to get a sack.? Brady, however, said, ?Are you kidding me? We?re holding the ball, we?re unprotected, just sitting there defenseless, so they?ve got to stay away from me. They deserve to get flagged.?
I don't know where yahoo digs up their stories, but Brady never said that. And it's easy to forget that Wright got called for exactly the same thing as Ngala. Suggs rolled without any help at the QBs legs and stuck his elbow out , and Brady moved to avoid it. If anyone rolled into Sanchez like that there would be a big cry if they didn't call it.
Most of the rule changes in the past 20 years have been bias towards the offense. Most recently, QBs and WRs. Guess what, rating have never been better. Apparently, protecting your stars, has worked out nicely. Ratings in NE without Brady last year...down significantly. Ratings with Brady back, up significantly. Smart business. I don't see anything wrong with protecting QBs. But you must protect ALL QBs.
it was a bad call because he wasn't going for Brady's knees, he was falling down. that's not trying to hurt him, that's being a victim of gravity. Brady's knees just happened to be in the area. ludicrous call. the fact that Brady called for it is what makes him a bitch, even though he wasn't touched, not that it was called. for a roughing the penalty penalty, you should probably have to actually hit the QB, unless it is Brady.
Can't agree more. If you don't hit the QB...how is it roughing? And at what point can we start calling "Diving" penalties in Football just like they do in the NHL. Start penalizing the QB's for embellishment. 15 yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct. That'll teach a few of these fucking pansies.
Brady did say ?Are you kidding me? We?re holding the ball, we?re unprotected, just sitting there defenseless, so they?ve got to stay away from me. They deserve to get flagged.?. I saw him say that on the NBC pregrame show. They also replayed what the Ravens HC and Ray lewis said too. It was true that Flacco got hit hard 5 times and they only called one penalty. Brady was just pushed once and had somebody roll by his legs and they were both called. Maybe Brady should know that receivers are even more defenseless than him when they go up to catch the ball. They get hit whether they catch the ball or nor and come down hard. At least Brady got both feet on the ground when he gets hit.
