I could totally sense it in your tone of voice. Besides, do you think there are not yankee fans out there thinking that right now?
This season has been one to forget, but I guess Yankees. We already get an inordinate amount of crap from their fans so another title is a drop in the bucket. Another Phillies win and NY will have two cities full of asshole fans that are spoiled with a taste of success. Living in Boston the past four years has really made me tired of the sawks massholes and Philly is just waiting to be the same.
i read it my friend, ive been to boston several times, id say about more than 15% of it is nice. Boston has its ups and downs just as any other big city does, my point is: Dont ever compare philly to boston. If philly had even 15% of acceptable areas that would be a vast improvement, there is nothing reedeming about philly.
Don't even think about walking outside?! Lets not get carried away Cap... I lived on Tremont Street in Roxbury for a couple of years in the early 90's... I walked those streets late at night alone many many times and never had any trouble. I'm not saying it's a beautiful place but it's certainly not the war zone you're making it out to be.
That wasn't why I said you don't read. I had explicitly said that every city had shitty areas. I get that. NYC has Harlem. Boston has Dorchester. But I was talking about the rest of the city. Boston has several very nice areas concentrated downtown and in Cambridge or Brookline. The rest of Metro Boston is dirty, though. My guess is you didn't really get to see much of the city during your visits. Did you go to Brighton/Allston? Somerville? Southie? Hyde Park? East Boston? Mattapan? Those neighborhoods - along with Roxbury, Dorchester, and Roslindale - make up the bulk of Metro Boston. And they're not what I'd call "beautiful." Early nineties? Why don't you come back and visit and try walking down that street again?
As a Dodger fan I'm rooting hard for the Phillies, even though they just beat my team again in the NLCS and pissed me off. For one thing I'm a National League fan and I just plain hate the Yankees. I'm also real sick of hearing how inferior the NL is from hard-on shills like Michael Kay because fat fuck Brad Penny and a couple other has-beens couldn't make it in the AL. Last time I looked the Phillies were defending World Series champs and the NL has won two of the last three times.
To me, this is respectable. You want the NL to win. If the Yankees aren't in the World Series, and neither are the Mets, I want the AL to win, unless it's the Red Sox.
The only times I've ever rooted for the AL was 1989 and 2002 when the Giants were the NL team, for the same reason.
The only non-Mets, non-Red Sox, World Series I can remember rooting for the NL was when Cincinnati swept Oakland. I completely despised Oakland as a kid and that sweep was sweet. Thinking about now, I may have rooted against Toronto also, but I can't remember for sure. Hell, I can't even remember who they played.
They played the Braves in 1992 and the Phillies in 1993. In 1996 I was living in Maryland and had spent a few years traveling around the south, so I hated the Braves more than the Yankees at that point, also because the Yankees hadn't been in everyone's face for a while and the Braves had. Down south everyone hated New York, hated Ewing and the Knicks and laughed at the Jets who were 0-8 around that time, so I was kind of rooting for New York if not the Yankees themselves. Torre and his brother were a nice story at that time and he's Italian so I was kind of pulling for him over that wife-beater Cox.
I'm a mets fan, but I have family that are yankee fans.... I hate philly so much more. Can not stand philly and boston... Easy for me, Go Yanks.
its about the city you live in. for the city of Philadelphia, who I hate with a passion to win back to back years all the while doing it to my city and both NY sports teams it cannot happen. For any new yorker to root for Philadelphia is a crime. Fuck the NY thats in it - get past it - its about where they play.
I go National League, unless it's the Phils or Braves. And if it IS the Phils or Braves, I only pull for them when they play the Yankees.
my family are Yankee fans, and they don't root for the Mets, so I certainly don't feel any familial regards for the Yankees.
They give me crap about liking the Mets all the time, but I'd rather see anybody else, aside from Philly or Boston, winning World Series. Rooted for TB against Philly last year... Colorado against Boston... I'd rather a team from NY win, then any team in my team's division, or Boston.
