It has to be a scapegoat? They couldn't just be far apart from each other when it came to coaching the DLine?

Yeah me too. The only thing Locklin did wrong was have Kris Jenkins get injured. The Jets talent on the defensive line is really kind of low right now. Like journeyman low with only Shaun Ellis above that level and he's only really above the level if he has help alongside him.

Locklin was a very interesting hire anyways. I was behind it because Locklin got a lot out of mediocre talent at Fresno State.

He was a very creative coach, using a lot of guys all over the place...but Fresno's defense was never really successful.

Actually, Fresno's defense improved when Locklin left and that says a lot.

I'm going to make a ToddisGod-esque prediction and say that Chuck Smith replaces Locklin as D-line coach this season.

He used to be a D-lineman for the Falcons and runs a football clinic in Atlanta. The Jets brought him in late in the offseason as a defensive advisor specializing in the defensive line and pass rush.

I remember someone in the press asking Rex about him and Rex couldn't say enough about Chuck, said he should be a coach in the NFL and said he'd love to give him a job. That was at or around the beginning of the season.

BTW. I guess I was wrong about Smith anyway, Jetsblog is saying Jeff Weeks is picking up Dline duties in his place.

Rex Ryan: Hey Kerry, can I see you in my office?

Kerry Locklin: Sure coach, I just need to finish a few things up.

Rex Ryan: This will only take a few minutes, it's important.

Kerry Lockin: Alright, sure. What's on your mind coach?

Rex Ryan: Well, I need to know what the deal is Kerry. We're not getting any pressure on the quarterback. Where's the problem?

    Kerry Locklin: Are you serious?

Rex Ryan: Hell yeah I'm serious, I can't stand to see my Defense play like this. This is my team... This is our team... We need to light a fire under their asses. *tear*

Kerry Locklin: Look Rex, this aint Morehead state. We just don't have it.... What I mean to say is, we just lost our best D lineman. It's hurting.

Rex Ryan: Well it's hurting me to see my guys, our guys with so much potential out there; lost, they're being dominated.

Kerry Locklin: Potential? *laughs* Come on coach, we're scrambling to put together an NFL calibur Defensive Line... These guys SUCK.

Rex Ryan: Get... the fuck... OUT!!! (In his best Jeremy Piven impression)

I really feel like that's exactly the way it went.
