I was just curious when the last time the Jets had this big of a home game (Regular Season)? I was thinking the end of the 02 season Vs Farve & the Packers when the Jets blew them away & won the AFC East. It's been a long time since the Jets had a home game this big, it's their 1st apperance on NBC Football Night in America & it's the last game ever at The Meadowlands! If the Jets win it's going to be a memorable night in Jets History & I hope it's insanely loud!!! Can't wait!
home against the raiders in 2006 was a win and in game, but it wasn't anything like the green bay game. Everyone knew the Jets would win the game, and we were going to play the pats in round 1 and everyone prob thought we were gunna lose which we did, so that last game didn't have the best feel to it. It was still great though
I wish I could be there! I don't get paid until Thursday and Christmas kicked my ass this year. Damnit!
I'd say 2006 and 2002 were both about the same. In 06 we knew the Raiders were garbage, in 02 Green Bay was playing for a bye, but we had the juice in both instances.
agreed the last time we had this kind of oppurtunity was 02, yes 06 was a win and in situation but everybody pretty much thought we were a paper tiger that year, and didnt really have a great oppurtunity to do anything in the postseason. 02 we were the hottest team in the NFL and nobody wanted to play us. We as a fan base were fired up beyond belief and nothing could have stopped us from destroying Green Bay that year. This year is similar in that our team has the ability to put it all together and beat anybody in the NFL. If we catch fire.... We could be the surprise of the postseason this year. A team with an *elite* defense and the best running game in the NFL will not go easy and without a fight. elite is obviously in ** because they would have to step up and finish games which they couldnt do in the reg. season to date. Also its nearly impossible to beat the same team in back to back weeks as we would have to do to surpass the wildcard round of the playoffs.
Nice to see you can appreciate the negativity of others as well, champ. That was supposed to be our Atlanta airport game, too. :jets:
i went to the game vs GB in 1981 at shea, sack exchange kicked ass that frigid day!!! first PO year since the 60s. champagne corks were poppin too even up in the deep mezz.
Actually it wasn't a negative reply. I was just pointing out that game was as big if not bigger than this game. That was a must win game, against a hurting team with its star players in question. Very similar to this one. The Jets didnt win obviously but man were they talking it up prior.
Are you sure? I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have clinched already. With a win against atlanta and a loss to Cinci, we would lose the tiebreakers to Baltimore and Denver if they finish 9-7. Maybe Pittsburgh too, I'm not sure. And with Baltimore and Denver playing Oak and KC, they will both probably be 9-7. So it's probably going to turn out that the Atlanta game was completely meaningless, we would have needed to win this week either way.
That Packers game in 2002 only became a "Win and Your In" scenario 5 minutes into the game. I was there, too. Ahhhh... memories.
Same here.... Just the crowd reaction after the Vinitieri kick and from that point on it seemed like it was destuction of the Packers...
With all thats happened this year fom Jan till now, plus all that you have mentioned, this will be a night thats remembered for a long time. That would make all the tortures of this year worthwhile, no matter what happens in the playoffs!!
This is completely not true. The way it worked out, the Atlanta game is actually the meaningless one because it was a NON-CONFERENCE game. We NEED to win this game against the bengals because it is a conference game and will make our conference record 7-5, which is a must for us clinching a playoff spot.
Of all of the strange things that have happened the last couple of weeks, that to me is the strangest - not only did that loss not eliminate the Jets, as everyone (including Rex) thought it would, but it turned out that winning that game looks like it would have ended up helping the Jets exactly zero. Very strange turn of events.
