it is a great move....IF....Snyder relinquished power to Shanahan regarding personnel decisions. My assumption is that he DID....because i can't see Shanahan taking the job otherwise.
I think Snyder was ready to kick his own ass after all of these years. He HAD to do a move like this. NFC East is going to be the best division in football for the next several seasons
It is going to interesting to watch Danny Boy and Shanahan interact. I may just keep my subscription to the Washington Post to see the fireworks in print.
Shanahan's last 6 seasons in Denver: 2002: 9-7 2003: 10-7 2004: 10-7 2005: 14-4 (Lost AFC Title Game) 2006: 9-7 2007: 7-9 2008: 8-8 Nothing too great, especially the last 3 years, but it shows he can at least get the Skins to the playoffs. Something they rarely do lately.
Shanahan as HC K. Shanahan as OC (look at what he's done with Schaub as a QB coach) Zimmer as DC From a coaching stand-point that team kicks ass!
VERY overrated coach. I thought w/ Bruce Allen running the show maybe he had a shot but apparently Mike has all the power and that's BAD news for the Skins. They got a big name coach for big bucks but the production will not follow.
He is not an overrated coach, his problem in Denver started when he was given full control of the team as HC/GM. When are these coaches going to realize that the work load involved in running a team is just too much for one guy? If he sticks to just coaching he will have success, if he does not I agree he will not be successful. His son is also going to join him as the OC so that should help with the offense.
Shanahan won ONE playoff game w/o Elway in 10 seasons in Denver. I agree he'd be much better if he didn't have total control but he does. He always runs his own offense, it doesn't matter if his son is there or not. By the way, Houston was 12th in point score the year before Kyle join them and they finished 17th and 10th the last 2 years.
Why is it a great move for the skins? Shanahan hadn't won a playoff game in 11 years at Denver, he won the same number of games as Washington did in '08 and 2 less than Washington did in '07..sounds like the same old garbage to me.
I saw that stat on ESPN this morning. I didn't realize the dropoff without Elway, but they also pointed out that they didn't even win with Elway until Shanahan built up the running game, so maybe he gets some credit for that. I think its a step in the right direction for them. Is he the cure for all that ails the Skins? Probably not, but I think he makes them competitive at least. I'm interested to see what happens with Campbell now. There's a small part of me that thinks he could be serviceable in the right situation. Who knows.
Actually he did win a playoff game, in 2005, beat the Pats. Not that it makes it a whole lot better, but he did win one.
