not a big shotty fan but if he leaves after this year, sanchez will be learning a new system again. i almost wouldn't mind if he stuck around one more season.
If we win this year he can stay here until I die for all I care- If he calls a shit game on Sunday, that would be a different story. Mark was throwing the ball great, I was hoping for at least a couple more passes on those 3rd and longs. He knows better then I so I'll hold judgement.
For the sake of Sanchez development I would like to see him around for next year and the year after if we make a deep playoff run next year. There is a reason guys like David Carr (shell shock) and Jason Campbell (too many systems) havent worked out, we seem to have survived David Carr syndrome, and I really want to avoid Jason Campbell syndrome as well. Campbell has been through 7 systems dating back to his freshman year of college, its no wonder he has had only moderate success in the NFL, and giving Sanchez the same OC for the first 2-3 years would be more than ideal in helping him to develop into the best he can be, and on top of that, doing as fast as possible.
It's best for Sanchez if Shotty stays...and I think the light bulb has gone on finally for how he can maximize Mark's current strengths without hindering the offense. I'll be happy for him to stay on board if he continues to call games based on our players' strengths like he has been. I hope we keep Calahan too. The o-line seems to really understand what they need to do to let Mark succeed lately too.
Although I haven't been on the fire Schotty bandwagon - I wouldn't be sad to see him go either. However, I have stated the same in the past. I agree with the above statement...
the last month has been a different schotty. if this new schotty is permanent. Fine, stay. I welcome you. If the old schotty comes back, its time to go.
I've been on the fire Schotty band wagon big time. I'll eat crow for the guy who has called the last couple of games. If that is the Schotty who stays, I want him to stay.
I'm pretty sure that the "Color Code" that Rex Ryan installed wasn't just for Mark Sanchez... Schotty has called some nice games over the past couple of weeks. I love all of the high percentage pass plays, misdirection runs, and play-action boots. I absolutely hate the look-off screen plays...those have pick 6 written all over them.
Carr is the best example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Who remembers the commercial several years ago with Carr in formation all by himself and there were 7 defensive fronts? One of the best things the Jets did was to build the line before getting the franchise QB.
Excellent point and why I wouldn't want to be Matthew Stafford right now. A mediocre QB with a strong line will outplay a great QB with a poor line all season long. To be fair on a Schotty switch, if he left for any reason, Callahan most likely steps in to minimize the change.
He is progressing pretty well every year. I would like him to stay here for atleast 2 more years to help Sanchez's progress. When in year 4, Sanchez wouldn't need much of the OC to progress IMO. But if Schotty is around, he can tear this league up. He needs a good QB to do that. Favre did a decent job for the first 11 wks, and that was his first yr in the system without any mini camp. We finger point too much at Schotty. He makes a few bad calls, but who doesn't?
Its cool. We are on the same page  QB-Friendly pass plays. Its what they were using in September. With the running game being so strong that's all Sanchez needs to do. He throws a pretty ball, and he's never been that accurate.
This. Unless we can replace him with someone in-house, this post pretty much explains it all. Good job sir.
This is major reason why your QB will probably get picked multiple times if he ends up throwing the ball against the Chargers. Inexperience and the man coaching him will be the Jets' downfall come Sunday. Remember 2005, Schotty was Brees' QB coach. The Jets kicked the Chargers' butt in that wildcard game, but you had Penny and stud center Mawae. I'd take Chad over Sanchez any time of the day. IMHO, the Charger's D will shut down your running game. They were able to do that against CJ of the Titans. It all comes down to your passing game, which will be your team's Waterloo.
I liked how Schotty abandoned the Brad Smith stuff early in the game. That to me, was that he is finally learning, adjusting, instead of just going with the stupid shit that doesn't work.
