Just returned from Indy...very down, but optimistic about young QB, TE, our coach and a defense that's 2 or 3 players away from stopping everybody, including Peyton Manning. However, among the things that stood out for me during the title game was the underrated and clutch performance of #89, Jerricho Cotchery. He made difficult catch after clutch catch in the most dire situations, and kept our offense going in the 1st half with huge 3rd down conversions on fingertip and sideline grabs. And he's been doing it all year and even last year. (Remember the plays he made up in NE last year on some of Favre's heaves?) He's a huge asset for a young QB to have. Would love to see the Jets offense take off next year and get Cotch some Pro Bowl numbers.
Much respect for J-CO. Guy has amazing hands and comes up with the big play whenenver we need it. J-Co 4 Prez 2012!
J-Co is my favorite Jet. Has anyone noticed that about 80% of his completions over the last 6 weeks have been on the sideline?
Where would you expect him to go if he was trying to protect his young QB? He's been standing in places, waiting for the ball, where if he didn't catch it nobody would. That's a pro at work.
J Co is the best! Love him and want him to retire a Jet. A super good guy off the field as well. Stand-up guy.
I hope he catches 80-100 balls next year. He's the perfect #2, steady hands and can make things happen with the ball in his hands. Braylon is a big play guy. Perfect set of receivers along with Keller patrolling the middle of the field causing mismatches. All we need is a slot receiver and we're set for the next decade
I wish there were more threads like this. I see all kinds of comparisons between Wayne Chrebet and Woodhead, Wayne Chrebet and Leonhard, mostly because they are white. I would compare Chrebet with Jerricho Cotchery. They both have a ton of heart, both have hands made of glue, and both had the physical awareness of their own body to get the first down and keep the chains moving. Cotchery is automatic. That one catch on the sideline, I didn't need to see the review to know he was in. I can't believe that Herm wouldn't let this guy play.
From day one he has been one of my favorite Jets. He has excelled at everything they've asked him to do. Started off on special teams, was our best gunner. Due to injury we had him return kickoffs...returned one for TD Chrebet gets hurt, put him the slot, he does well Next, he's a starter, excels some more. Face it guys, he has been our #1 WR the last three years. Coles got a ton more targets and they finished with equal numbers. The guy runs great routes, has great hands and is good after the catch. The only thing he is not is a deep threat. And he keeps his mouth shut and does his job. Heard a stat that over the last 4 yrs with x amount of catches he has the 2nd least amount of drops. This year he had ZERO drops. I think that is the 2nd year he has done that. You may say he is not a true #1 but I can't name a #2 (other than Boldin) that is better than him. Great job J-Co!!!
I would take him over Boldin, Boldin is injured a lot, and Cotchery was the #1 Receiver in the NFL in terms of yardage before his mid season injury. This guy is pure class, and a hell of a receiver.
Cotchery is the man, and I definitely agree with the chrebet reference, he fights for every yard, badass.
Much props to Cotch. He's been our most consistent and probably most underrated player on O for a long time now. There's no reason why any Jets fan should have anything but love for the guy.
the comparison also extends to work ethic and the typical "blue collar" kind of player.... well in my mind anyway. cotch is clutch.
