#1...Has to be a Pass Rusher. Actually 2 would be really nice, but Hey....I can dream a little. Some may say CB, but a good pass rush makes for better CB play. Whether thru trade, cuts or draft...Pass Rusher needed. Auburn has a playmaker...#52 Antonio Coleman ...OLB. I believe he led the S.E.C. in sacks. Jets need a speed rusher. Also an upgrade at DE needed. CB depth is off-course also necessary, but again.....A good pass-rush makes good CB's great, & bad CB's adequate....:jets:
1 competent pass rusher and a decent corner is all this defense really needs. I can also see Lowery becoming a good corner opposite Revis but if theres a proven corner on the market that can get the job done I would take him in a heartbeat.
I'm not so sure we'll be able to carry 4 running backs. I can see us signing someone if one of the three go down however.
A corner that can play opposite Revis. Lowery is too inconsistent Need draft a future replacement for Ellis on the D-Line, he is no spring chicken. Hopefully this depth can rush the QB, so we can get pressure without having to Blitz. Similarly, I think Faneca and woody are also getting up there, we could use some depth behind them that could replace them in the near future. The Jets also have a bunch of wide outs that are good at special teams or running the Wildcat, but are not necesarily good at being wrs. We need a real third/slot receiver
For me in order: 1 - Cornerback 2 - good, young O-line depth (draft pick) 3 - D-line (a pass rusher or immovable DE)
I really like Lowery and think he has shown some real promise as a solid #2,3. Sure he's been burnt a few times this year, but he's a young cb playing on the same field(half the season opposite) Revis. Alot of teams took extra shots at him because of this. I say groom him under Revis and pick up a long term replacement for Ellis w/ 29. And of course try to shop Rhodes.
We are already carrying 5... TJ LW SG Danny Wood-Cock Chauncy Washington We NEED a pass rusher. Lowery needs to train hard in the off season and I think Strickland is serviceable if he can manage to stay healthy (big if). An upgraded corner is preferred for #2. Depth at OL & DL
Pass Rusher Stout DE (to start opposite of and eventually replace Ellis) CB depth of the o-line needs to begin now too.
We definitely need somd depth in the secondary as well as a solid pass rusher. Could use a WR too but I don't see a WR being a priority. We may also be able to develop Clowny more.
How about Adalius Thomas as a potential OLB this offseason? I mean obviously he had his best years under Rex, we have a hole to fill at OLB, and he is very obviously going to be cut from the Patriots.
I think some people tend to think about this kind of question and focus too much on the starters. The backups you tend to see the most of over your typical game include the third wideout, your second RB. But they definitely include your third and even fourth cb. The Jets D is pushed too far to the limit when you see Lowery and Coleman on the field too much, particularly against those teams that have diverse options at receiver. I am not sure I would use a first round pick, but help at secondary is what this team needs most. I like Strickland but he sure was hurt a lot last year. Lito is pretty much done - there's a reason a well run team like Philly let him go. Lowery may develop, but he's maybe a solid backup right now. Coleman I would love to cut. Yeah, an upgrade at CB tops my list.
Unless we draft a DE/OLB high, I think our pass rusher is coming from within the organization. I expect a double digit sack season from Calvin Pace next year. I think our biggest need is a big, starting caliber, young DE. Oghobaase 2010. Oh, and depth...whereever we can get it...including LB, since it's such a key position.
I wouldn't mind a better backup for Jenkins, depth on the OL, and a CB that can play opposite of Revis. I like Lowery but he seems better as a nickle/dime back.
Immediate need: 1. Effective Pass rusher(s) 2. #2 CB 3. Effective slot receiver Replacements: 1. NT 2. OL(s) 3. FB
A lot of people keep mentioning a replacement for Ellis. I love Ellis, and he played very well this year, but I agree that a future replacement is needed soon. I think the good news he might already be on the team. DeVito for sure has shown he can play football. There is also another kid on the team that has impressed me. #79 Pitoitua. 6?9? 300 # He had a great camp. Total animal, with a big motor. Looked very raw, but very talented. The Jets didn?t put him on the practice squad, but kept him on the roster. Didn?t want to have him claimed. He was active some when Pace was suspended, and I thought he played well. Once Pace came back he was mostly inactive. Think this kid could have a break out year next season. Have to think Rex likes him to keep an unknown on the roster
jets' needs-- pass rush, pass rush, pass rush--the rest is gravy. Without a pass rush next year, Brady or Manning will advance again and jets will be watching super bowl. Bryan Thomas never gets to the QB off the edge; Pace only once in a while.
Pass Rusher. One of our first two picks needs to be a OLB. The other a stout DE who can apply pressure but hold the line as well. I think OL can hold off another year.
