They are running behing the same oline, you are right. It is also night and day watching them run. Jones runs like a p**sy and Green runs with force. Also, where in my post did I say the Jones was overrated? I think you made this one up. Emmit Smith? Are you serious. He is on a different level than Thomas Jones. He actually showed up through the playoffs and won several superbowls. Besides this, there is no reason to bring up Emmit Smith in comparison to Thomas Jones. On a side note, when Greene got hurt in the AFC Championship, Emmit Smith would have stepped up back in the day and made a statement. POOR COMPARISON
Ah, the old "let's take away his solid runs" argument. Hey, even Chris Johnson, with his fantastically consistent season, had two games account for more than 400 yards of his total. Thomas Jones isn't overrated because you'd be hard pressed to find anyone out there among the general NFL fan population who considers him an elite back. And yet, he's had the numbers of one.
Steven Jackson was hurt for most of this year, and missed at least one game I can think of, and behind a worse O-line ran for more yards.
Also, Don't misinterpret what I wrote as simply writing him off, but we both saw the same thing, he's declining, and declining rapidly. Even without that argument, His performance in the last 3 weeks, and the 3 playoff weeks screams decline. Edit: And as I've mentioned before, I LOVE TJ as much as the next person, but I understand why this was done. They have young guys all over the place they need to extend, and keeping TJ at 6 mil, in a reduced role, on the decline, is not worth it.
I'd say that Thomas Jones is rated right where he needs to be. He's a stat compiler and a workhorse who doesn't fumble, is a good blocker out of the backfield and has up until the end of the 2009 season done well to avoid injury. I don't hate the guy, but it's a smart logistical move by the Jets to cut ties with him now and go young. He performed well as a Jet, even if his running style is not dynamic or totally consistent in the results. Sometimes I would expect him to break a nice run and instead he'd do that stupid hop cut and get caught in the backfield. Other times I expected him to go down for a short loss and he'd make a nice cutback and squirt through a hole and score a TD. TJ is what he is, and the reason he's a FA is because of his age and the number of carries he's had in the past 6 years. It's a gamble, but one the Jets have good odds for.
tj was so underrated throughout the season (and outright disrespected by a few of the same people who are vehemently defending him now), that his value to this team has, in fact, become overrated happens all the time
I don't really see anyone changing their tune from the way they felt about TJ at the beginning of the season.
This right here. Like I said, I don't see how anyone can consider him overrated when he's not rated very high by the majority of the NFL fanbase. The OP is acting like anyone could have been plugged in there, but his workhorse tendencies have served us well for 3 years now.
And that answers what? I don't see anything in that thread supporting your statement in regards to this one.
It amazes me how after such a productive year for the Jets, people still continue to bash TJ. It is absolutely silly. I watched all of the games this year and I truly believe that he will be missed next season if we cannot bring him back.
Ive always been a big TJ supporter. He is good but its like he is the worst RB I have ever seen at the same time.
for example ... underrating overrating and there were plenty more threads like the one i posted with people getting on tj's case
I don't see how he was underrating or overrating him. In the first one, he stated that Greene and Leon were our future. Look at the current situation. Sure looks like he was onto something. In the second one, he pretty much states the obvious, although I don't agree that TJ is underrated. Should I look up your posts and see how many times you have flip-flopped during the season?
saying we should trade tj for a late-round pick mid-season is underrating him. also saying hes "perfect" for our line is overrating him (just an example 624, no offense) you can look up whatever you want to, all i remember saying is that we were introducing some zone blocking schemes this year and it takes a while for the o-line to hit their stride ... but i knew that it was more about the line than it was about tj
